UPDATE: RUMOR: The Last Jedi 4K Blu-ray Collectible Steelbook Revealed to Include Over TWO Hours of Bonus Footage
A leaked promo image of Star Wars: The Last Jedi‘s Blu-ray Collectible Steelbook packaging via both Best Buy and Target appears to have leaked online. There is no way to confirm if this is real but it looks accurate.
Once again this has not been confirmed but if this is fabricated, whomever put this together put more passion and time into it than we’d likely see in the real ads. Take it with a grain of Crait salt though, as good as this looks.
The post says:
“Includes over two hours of bonus footage, including deleted scenes & more.”
We checked with Best Buy’s site which does have a pre-order page (here) set up for a Blu-ray Steelbook of The Last Jedi, using the film’s poster official theatrical poster as a placeholder.
There is no release date attached to the image, however as previously reported a rumored home video release date of March 27th has been floating around, first discovered on The Digital Habits.
UPDATE!
Included in the post is an image of Target’s exclusive package, which includes a gallery book of the movie. We checked with Target and there is a description confirming this book on their pre-sale page:
“40-page booklet includes an inside, behind-the-scenes look at the making of Star Wars: The Last Jedi with exclusive images, facts and personal insights from the filmmakers.”

Just be sure to not make tooo many copies. There is a large group of people who are NOT buying it (including myself) – so please be so kind and save our planetary resources/materials for something else.
U can always print another batch if all the copies are sold out, instead of letting the disc rot somewhere in stores and then be sold with 75% discount and still rot there.
I did not bought TFA DVD for about 2Eur on sale, dont know where all the DVDs ended.
Not sure that message will reach Disney here.
They need to wish upon a star first.
better start an online petition then 🙂
The fact that he of all people responded to your post (within 4 minutes… no less) means they hear you loud and clear.
Hmmm, noticed that you did?
haha
I have no desire to own the movie either. I have only watched it once and that was one time too many!!
I agree. I will not be purchasing the Sequel Trilogy on DVD/Blu-Ray. In fact, I don’t think I have any interest at all in even seeing Episode IX. And the only interest I have in the Han Solo movie, is to see how much of a train wreck it might be.
I disagree. I was really disappointed by the movie. I’ve only seen it once. But I ‘will’ give it a second chance on BluRay. Glutton for punishment I suppose.
wait it out for this version…

It’ll be riffed, guaranteed. They’ve done all of the other flms including TFA and R1.

I would never believe before seeing this movie that it won’t be part of my bluray collection. I just don’t have any desire to see it again……and I love Rey……
Surely this is not 4K, Bluray i can understand but i doubt Disney would start off their Star Wars 4K discs by releasing episode 8. Surely they will wait until after episode 9 and release a 4K box set
That’s what the packaging and promo says on the top image. Would be interesting to see if they went ahead with that. You’re right that it would an unexpected move on their part, but I’d love to watch it in 4K in my home theater asap personally. 🙂
Good point, but don’t think Disney minds too much, they know selling the OT in 4K is what’s going to sell those box sets so as long as they keep the classics in the vault until the episode 1-9 4K box set then it does not hurt them to make extra profit off the handful of people who want the immediacy of episode 8 in 4K
This will be the first Star Wars movie to be released in 4K correct?
That’s….exciting?
Question:
Does the Resistance purchase their weaponry from the arms dealers on the Casino Planet?
From what the movie specifically stated, some of it, yes.
So when Finn and Rose “hurt those guys,” they also inadvertently hurt their own cause too.
you cannot apply logic to anything in this shitfest, or your head will explode
Even in canon going back to RotJ, the A-Wing was manufactured by Kuat Engineering Systems, a subsidiary of Kuat Drive Yards, which made the Star Destroyers and most Imperial hardware. They’ve been connected for a long time.
But Kuat Engineering Systems would have been a manufacturer, not a distributor or retailer or private arms dealer from which the Rebels would have purchased it. So I would argue that the connection was tangential.

I wasn’t a fan of the art on the previous steelbooks, so I passed on them. But this one looks nice. Though if I did have the other steelbooks, this one being a different art style would bug the crap out of me. If that is indeed the final box art.
Yeah irks me that the movie doesn’t match the other movies either.
Will there be a director’s commentary included?
Asking for a friend.

