Gwendoline Christie Wants to Return as Captain Phasma
Gwendoline Christie would love to return to the Star Wars galaxy as Captain Phasma; she admitted as much in a recent interview.
Speaking to Empire Magazine, Christie was asked about the possibility of reprising the role of Captain Phasma in a future Star Wars project. While it’s impossible for her to appear in anything after the events of The Last Jedi, Empire raised the possibility of a live action adaption of the character’s story in the comics, which go into more detail about her origins in the First Order.
I haven’t read the comics but, I mean, it’s Star Wars! I would absolutely love that. There was a template for a character that people got really excited about. It would be smashing if they felt that it was worthwhile to explore, along with some fabulous action.
Empire also mentioned that Captain Phasma is a playable character in the Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga videogame that released earlier this year, which seemed to delight the actress.
This is the next step for me, because as a teenager I was quite obsessed with computer games, and I was quite good at them. I think it’s time to revisit them because they could be everything I had initially wanted them to be. There are entire worlds out there [where] we can investigate our megalomania!
Considering Captain Phasma’s surprising lack of screentime in The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, it could be a lot of fun to watch her rise in the First Order. There’s plenty of material to adapt from the books and comics, and Christie would clearly be onboard.
There would also need to be some willingness on Lucasfilm’s end to greenlight such a project, but it’s nice to see Gwendoline Christie be so enthusiastic about one day returning to a galaxy far, far away.
