ABC in Talks to Develop Star Wars Live Action TV Show.

Since Disney bought Lucasfilm last year, we had plenty of new Star Wars projects announced (feature films, animation series, spin-off movies, games, comics etc.). Is it possible also to expect a live action TV series on Disney’s network ABC? …

At the Television Critics Association press tour today, IGN asked Disney president Paul Lee about the possibility of Star Wars live action TV series on ABC. Here’s Lee’s reply:

“I certainly have a glint in my eye. They have a lot on their plate when you look at the features that they’re planning on rolling out for the next few years, but we’ve started conversations with them.
It would be nice to use other strong Disney IP besides Once Upon a Time in Wonderland and besides Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. I would love to go there. I’m a particularly fan of Lucasfilm. It’s an amazing world.”

Remember that the plans for a Star Wars live-action television series is in development at Lucasfilm since 2005, when George Lucas announced plans for a television series set between the prequel trilogy and the original trilogy. Unlike the films, the story does not center on the Skywalker saga, but instead “explores criminal and political power struggles in the aftermath of the fall of the Republic”. In 2011, Lucas stated that development has been delayed awaiting advances in technology and reduction in costs.

Also a few months ago again ABC Studios’ president Paul Lee stated that the project is being reviewed for development.
Considering the big amount of Star Wars projects coming our way in the next 6 years I doubt that we could expect a TV show before 2019 but who knows…

Ironically I’m more fearful of a TV series than anything else. If it was I’d prefer it to be on AMC or FX if it can’t be HBO/Showtime.

Yet we all know it’ll go to ABC… I’d have a bit more faith if it were a mini-series with a high production value.

I had a simular feeling about the 3D Animation series ‘Clone Wars’ when it was announced,
but for me it turned to be a pretty good result!

But I agree perhaps as a miniseries is the way to go.
      Perhaps after Episode IX….