Or even better… how about a documentary on the innerworkings of spinning mass amounts of negative audience reactions to a disappointing franchise sequel into shameful social justice warrior finger-pointing and propaganda?
Yes…
Part IV – Avoid being racist, sexist, and/or misogynist; a guide to watching the film correctly
I don’t even wanna get into that, because unfortunately there are racists, sexists, and misogynists saying stupid shit, and they’re not helping.
I don’t really think that’s the case in most instances. Rather, I think basic understanding of what racism, sexism, and misogyny actually is is lacking.
And frankly, I don’t really think sexism is that big of a deal. Both sexes have been making sexist jokes and comments about the opposing sex since humanity began. Look at all of the commercials on television that depict the male father figure as a stupid doofus. No one seems to have a problem with those. Ultimately I think it’s time for the thin skinned to get over this stuff. There’s more important concerns.
Agree — one of the toughest jobs today is that of the stand-up comedian having to deal with the pussification of western culture.
Yep. It’s why many of them won’t even bother playing on college campuses anymore.
Check out Chapelle’s new Netflix special if you haven’t already — it’s very insightful.
Will do.
I’ve only heard name calling by those defending this pile of shit
I’ve only heard name calling by those defending this pile of shit
Mostly, yes.
Movie quality aside, why is representation of people who are not straight white men something to be afraid of and mocked? Perhaps you should ask yourself why a suggestion to have respect for your fellow humans is causing you an existential crisis.
If you’re encountering people who don’t like the movie for the reasons you described, discuss it with them.
If you’re taking to me, go back to your first line and put *movie quality* back into the limelight. I love Rey to death. I want her to come out of this trilogy like a champ — with hopefully more to come. I think it better serves any character of any color or race or gender or species (the is outer space we’re talking about) to be handled with nuance and care.
I don’t bite at straw-man bait, and anyone who doesn’t like the film simply because it sucks shouldn’t let someone else lecture them on the supposed *real* reason they don’t like it.
And anyone who complains about needlessly and exhaustingly having to defend their opinion against someone else that they witness using these straw man tactics shouldn’t be accused of made-up shit either.
It’s like if you told me you didn’t like the film “Ishtar”, and I accused you of not liking it because you hate short white men. That’d be a shitty and baseless assumption/accusation on my behalf (especially considering i know nothing about you). The reality would be that you probably didn’t like Ishtar because it’s simply an unwatchable film. Get it?
Also… you’re talking to a vegan / animals rights guy who absolutely *hates* the way this film tried to lecture people regarding that topic. It’s so poorly done I think it hurts the cause. Make sense?
I think that sums it up.
Peace
That’s a bizarre question to ask, given that no one has suggested that representation of people who are not straight white men is something to be afraid of and mocked. You’re essentially arguing against a point that no one is making.
In fact I’d argue that there’s nothing wrong with any of the actors. They’re doing the best with the material they’re given, but it’s the material that is the problem.
What people are mocking instead, is the poorly written screenplay, the boring characters without regard to their genitalia or melanin content, and the silly social justice politics.
You need to watch this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1jVU7JrnPMQ
Honestly buddy, you’re the one who seems to be obsessed with gender and race and sexuality. This kind of criticism of the movie just isn’t valid. At best, it’s dense and stupid. At worst, it’s racist, misogynist and pathetic. Grow up and learn to accept a world where there are only seven Star Wars movies about white guys who look like you.
Why would I seem to be obsessed with gender and race and sexuality, when I haven’t made any comments regarding those things?
That kind of criticism of the movie may or may not be valid. But one thing it most certainly is, is nonexistent. No one is making those criticisms. Literally no one.
I know it might be fashionable for the SJW ignorati to wag their fingers and recite the commonly parroted “you hate movies about people who don’t look like straight white males” hymnal or some deeply ignorant variation thereof. But its never applicable because no one is making those criticisms.
If you’re going to lecture, lecture about something that is actually being said, rather than commenting on something that you wish had been said, just so you can bark whatever it is you want to bark.
Again, watch the video I just posted above. It’s absolutely otherworldly to listen to a star from Rogue One go on about how women were never front and center in a Star Wars film before shooting lasers and fighting for freedom, over footage of Princess Leia from the very first 1977 film front and center firing lasers and fighting for freedom.
You don’t just need to grow up. You need to familiarize yourself with factual reality.
Yeah and the “factual reality” is that Princess Leia was the third lead in that 1977 film, which is a far cry from the main character. Stop trying to couch your pathetic insecurities in facts that aren’t facts.
There was no primary lead in the OT. It was an ensemble piece. Again, stop stupidly making things up, familiarize yourself with factual reality, and perhaps look up the definition of the word “fact.”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SZiWVWXLD_A
If you don’t think Luke Skywalker was the lead of the original trilogy, you’re a hopeless moron and there’s no point continuing to engage with you. Good luck growing that brain!
That wasn’t even the Rogue One Star’s argument anyway. He specifically said that women had never been front and center firing a laser and fighting for freedom before. Since that ignorant argument was easily discredited, you moved the goal post to another argument that no one is making. No on is arguing that Leia was or wasn’t the primary lead, because there is no primary lead in an ensemble piece.
You can either listen to the people who actually made the films and were in it, or you can believe the nonsense that you’re stupidly making up. Since you’re clearly an ineducable SJW, I’m sure it will be the latter. In any case, I’m sure you’ll continue to argue against comments that no one is making. Have fun with that.
And another thing:
How can you people keep using the discredited and inapplicable “can’t watch movies with people who don’t look like you” meme, when Star Wars is and always has been filled to the brim with multiple multiple alien races that don’t look like any human being on Earth?
Well played sir.

