‘LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga’ Outsells Latest ‘Pokémon’ and ‘Horizon 2’
It appears that LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is doing so well that it’s already sold more than the latest Pokémon title and Horizon 2.
We had already heard about the massive numbers coming from initial sales (3.2 million copies in two weeks), but the latest LEGO video game has now taken its success to a whole new level. Per GamesBeat, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga now sits comfortably as the second-biggest video game launch of 2022 in the United States, only lagging behind Bandai Namco and FromSoftware’s Elden Ring.
NPD Group’s games analyst Mat Piscatella said:
“LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga was the best-selling game of the month across Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam platforms… It achieved the highest launch month dollar sales for any LEGO title in history, and after one month ranks among the top 6 best-selling LEGO games life to date.”
Moreover, it’s the first non-Nintendo game since Monster Hunter: Rise (back in March 2021) to finish a month as #1 on the Nintendo Switch sales chart. This speaks volumes about the broad appeal it has across different generations of gamers and Star Wars fans. Of course, all the anticipation and hype it built up since it was revealed almost three years ago helped too.
To put things in perspective, The Skywalker Saga has even outsold Pokémon Legends: Arceus (physical only) and Horizon: Forbidden West, Sony’s latest first-party behemoth. Needless to say, those games are platform exclusives, but their IP power is quite heavy.
With the summer holidays right around the corner, Lucasfilm Games, WB Games, and TT Games should only expect those numbers to go up, giving the family-friendly celebration of the Skywalker Saga some extra legs. Even though it was billed as the culmination of LEGO Star Wars video games, we wouldn’t be surprised if the powers that be wanted to move forward with LEGO Star Wars: The Mandalorian or another project which covered installments outside the Skywalker Saga.
