Ron Howard has taken to Twitter once again, this time to reveal the Han Solo standalone film’s title!
Check out the video below. Ron Howard not only confirms that production has wrapped on the film, but Howard has officially discarded the now infamous “Untitled Han Solo Film”, as a certain Wookiee hands Howard a card, which he turns around to reveal the title!

After an awesome trailer for TLJ and yesterday’s ‘Black Panther’ trailer stealing everyone’s thunder, here we are talking about the Han Solo film again because of its boring title.
There’s a pretty good chance that this wasn’t always the title.
Yeah. Given what we know about the production it could have been called “Corellian Pie” or “There’s something about Solo”
I would’ve rather they stick with “Han Solo”, but I bet they’re making these character stand-alone movies uniform as I suspect the Obi-Wan movie will be titled “Kenobi.”

And just like that what little excitement I had after Ron Howard’s twitter manipulation has left. Meh a title is a title I guess. Really how creative could you get when it’s a film specifically about a character? As long as this doesn’t portend the quality of the film.

It’s more of a hyperbole. I know there is no connection between a title and content. Really its the only title that makes sense to sell a movie like this. Better than Han Solo and his Cosmic Journey.

Providing its a great film it has lots of potential to have sequels.

I see it now, all the ships in the movie will be called just “Ships”, all male character “Men” and female “Women”, and “Aliens” for the rest. Here’s a name for you: “Han Solo: Hoakey religions and ancient weapons”
I like it — but I would have preferred — Han Solo: A Star Wars Story. A one word title for a SW movie is just kind of awkward — “Hey man, Friday want to go see SOLO?” Han Solo sounds better.

I wish Disney didn’t talk down to the consumer and stuck with Star Wars Anthology. A Star Wars Story makes everything sound like a coloring book.
Sticking with it would make them look stupid, though, since “anthology” doesn’t mean “side story”, it means “a collection of stories”. An anthology film would be “multiple stories in one film”.
Star Wars is the Anthology, Solo is a part of the overall “collection” as in Star Wars as a whole, Captain Contrary

Do people who complain about the title being dumbed-down, simplistic or obvious realize this is part of a series titled “Star Wars”? It could just as easily have been titled “Space Fights”.

As for the title name, Solo. I like it. Short and to the point and evokes a lot. Kind of like Logan from the X-men. And the font is nice too. If I had one gripe, it is more of a small nitpick, it is the term Star Wars story. Why did LF ditch the term anthology?
Was it a focus test thing? Where people found it hard to pronounce? I get LF wants to make these movies reach a global audience, but still; A Star Wars story sound so simplistic.
But regardless of that nitpick, the title card looks good. I still will need to see a trailer, but as of now I have no interest in seeing this. Not that I like Han Solo; far from it. I just never really cared for the character. Minus ESB.

The word “penultimate” sounds better than the word “final”, but they don’t mean the same thing. That’s kind of how words work, they can sound as cool as possible but that doesn’t make them synonyms.

I was just curious, really. I do not see a point of even arguing something as superficial as a title. It is why I never delved into discussions over if The last Jedi meant one or two. But it also helps in this movie’s instance that I am quite indifferent to it.
For my own reasons, as I mentioned. But hey, who knows? Maybe, I will find enjoyment out of it?

I agree that if they are continuing the “A Star Wars Story” label for the anthology films, than short and sweet is better. I think “Han Solo” would have also worked. If it was any lengthier, it would have sounded weird along with the ASWS moniker. That being said, I don’t really like ASWS either. I didn’t like it with Rogue One and I don’t like it with Solo. Who ever says “A Star Wars Story” when talking about Rogue One? Nobody. Nevertheless, they decided to go with it. So I guess the titles for upcoming character based anthologies won’t be too hard to figure out. Kenobi: A Star Wars Story seems about right. But if I had my druthers, I would rather they had dropped ASWS and gone with something more unique. “When Han Met Chewie”, “A Day in the Life of a Space Pirate”, “Gone in 12 Parsecs”, “Corellian Nights”…Okay, I’m joking about these, but you get my point. But alas, don’t judge a movie by its title. I enjoyed the last “Star Wars Story” quite a bit.
I mean, does anyone EVER use film subtitles in casual conversation? Like when people talk about Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, the most people say is “Raiders”. Nobody says “Indiana Jones” unless they forgot the title in the heat of the moment, or they’re describing them as a whole.
True. I guess what I’m trying to say is that it’s weird adding that on the end to me. I think Star Wars: Rogue One would have been a better title, and people would be more likely to use the whole title in conversation. I get that it helps differentiate from the main saga films, but I just prefer that structure. How weird would “Raiders of the Lost Ark: An Indiana Jones Story” be? Lol.