Yes.
Gimme gimme gimme.
Unless the additional 2 hours is a different movie, no thanks.
Right?
Oh, who am I kidding? I’m going to buy it still. Maybe on the 100th viewing I’ll like it.
Why do they keep discussing Bluray in the text of this article ??
4K is what it’s all about !
The image is all well and good, but on the official Bestbuy site 4K is also mentioned in the text at the top.
Blu-ray.com also has it showing as a 4K HDR release
Please be true, please be true !

3D?????
Probably not for the US 🙁 . The UK, France, and Germany already has pre-orders for 3D with the steelbook set. The disc will most likely play on all region players.
Looking forward to the inevitable fan edits. Wonder how many of them will retain that embarrassing Robot Chicken joke about Hux’s mother?
You know, I’m trying to think of what I would want to keep in a fan edit. The crystal foxes were kind of neat. But other than that, I can’t think of a single thing.
Come on now. I’d happily keep all of Ren and Rey’s convos through the mind bridge. Poe’s part. Most of Luke’s grumpy old man act. The opening scene with the bombers. A lot of Carries work was awesome.
I didn’t find the convos between Ren and Rey all the compelling, I honestly just don’t really care about the new characters. Poe’s part was mostly boring as well. I prefer not to remember Luke in the way he was handled in this movie, or Leia flying through space. Leia’s character was poorly written as well. I think an argument could be made for some of the space battles, but the bombing sequence looked silly to me. And the overall art design was boring, using 40 year old Ralph McQuarrie rejects from the OT. Meh.
Any of McQuarrie’s rejected concepts – and don’t forget Joe Johnston – are far better than the current crop of designers on these films. Those police speeders were terrible.
Have to say in fairness that the bombers were a good design ignoring all the complaints about bombs in zero G which are easily explained away.
It depends on the design. Designs are rejected for a reason.
The Prequels had many faults, but art design was not one of them.
Definitely the bombers and the much maligned hyperspace suicide. Mark did a great job with the material he was given and Carrie was more at ease with her role. I’m sure she would have been marvellous in the next one 🙁
I hope its 2 hours of more your mama jokes, maybe more Atlantic City footage, and absolutely must have more titty milking scenes, because you know…Star Wars
Yeah. Go back to watching Jar Jar Binks step in shit, electrocuting his tongue and getting farted on.
Duel of the Fates > The Last Jedi
Oh yeah, that battle were three guys fought about nothing. But the fight choreography was good so it was a great fight. Because I like lightsaber battles where there’s absolutely no emotion or purpose behind it.
Absolutely fair comparison, Last Jedi IS as bad as Phantom Menace, but which is worse?
Maybe we could just go by Box Office ticket sales, adjusted for inflation of course
Phantom menace = $ 806,406,800.00
Last Jedi (as of 1-11) = $ 580,274,600.00
Domestic
See why ticket sales are a poor indicator of quality
The Last Jedi is as bad as the Phantom Menace? Put down the crack pipe, son.
The Phantom Menace made a ton of money because it was the most hyped movie ever. The return to Star Wars after 16 years. Much like the hype of TFA made that movie a record breaker. Then Attack of the Clones sold about 60% of the tickets of Phantom. Empire sold 50% of A New Hope’s tickets. The second movie of each trilogy has seen a significant drop off from the massively hyped and massively successful first movie. This is nothing new.
Use real numbers if you’re going to compare, TPM domestic was $475M.
So what was your point exactly?
Recently re-watched it 3 times in the last month with my 2 4y daughters.
Your mentioned electrocuting tongue if my favorite Jar Jar joke. The Fart joke was a bit pointless, but well i see thet fart, vomit and foodwars jokes are somehow favorite jokes in US comedys.
But having Jar Jar as source of humor is far batter than making the main protagonists stupid just to make a joke (Hux, Luke)
That last sentence sums it up perfectly!
So you think that a retarded jackass alien speaking in broken English and bumbling around for 2 hours of the movie is better than a few jokes about Hux that last for a few seconds? Get real.
Leia makes fun of Tarkin’s “foul stench,” calls Han a “laserbrain” and a “stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerfherder,” and somehow making fun of Hux’s complexion is too much for you? Give me a break.
” alien speaking in broken English and bumbling around” are u speaking about master Yoda ?
“Leia makes fun of Tarkin’s “foul stench,”” If Tarkin would respond by smelling to himself saying something like “Impossible, i just took a bath this morning” -> then u can compare the levels of humor in those movies.
Even the Hans attempt to fool imperials at the detention area was nothing like Poes fooling with Hux as Imps did not bought it and immediately sent a squad there
Did you honestly just compare Jar Jar Binks to Yoda? Sorry. No one can take you seriously after that.
He surely ment Rose…
Rad as fuck.. can’t wait to own it
Looks pretty cool! Rian Johnson is a genius filmmaker!
But is he a stable genius? Or a perhaps a genius in a stable? A fathier stable?
Wacka wacka wacka
PS
Some advice — don’t go too overboard with the praise or else people might get suspicious. Gotta keep it cool in order to sustain the illusion.
but but… i gotta get paid
Riiiiggght!! You just keep telling yourself that.
And you keep telling yourself that your opinions are fact. Whatever helps you sleep at night.
And you keep telling yourself that your opinions are fact. Whatever helps you sleep at night.
I wasn’t aware I gave an opinion and stated it was fact. My personal opinion is that RJ is a reasonably good film maker. I liked Looper and I liked Brick. TLJ was disappointing but I didn’t hate it. However to call him a genius is way over the top! So wind your neck in!
oh, your the Bantha they all talk about here
Yea, Brilliance. Let’s make horrible goofy looking choice, copy the past, tweaked in in nonsensical ways, trash the OT characters, and…
Brilliance, absolutely.
It’s legit. I’m seeing FB ads for it already. Also, is grain of Crait salt going to be a thing now in the endless rumor mill?
I am sorry if I missed it, but what is the street date?
I believe the rumor is March 27.
Thank you.
Dear TLJ haters: Just when I thought the internet couldn’t get any uglier or more soul crushing, you went the extra mile to make sure that even a Star Wars fansite is now a depressing slog. It’s really awesome that you hate the movie so much that you’ll stop at nothing to make sure everyone else feels like crap too. Good work, you’re all real heroes.
But don’t mind me, just keep beating that dead horse. Eventually you’ll convince us all to burn our blu rays in a giant bonfire and erase Star Wars from existence. Then the world can truly be free of its scourge.
What are you talking about. No one is telling you to not like the movie. Like it all you want.
Sadly, this goes on with every franchise on the internet as I still remember how much people hated The Matrix Reloaded. Or how about the hate for Batman vs Superman? It probably would have been the same with ROTJ in 1983 with the Ewoks.
The great thing about social media is everyone gets an opinion. The bad thing about social media is everyone gets an opinion.
I’m with you on that. I think I’m going to stop coming here. It’s become the most popular fansite, and the more popular a site gets the more of the negative, asinine people show up.
I agree that there have been nasty things said by a small minority, but by BOTH sides! Not just those that didn’t like TLJ. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and most on here have given genuine reasons for why they did or didn’t connect with the movie, some with good humoured piss taking. If you don’t like people expressing what they think then maybe forums aren’t for you.
Clarance Boddiker, a great villian from a great movie.
Surely you can see the difference in Force Awakens and Last Jedi?
In China, the people who went to see Last Jedi are trying to get their money refunded from “an insult to their intelligence”.
Everyone here loves Star Wars, just not everyone likes Last Jedi.
You get your blu-ray and watch it every day, nobody is going to take that away from you
You get your copy and you can hate it every day, until the day when new SW movie comes out and you’ll start hating that one.
haha, no thank you, Disney’s not getting any more money from me on this turd, but I prop will be there in Dec for the Solo movie
This is the second highest grossing movie in Chinese history. It made $3 billion.
Somehow I don’t think the Chinese movie-going public is that worried about their intelligence being insulted:
https://youtu.be/iDMNLd1pJaQ
This has been Star Wars fandom since the prequels, probably since the special editions. The difference is that there are more defenders now so more arguments ensue.
Not saying it’s right, it’s just the way it is and has always been.

