LEGO Set Leaks Give Hints To ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ and ‘The Mandalorian’

While leaks for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker have been at a minimum, it’s that time of year when the sheer volume of upcoming merchandise makes these potential leaks inevitable. A slew of photos of some upcoming LEGO sets from The Rise of Skywalker and The Mandalorian for the Force Friday sales event in October have recently been posted online, and while there’s not anything super revealing, we can glean a little bit of information and fuel for our speculation about the two upcoming Star Wars productions.

You can check out the images on Imgur and Stonewars, but we’ll briefly go over each of the sets here and discuss some of the revelations and implications of each one.

First up, we have the Pasaana Speeder Chase (75250) set. The image on the box depicts Rey and BB-8 (it’s great to see them together again!) on a desert skiff trying to outrun the pursuing First Order troops. This appears to be part of the desert speeder chase scene that we first saw in the movie’s teaser trailer, and with this set, we can learn a couple of things. The set includes two vehicles, the one Rey and BB-8 are in and a brand new First Order vehicle called the “Treadspeeder” which is similar in design to other speeders in Star Wars, but with a single tank tread instead of a repulsor system to keep it afloat.

We also see a First Order Jet Trooper. Due to the “jump troopers” from the Battlefront games, there has been some debate on what this new trooper would be called. But clearly now, they are going with “Jet Trooper”, and honestly it makes more since given the extended flight capability of this particular trooper that we’ve already seen in the movie’s teaser.

Next up, we have a familiar sight with another iteration of the Millennium Falcon (75257). This one is the version of the freighter as it appears in The Rise of Skywalker, complete with the classic looking circular dish and a familiar bunch of legacy characters in Lando, Chewie, C-3PO, and R2-D2. Finn also joins the party, as well as a new alien figure whose name and species are unknown at the moment.

The third set is also a familiar sight. The iconic shape of the Resistance Y-Wing Starfighter (75249) is instantly both striking and nostaglia inducing. However, closer examination of the set reveals that although Poe Dameron in his new roguish outfit appears in the set, Keri Russell’s character, Zorri Bliss, is the one actually piloting the craft. This little detail is interesting for its implications regarding Bliss’ involvement in the movie’s story. Is she working with Poe and the Resistance or is she making away with the starfighter after having stolen it from them? Also included in this set are the new droid, D-O, an astromech droid, and a new First Order snowtrooper variant that I will for now be calling the “Krennic Trooper” due to his exquisite cape game.

The fourth image reveals Snap Wexley in a Resistance A-Wing Starfighter (75248). This set is pretty basic, but it is interesting for a couple of reasons. For one, we haven’t seen Snap in an A-Wing yet, as he is typically an X-Wing pilot in Black Squadron. In both The Force Awakens and the Poe Dameron comic series, the X-Wing is certainly his starfighter of choice. So has Snap decided to shake things up a little bit by switching to the A-Wing or is he using the ship out of necessity for reasons that will be revealed in the movie itself?

The other interesting aspect of this one is the inclusion of its second minifigure, Lieutenant Connix. My initial thought is that it is truly great to see Carrie Fisher’s daughter, Billie Lourd, getting her own minifigure for TROS. But the more I think about her being in the set, the more I get excited about the reasons for her inclusion. Are she and Snap working together in the movie? Are they in a relationship? We’ll have to wait until December to find out.

As a fan of the bad guys in Star Wars, I’m probably the most excited about the next set, Kylo Ren’s Shuttle (75256). We got a similar set for The Force Awakens, but this one seems to have improved upon the design of the first one with what appears to be articulation in the wings that will allow them to both fold up and extend. This set is most exciting to me though for the minifigures it contains. Obviously, we get a Kylo Ren figure, but the set also includes a Stormtrooper, General Pryde, a Sith Trooper, and two Knights of Ren.

The leaked images also showcase a new Yoda (75255) build that looks pretty cool, as well as the Death Star Cannon (75246) with Obi-Wan Kenobi from A New Hope, but the last one I want to focus on is the AT-ST Raider (75254) set from the upcoming Disney Plus series, The Mandalorian. This is a very cool looking set with a stylized and heavily modified version of an Imperial AT-ST walker. The set includes four minifigures, one of course being Pedro Pascal’s “Mandalorian” while Gina Carano’s “Cara Dune” and a couple of humanoid aliens fill out the roster. The aliens look like Weequays but it’s hard to tell at this point. This set’s design gets me really excited for the sort of things that we’ll be seeing in the series later this year.

What do you think of the new LEGO sets? Is there anything you noticed that I didn’t mention? Share your thoughts in the comments below, and we’ll keep you updated on all things Star Wars in the days ahead as we continue to draw closer to the release of The Mandalorian and The Rise of Skywalker.
