Rosario Dawson Teases Thrawn’s Involvement in ‘Ahsoka’, Says Filoni Had a Visceral Reaction to an Episode’s Rough Cut

Rosario Dawson claims that Ahsoka showrunner Dave Filoni has seen an early cut of his live-action spin-off, and has spoken high praises of the project as it’s coming together so far.

Dawson was a special guest at the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo as part of a panel dedicated to her career, briefly careening into her work with RENT and her involvement with Marvel’s Defenders shows that aired on Netflix before moving to Disney Plus. Of course, Dawson’s most recent high-profile work has been tied to her live-action depiction of Ahsoka Tano in The MandalorianThe Book of Boba Fett, and now her upcoming spin-off Ahsoka. While she kept cagey about story details, she explained that Dave Filioni, who first introduced the character with Ashley Eckstein in The Clone Wars, described watching an assembly cut of an episode of the series as “a religious experience”. You can watch the video below:

That’s not all she had to say about the show and her Star Wars experience as a whole. Earlier in the panel, Dawson noted that practicing work with lightsabers was a grueling but rewarding process. She also shared an anecdote about meeting Carrie Fisher at a convention:

Of the moments filming as Ahsoka Tano so far, her favorite has been the scenes involving Luke Skywalker in The Book of Boba Fett. She notes that, given that she read a script claiming that her character Ashoka would be meeting Plo Koon, she delivered takes where she addressed Mark Hamill’s character by the name of the Kel Dor Jedi Master:

She also talked about where she falls in the fan debate between the fan-favorite astromech droids R2-D2 and Chopper:

Lastly, she was asked about the whereabouts of Grand Amiral Thrawn. Dawson playfully noted that answering that question is a “key big kind of giveaway” for where the plot of her series is headed, indicating that fan speculation is on the right track:

Ahsoka is in development for Disney Plus. The series will be released at some point in 2023, likely after The Mandalorian Season 3 has finished airing.