Setting plastic DVDs ablaze produces dioxins and furans (hormone-disrupting, cancer-causing substances that build up in water, soil, crops, and our own bodies).
It’s a much better option to use a shredder, or a hammer, or even make drink coasters — get creative. But burning? Not environmentally friendly in the slightest..
Oh stop being such a drama queen.
You sir should relax. No one forces you to read others opinions. Just shell up crabby.
Example: I have been a progressive rock fan since always. One of the most criticized and despised styles in music since the 70’s. But I only consider the opinions that match with mine, after all, the ears are mine, the eyes are mine. Same applies to TLJ, or Revenge of the Sith. I love them. TLJ is one of the best three SW EXACTLY for the reasons some haters criticize.
It’ll be interesting to see what might have been fleshed out or not. I’m more intrigued by these scenes than probably any other SW movie before it.
Sweet! I’m pretty stoked on that Target exclusive.
I can’t wait to have this masterpiece home and look at the extras. Particularly curious about the scene in the care takers: expecting it to be a puppet festival!
is it too much to ask for a whole featurette on the lightsaber prop making?……
that would actually be interesting.
I have build 2 LED string lightsabers, and that’s what they have used in the past 3 films. that’s how they get the lighting so good on the surroundings and actor’s faces. it’s real light (unlike all the ones before, which were just poles)

Well that’s pretty awesome.
If this release date is accurate, we are looking at a 14 week theater run??
this is now literally a “straight to dvd” movie
when does pre-sale start, tomorrow?
You don’t know what the word literally means.

some context: TFA was first available for purchase via download april 1st(2016) and for dvd and blu ray april 5th. this is pretty much in line with that.
Between this and br2049 I guess I’ll be buying a great big 4K set soon.
Meanwhile I love that my kids watch Star Wars on VHS tapes on my little old tube tv. Something warm and fuzzy (figuratively and literally!) about that.
This movie got better every time I saw it. That’s why I’m here.
It gives me perverse satisfaction that the “haters” are powerless against the permanent existence of the last Jedi.
All their pathetic complaining in the dark, the moaning, their “facts”, their stats and numbers that they seem to try and use to quantify the validity of their opinion. none of it matters. None of it changes anything.
The last Jedi exists. It’s done. It’s carved in stone for them to hate forever.
And they are powerless to even leave this site. They keep coming back, day after day. Not to spread Star Wars love, not to intelligently critique…just to complain.
Complain complain complain.
For weeks. Months.
Such a sad waste of time.
I like many marvel movies. But I didn’t like Thor Ragnarok. In fact I sort of hated it.
Maybe I should go to a marvel movie fan site and relentlessly post my opinions about how much I disliked it and exactly why those who did like it are wrong!!
I should do that. Every day. For weeks. Months.
Oh wait…No one cares if I didnt like it. Why would i deliberately spread my pointless negative opinions? To boost my ego? I don’t need that. To validate my opinion? Hmm…nope don’t need that either.
Maybe I’m just not a pathetic asshole with no life.
Complaining about the complainers. How meta.
It’s all I hear from people who liked this movie, it makes me suspicious of their sincerity. I’d say it’s more likely he’s Andrewburbank.
in my mind, i read what you said with condicension…. so.. are you complaining about the complainers of the complainers? wait…. am i complaining about you?

I know, it’s weird how that works out. But really, his point on Thor Ragnarok; I actually prefer that movie to TLJ. But to be fair, I have preferred the MCU to these new SWs films. Again, different strokes for different folks, but these new movies for me haven’t really done anything, minus RO which I dig a lot more.
And really, rather than gripe/ moan; I focus on the stuff that I love. Because, life is way too short. Note that shouldn’t be conflated with not offering criticism.
For there is ways you can voice criticism and have it be level-headed/ rational. Even if you don’t agree. 🙂

Well, we all have our goals. But tell that to China:

SJW are now screwed

“These actors aren’t very beautiful, which may deter a lot of Chinese from seeing the recent films,” Tao told SixthTone. “We fans often joke that if Finn were played by Will Smith, Chinese people might be more inclined to watch it — because he’s very handsome.”
There will be some models in Ep9 in order to please Chinese audience instead of big nose woman resistance officer 😀
Nice to see it totally flop in China.
“if finn was played by will smith.”
so thats it, huh? you’re some kind of last jedi?
Finn should have been played by Chris Tucker he was such a joke.
just imagine finn showing up to canto bight looking like this:

