Legends Characters Tag and Bink to Appear in the Han Solo Movie
Ron Howard’s latest tease from the Han Solo set is perhaps his best one yet. At first glance Howard’s post on Twitter seems rather ordinary but the added hashtag to it made many fans excited. The two main characters from the popular spoof comic Tag & Bink are about to become official Star Wars canon! Apart from the new characters revelation, the tweet also confirms that Lawrence Kasdan’s son Jon, who co-wrote Han Solo with his father, will have a role in the movie.

At first the question mark made us hesitant to believe that these two characters on the photo are indeed the very same Tag and Bink from the spoof comic. But the creator of the Tag & Bink series Kevin Rubio responded to Howard’s tweet thanking him that his series is now official canon.

Just a moment later Jon Kasdan, who is co-writing the movie with Lawrence Kasdan, confirmed to Kevin that it was his decision to make the characters canon, since he is a huge fan of the comic book.

Also Jon Kasdan confirmed that he himself is playing one of the characters, together with Toby Hefferman (the guy in the middle on the photo), who is working as a first assistant director on Han Solo (he worked on Rogue One as well on the same position).
For those unfamiliar with the Tag & Bink series, here’s Wookieepedia’s description:
The Tag & Bink series of comic books was created by Kevin Rubio. Following the success of Kevin’s shorts that appeared in Star Wars Tales, Dark Horse and Lucasfilm commissioned Kevin to do a two-part original series, which became Tag & Bink Are Dead 1 and Tag & Bink Are Dead 2 (Often referred to by Kevin as “Tag and Bink Live”).
The stories themselves are comedic in nature and based in part on Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead – an award winning play that centers around the lives of two minor characters in William Shakespeare’s Hamlet. But in the case of Tag and Bink, we follow two hapless rebels in the Star Wars universe, as they cross paths with every major character, in both the original and new trilogy.All of the stories are explicitly non-canon.
So as you can see the two characters are actually rebels and they are probably undercover as we see them in Howard’s photo, as they were numerous times in the comic book.
Are you familiar with the Tag & Bink series? Are you excited to see them on the big screen as official Star Wars canon? I really wonder how big their involvement will be, since obviously they will be a comedic element in the movie. Well, we’ll find out in seven months.

Really weird choice to whitewash one of these characters for what will almost certainly be just a silly background cameo.

The image I’ve always seen of Tag and Bink is an interracial pair, but it seems like different artists have had different interpretations. Weird.

Which is incredibly cool. I have always been a fan of well hidden easter eggs that reward you for the dedication to a movie or game.

My hope is Mara died in the Jedi temple. Then we can get 30 years of backstory with her and Luke.
Honestly with all the inquisitors and such, having her be a hand of the emperor, even minus the Luke’s wife part (if that didn’t fit the story with Luke) would still be so awesome. Seems like a missed opportunity they haven’t done anything with her. Rey gets all the love now. But I didn’t think Thrawn would come back so anything is possible
She was spectacular… spoilers for anyone still new to the books. Seriously don’t read anymore. Her death was totally lame and BS in my book.
If she did make an appearance it would be in a anthology film between VI and VII. Might still happen in the future.
In terms of the EU, Mara Jade is incredibly important. Putting her on-screen shouldn’t serve as some sort of validation of her worth. People do that all the time. You often hear, “That book’s so good it should be a movie.” Why?
While my feelings toward the EU are mixed, I like Mara Jade. She is a great character. Her absence from the cinematic Star Wars universe doesn’t diminish that.
I liked her as things went on but I don’t see any reason to bring her into the new canon. They could adapt her into a new character with many of her traits and I would be cool though.
More likely that she doesn’t have a place the way the new canon is.
And if they have to change her so much in order to fit her, then it wouldn’t be the Mara Jade we all know and love.
So by not doing her a disservice, they are doing the right thing.

Just because they are from a comedic source doesn’t mean they will be funny in the movie. Likely, they’ll just be random guys in the background looking at some monitors. Or they will be the villans of the film. I don’t know.

YES, Tag and Bink, now alongside Kangi Club, meeting Chewie, winning the Falcon from Lando, 1st ever Carbonite freeze, podracing. meeting young Luke, meeting Ben. Leia cameo. and Oh Yes 12 Parsec spice run. This may be the one that finally breaks Star Wars. We miss you George!

When will guys like you learn that it’s not about an idea itself but about the execution of the idea? Execution is what can turn a bad idea into a good scene or a good idea into a bad scene. A podracing scene could be incredibly boring and drawn out (kind of like in parts of the Phantom Menace) or it could be awesome like many of the scenes in Mad Max: Fury Road. Throwing around buzzwords to make the film sound ridiculous isn’t going to work on unbiased and open minded Star Wars fans. Maybe meeting Chewie is cheesy af. Maybe it’s a deeply emotional scene that finally gives Chewie’s character some much needed depth. We will only know once we’ve seen the movie.
I thought George wanted to do a Solo film, so 3 of those listed would be shown under his direction.
No. There’s nothing in the idea of a Han Solo movie that dictates any of that. This movie could have been a heist movie a la Baby Driver, with no characters (Lando excepted maybe) that we’ve ever met, or will meet again.
Oh so your actually George Lucas, because otherwise how else would you know what he had in mind for a Solo film.

Lucas I’m sure had said he would of liked to explore those three things in a Solo film. I never said a Solo film couldn’t explore anything else other than those, but pointing out that that those three would of most likely been covered by Lucas.
Personally I hope this origins film does well and opens the possibility for more Solo films that explore more of the fringe.
