Warwick Davis’s Role In Solo: A Star Wars Story Revealed

Actor Warwick Davis’ role in Solo: A Star Wars Story may have possibly been revealed on social media, and it’s probably not who you’d expect! (Minor spoilers ahead!)

When Solo: A Star Wars Story open its theaters doors to the public on May 25th, you might just see a familiar face. Of course, this tiny detail could be easier to miss than others, and the cast list for the film provides a case of exactly that. Warwick Davis, who is best known for his role as Wicket in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, looks to have returned to a role he played a long time ago in a Galaxy Far, Far Away.

No he’s not playing the famous Wicket this time, or even any of his recent characters from The Force AwakensRogue One, or The Last Jedi. Instead, he’s reprising the role of one of four characters he portrayed in The Phantom Menace nearly 20 years ago, as revealed by the cast list (which is likely not the full list, just so we’re clear) below:

And there you have it: Weazel, one of the guys watching the big podracing event on Tatooine, decades before the events of Solo, has returned.

As it turns out, one of the TV spots that was released a few weeks ago featured a quick shot of Warwick Davis as this character, but he has much longer hair in Solo than he did decades ago in The Phantom Menace:

So there’s another nail in the “Disney are ignoring the Prequels” coffin: that one odd guy who was jeering Anakin Skywalker at the Boonta Eve Classic later shot at the future father of his grandson, and now he’s arguably more important to the overall story of Star Wars than he was when he was just a background character in one of the Prequel Trilogy. It should be really interesting to see how big or how little Weazel’s role is in the movie based on how high he’s billed, but for now, it’s neat connective tissue.