The really fun part will be comparing all of the post-TLJ release articles explaining why it never was expected to do well in China, with all of the pre-TLJ release articles celebrating the casting of the Rose character and how this greater diversity will really appeal to people in China.
Overtired
How long did you spend on this. Whose pathetic now.
Perfectly said. That was a joy to read.
The Disney shills are making these talk backs a real trial these days. There’s no way this “leak” is anything but a purposeful attempt at damage control. Nothing but FAKE NEWS. Over two hours of bonus footage, lol, yeah I suppose we’ve already had over two hours of penalty footage.
Seems a good artwork, certainly much better than the TFA steelbook; that one was too simplicistic, should have been better
THey should give this away as an apology.
I want I now. I loved the movie. Made me think much more than any other of the series.

they dont need to retcon anything.they need to wipe it out of canon completely…making a new episode 8 would Suffice…nobody would even care…people would actually praise him for it
Wrong.
Soon to be one month that the film arrived to most screens. It’s amazing how some folks would still spend their negative energy here. Guys, it’s just a film. The ones who love it come here in joy. It just makes me happy to talk about it. But I’m not going to go to a Justice League discussion all over again cause I simply don’t like the film.
Not being sarcastic here. Go out, have some fun, watch other movies that may fit your taste. If you don’t find them, revive those that make you dream. Just try to find some pleasure on the things you love. Finding pleasure by ruining something that many people liked just because you don’t is no real pleasure.

