Giancarlo Esposito Hypes up ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3
Giancarlo Esposito recently made an appearance at Thomas J. Henry’s Superhero Car Show & Comic Con in San Antonio, Texas, where he was asked about the future of Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian. In a moment captured in a TikTok video included below, Esposito said that the chances of Gideon returning in a future season of The Mandalorian are very high, adding the following:
“I got to tell you, just to share something with you without spoiling anything. Season 3 of The Mandalorian is off the chain! You’ll be amazed!”

Esposito has long been confirmed as a returning actor for the third season, so we are more focused on his second quote. The actors from the show have been teasing that season 3 will really deliver for us, but we never get tired of hearing yet another one say it. Carl Weathers, who is both a director and an actor in the new season, praised how layered the actual storytelling is, while Pedro Pascal called it even better than season 2.
The trailer shown at Star Wars Celebration already hinted at an even larger scale than ever before, and it looks like they are acting on that. The new season had a similar shooting schedule to season 2 (September-March), but it will have more time to be polished in post-production. Season 2 was released approximately seven months after filming wrapped (October 30, 2020) while season 3 is targeting a release 11 months after cameras stopped rolling — Jon Favreau and the team announced at Star Wars Celebration they are targeting a February 2023 release. While this may also be because of the rest of the Disney Plus Star Wars schedule, or even the overall lagging the VFX industry is going through right now, the extra time probably won’t hurt them to make this one the best season yet.
In addition to Giancarlo Esposito, the returning cast includes Pedro Pascal, Katee Sackhoff, Misty Rosas, Carl Weathers, and Emily Swallow. Christopher Lloyd is also guest-starring in the new season, which will have episodes directed by Bryce Dallas Howard, Carl Weathers, and Rick Famuyiwa, among others.
