‘Star Wars’ Announcements and Trailers Not Expected at D23 This Weekend

While some might be hoping Disney will blow our minds with new Star Wars announcements or footage at D23 this weekend, the event program suggests this will not be the case.

In a weekend packed with different presentations, the only Star Wars-specific one is “World Building for Star Wars: Galactic Cruiser” on Saturday 20 November, discussing the new Star Wars-themed hotel opening in Disney parks next year.

The presentation will be hosted by Ashley Eckstein and should provide some interesting insight into the stories behind the hotel and its place in the Star Wars galaxy. However, it might not hold much interest to those who don’t currently plan to stay there, which is understandable considering its exorbitant prices.

Other than a presentation on Sunday morning called “Disney+ Download at Destination D23”, which offers a brief look at what’s currently trending and what is next for Disney+, there’s not any sign of new trailers or announcements at D23. It seems likelier that this presentation will simply namecheck projects that have been announced across the Disney umbrella, which sadly leaves little room for Star Wars as it is.

Lucasfilm seems to prefer releasing new trailers and making announcements about projects on its own time, rather than blend in with special events. Last year’s Disney+ Investor Day seems increasingly like an exception to the rule. The Book of Boba Fett, the next Star Wars property to arrive on our screens, released its trailer just under two months before the series is scheduled to debut on a Monday with little fanfare.

Considering how small a scope there is to talk about future Star Wars projects at this year’s D23, it seems very unlikely that the event will act as the stage to show them off. If we don’t get another update on highly anticipated series like Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor or The Mandalorian season three until next year, it won’t be a surprise.