Is it to much to hope that Disney may start to listen to the fans, and actually give us a movie with Asoka?
Obi-Wan movie, maybe?
Which fans?
The Star Wars fans of coarse
I’m a Star Wars fan. I absolutely loved The Last Jedi.
I know Star Wars fans who loved Attack of the Clones. I don’t.
yes, Attack of the Clones is a lowpoint for the Fandom
For you and me, not for the fandom.
Looking at fandom as a solid group of people is like saying that “those who have your opinion are the fans, not the others”. There are now at least 3 generations of Star Wars fans and they are very diverse in terms of their preferences. They are giving you a film per year. Why complaining? If you don’t like one of them just wait for the next one.
After the Phantom Menace backlash, Lucas refused to listen to the fans, instead he said he shut off his internet. He doubled down and gave us Attack of the clones. Then after that mess, he gave in, listened to the complaints and made Revenge of the Sith.
Does it pay to make your dislike vocal? Sometimes.
What I don’t get is those that take it personally, Like you said if you like it, great. Its here forever, there is no going back or “retconning”. If you dont, well maybe next time
I think it’s tough to please everyone at this point as it’s such a diverse fanbase that spans generations.
Hell yes it pays! Right on!!
Did he listen to the complaints suddenly after AOTC? And that’s why ROTS is better? I’ve never heard that before.
Citation, please.
I think we are in the middle of a lowpoint for the fandom.
AOTC was a lowpoint for the franchise.
I’d like to see Ahsoka, but maybe an animated film. A cool thing I’d like to see from SWs is actually more animated films. And not Forces of Destiny in terms of cheap projects but legitimately cool projects, like TCW microseries/ another 3D animated movie.
i don’t want them to listen to us because its impossible to please everyone. all they can do is try to make a movie that most will like.
They succeeded with 7
financially yes, but there was still a fair amount grumbling, though not to this degree.
I wouldn’t trust them not to fuck it up. It’s that risky….
I thank God daily, that General Lando Calrissian wasn’t in The Last Jedi and I hope he’s not in Episode 9 either.
Lucas never listened to us.
Wise words, man. I have made my thoughts on TLJ clear(I liked it, but I find it very flawed), but I’m not going to spend all my energy hating it. Counterproductive. I focus on the things that I love: the OT, the Legends written material which to me will be my main canon.
And even non-SWs stuff, like the MCU/ plethora of CB movies, alongside Avatar the last Airbender. Heck, I have gotten back into writing my own tales. Overall, I choose to celebrate SWs for what it has given me and not obsess over the negative/ dark.
For a wise man once said, it is easy to be a cynic/ a negative man amid the flow, but harder to say no and be more optimistic. Overall, I thank every reasonable, positive person I have met on this site.
You all are awesome and I wish you all the very best. May the force be with you all. Always. 🙂
i appreciate the spirit of what you’re trying to communicate here, but I have to respectfully disagree.
Negative comments about these films really isn’t a problem at all. After all, as you say, it’s just a film.
Fans who are displeased with the film, have just as much of a right to have their voices heard and thoughts discussed as those who were pleased with the film.
The real problem is those who are unable to tolerate negative comments of the film, who lash out at critics with seething frothing false accusations of racism, sexism and/or misogyny, xenophobia, and all manner of other made up issues.
Negative criticism has been around the Star Wars franchise since at least 1983’s ROTJ’s Ewoks. Maybe even earlier, as I distinctly remember not liking C-3PO at all in the 1970s. And of course we’re all aware of the overly dramatic hysteria over the Prequels.
But that’s the thing when anyone engages in world building. Just as in the real world, there will be aspects that appeal to you, and aspects that don’t. You need that full spectrum to make any fantasy world believable.
If you can’t discuss both the good and the bad, then you’re not able to discuss the franchise as a whole. Talking about the good, the bad, and the ugly is all pleasurable for those who enjoy film.
The Disney films, are making horrible missteps in some people’s minds. Fans of the product, particularly those who have supported it financially for decades, have every right to voice that opinion in hopes of making Disney get back on track with the franchise, as dim as that hope may be.
No one is ruining anything for anyone. People can still love these new films without regard to anything that critics might say. Love the films all you want; no one is stopping, or telling you not to.
But in the end, it would be best if folks could focus their comments on the film itself, rather than type out meaningless and usually inapplicable insults on commentators for not reflecting their own opinions.