Actually, the movie was just called “Raiders of the Lost Ark”. It was never called “Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark” during the 1980’s, either theatrically or on home video. The iconic subtitle “Indiana Jones and the…” was not introduced until Temple of Doom was aanounced in 1984. That being said, as an ’80’s kid, I always thought the movie should be called “Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark”, so as to better fit in with the rest of the series, and also because, as awkward as the extended title admittedly is, it does fit in with the whole tribute to 1930’s and ’40’s action serials that was the initial idea behind these films in the first place…
I agree I hate “A Star Wars Story”. All these Anthology films are predominantly for the older generation. I think we can handle a grown up word.
Portaler, nothing that comes with a production budget of 200 million dollars (or even half of that) is “predominantly for the older generation”. They need to sell this stuff to the largest possible audience – point being: even if they ends up labeling every single movie “A Star Wars-y Pumpkin Cake”… who cares, as long as the movie is good?

Thing is ASWS is a simple sub-title to label it as not part of the Saga. No one is ever going to refer to it, but it allows even casual fans to understand its not an Episode film. Talking of which, most of those are known simply by the title, such as TLJ isn’t now generally referred as Episode VIII TLJ.
i agree. they wanted the general audience to be able to separate the spinoffs from the saga, yet so many people thought rogue one was a sequel to TFA anyway. just call it by its title, like marvel does.

I wonder if Lucasfilm considered using XXXXX: A Star Wars Adventure. Adventure sounds better to me than the bland word STORY. They should stay consistent in these stand alones and label them as such, but adventure sounds better to me. Maybe the word adventure is too specific, in case they want to make a love story or something.
I agree — I liked when they were calling them “Anthology films”. You are 100% RIGHT though — “A Star Wars Adventure” is MUCH stronger and more impactful than the rate benign “A Star Wars Story”

Been thinking about what they’d conjure up for the title of the movie. We’ve heard it covers a lot of timeline. So I’m not surprised by this title. It’s simple and to the point.

Unsurprising title, but serviceable. I get that they want to stick with “a star wars story” at the end, but it feels like X-Men Origins: Han Solo. In any case this was always going to be the hardest SW film to sell to me since it feels the least needed, but I’m sure I will see it and if Rogue One taught me anything its not to doubt lucasfilm’s ability to turn an uncertain mess into a competent and enjoyable film. Fingers crossed there isn’t TOO much slapstick humor

Slight modification: Solo, Duo, Trio, Quartet, Quintet — although there’s already a film called Quintet starring Paul Newman. It’s one of the few post-MASH Robert Altman movies I haven’t seen, apparently science fiction and not very good.

That would have been a cool title, but we don’t exactly know what it is about yet. If it includes the Kessel Run, then I would say it would be a good name. I’m fine with the title. Only after the movie will I be able to determine if it is fitting. Right now, it is simple so I’ll give it that.

That shows a severe lack of understanding of the entire process. It wasn’t part of the agreement, but one he had mind, that (I think?) already had Kasdan attached to write.
I presume you are referring to his treatment of Episode VII, which was used, but changed during development, even as he was working on it with them. That is how it works.
You’re right, I don’t really know much about licensing rights or contract negotiations in the film industry, But I was assuming that if he was really looking forward to having the story of Han Solo be told, and if what you say about him wanting Kasdan attached to the project is true, I can see how making this movie would have been a priority in the direction he would like to see the franchise go, as well as it be something he asked Disney to make. It’s not like I think he held them at gunpoint and said “Sign it with Solo or go sleep with the Gungans.” And yes I was referring to the entire outline he had for the ST in general. Wiped out like the senate. But yes I also understand that they grabbed elements of it such as a young female lead and so on.

As much as I wasn’t interested in a Solo film, I will still watch it. Who knows, it may end up being an awesome film. Maybe even a classic. We all know the story of A New Hope. How it faced every problem you can think of. And look how that film turned out.
