‘The Book of Boba Fett’ Was Composed by Joseph Shirley; Main Theme by Ludwig Göransson

As the first episode of The Book of Boba Fett arrived on Disney Plus Wednesday morning, Oscar-winning composer Ludwig Göransson announced on his Instagram account that, while he composed the main theme, it is Joseph Shirley who composed the rest of the series’ original soundtrack:

Göransson was reported to be involved in scoring the new series, and Shirley has been a frequent collaborator of his for several years now, ever since Creed (2015). He is credited as score programmer in the first season of The Mandalorian, and in charge of additional music for the second season. At this point, we don’t know what this means for Season 3 of The Mandalorian. Göransson was rumored to be not that much involved with the scoring of Season 2, though he clearly returned for key moments in the season finale.

Simultaneously with the release of the first episode, Walt Disney Records has released the main theme on YouTube and several other platforms (here‘s the Spotify link). Check it out:

The rest of the music of the episode has not been released yet. Back in 2019, they used to release the score of each episode of The Mandalorian as it came out, while for Season 2 they released the score in two pieces: first, the music for Chapters 9-12, and then Chapters 13-16. It is unknown at this point what strategy The Book of Boba Fett will follow.

Right after the main theme was released, people online had already identified some similarities with other pieces of music. In particular, check out this song from the 1984 Swedish film Ronia: The Robber’s Daughter (Ronja Rövardotter), titled Mattis & Borka-sången! (by Björn Isfält).