“But in the end, it would be best if folks could focus their comments on the film itself, rather than type out meaningless and usually inapplicable insults on commentators for not reflecting their own opinions.”
I wish I could like your post a hundred fold, especially this quote. You are absolutely right! Everyone does have a right to voice their dislike or like of this movie. Heck, any movie. It is why I genuinely do not like partaking in film/franchise discussions online.
There’s too much BS in terms of egos, ad homimens and other forms of nastiness. And why when i do find rational, level-headed individuals I especially treasure them.
As for your point on LF and these new era of films, yes; there is plenty to critique, notably the lack of consistency and direction with the Saga films. And that to me is very disappointing. The way the ST has unfolded with our OT heroes basically failling and becoming former shells of themselves is just sad.
Yeah, it is realistic, but to me given how SWs has always(in the case of the OT) was a very romanticized story with mythology; it seems like a slap in the face. And really, even if I were to concede to that; I have seen similiar franchises, like Avatar and Legend of Korra which have done this better. In my opinion, of course.
The is said about my gripes about consistency and heck, I’m really curious to hear opposing thoughts if given in a constructive way.
But yeah; whenever discussing a franchise good or bad; it is always good to highlight these elements. Separate one’s ego and really listen to someone else’s view, even if opposing. You might just learn a lot. I know I have.
Overall, man thank you for this wonderful post. May the Force be with you and please, continue to stay wise. 🙂
Well thank you very much kind sir.
I myself would prefer to have someone counter my negative comments with something like, “well I liked that particular aspect and here’s why…” Instead we get people screaming at critics calling them whiners and racist or whatever.
May the Force be with you too. Always.
And we have people who dislike the movie saying anyone who likes it isn’t a true fan or is being paid by Disney.
It’s both ways.
Indeed, although I would argue the latter isn’t as numerous as the former. In any case, people are free to like to dislike whatever they like. I just wish both camps would focus their comments on the film itsef, rather than try to invalidate the opinions of the opposing camp, which of course never works anyway.
I have no issue with people disliking the movie at all. I merely ask they understand it and not let their own political viewpoints obscure their opinion, positive or negative.
Why not? Political opinions are one factor that informs opinions, and fairly so particularly if the filmmakers decide to inject politics into the film.
Then why did you say: “Most of the critics praising this film are ignoring the poor film craft, and parising it solely because it conveys political messaging they agree with.”
If you think that is valid, you should have no problem with people praising bc of the politics.
That doesn’t make sense.
Do you understand the distinction between using politics as one of many criteria to analyze a film, and using politics as the sole arbiter of the merit of a film
Yes, but you have zero proof that is what these other people are doing. You just assume your opinion is the correct one and everyone else is being dishonest.
is that a distinction you understand?
Thank you @chi_huavara:disqus for such elaborated answer (and other people who replied to). I assume I’m having a hard time to specify who I’m referring to in my comment. I have no problem with people not liking the film and it’s actually exciting to have a constructive conversation between those who liked it and those who doesn’t (doind that in The Cantina Boards, for instance). I’m talking about the people that still are in anger and write agressive messages about the film and the people who made it. I just think it’s healthy at some point to stop thinking Disney has to hear fans, cause fans are eclectic and that’s the first thing Star Wars shows us (respecting diversity). I once was in the “listen to me” site (at the time post-phantom menace) and you just get frustrated all over again cause the filmmakers (Lucas at that time) are doing the right thing: following their own voice rather than those of the loud fans. Someone told here that Lucas finally heard the fans with Revenge of the Sith. I don’t think so: it’s just that the story got dark and dramatic at the moment whe thought it had to be, rather than (Lucas dixit) “having Darth Vader slaughtering people from Episode 1”. I still don’t like the prequels but I assume how well they did for a new generation of fans (some of them those who b*tch TLJ today, as I did with the prequels at that time 🙂
Some are agruing that the film makers followed the fan’s voices rather than there own…

Everyone can have an opinion whether you like it or not. I just get annoyed at fans who think their opinion is right.
Oh no, I’ll bitch and moan about what an absolute horrible movie it is as long as I damn well please. It literally is that BAD.
#TheLastJediSucks
At some point, you might get a life.
You didn’t like ‘Justice League’?
I’m fine with that.
i think I’ll still wait for the 9 Volume 4K Star Wars Super Dooper Set…
Wow — The late Oliver Reed eerily foreshadowed the perfect impersonation of someone attempting to explain to you why you didn’t like TLJ…

Dead on, actually.
Best episode of Dinner for Five ever.
I just hope I’m watching this correctly.

You shoulda kept the Sonic vid up — that kid is gold.
2 Hours of additional footage?!?! Can I assume it’s a “alternate universe” SW movie that actually takes place following Episodes 1,2,3,4,5,6, & 7 ??? Answers the questions everyone is dying to know; Snokes origins, the Knights of Ren, Rey’s true parentage, eliminates Holdo and Rose, honors Ackbar, give Poe back his testosterone, honors the loss of General Han Solo, gives Luke even the remotest shred of decency…. Mind BLOWN Mr. Rian Johnson… you cheeky bastard! I think I might still yet love you.
If however it’s more of that crap you call Episode 8…. you’re dead to me.
Maybe there’s enough footage to make a completely different movie.
No amount of fanboy rage about not getting the movie they constructed in their own minds will change the movie we got. Thank god. The alternate stories I’ve heard people propose for this movie who didn’t like it are all predictable and lame. I can’t praise Johnson enough for not dispensing a predictable helping of dumb fan service to appease these people.
That moment when you realize you just read a comment by a paid employee from Disney trying to pass off as a Star Wars fan while desperately doing PR control for the backlash they are getting for the biggest piece of trash ever made..there isnt one hardcore star wars fan who is not in Disneys pocket that liked this trash….
That moment when you read a comment from a butthurt fanboy still mad because other people liked the film he didn’t, so he has to resort to BS conspiracy theories to explain how anyone could possibly have a different opinion than him.
Ummm… there’s at least one, because I have no affiliation with LFL or Disney and I love it. So, nice try.
That moment when you read a comment by someone who has completely lost touch with reality….
I am a hardcore fan. Disney doesn’t pay me. I loved the movie.
If you actually think that, you are insane and should seek help.
Does Trump pay you?
You watched a different movie.
I can’t believe anyone really wanted to include Han’s funeral in ep8. They’ve got stuff to do, rebels don’t sit around dwelling on the past. And there was never the suggestion in 7 that Rey or Snoke would have their backstory filled out. Snoke especially doesn’t need it any more than the Emperor needed it in the OT
I don’t get all the hate! Supposed Hardcore Star Wars fans didn’t like the prequels , Did not like the Special Edition Star Wars , Some do not like the Sequel Trilogy and are begging George Lucas to come out of retirement, some just don’t like The Last Jedi
What the heck do you want?
I wanted Thrawn and Mara Jade in the sequel trilogy but i’m not crying and saying Star Wars is dead or Disney is killing Star Wars because for the most part i love Star Wars for what it is trilogies of movies.
I might complain about a few scenes, But that is all i ever do with any movie!
I’ve liked everything but the prequels. I think Last Jedi was genius
Thanks Target. Han Solo? Looks like Moses… this is so wrong on so many levels! https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/688024c04088e925591a5fac49fb981e9475634f4ceb8915d44dfd134e8938d1.jpg
