Jaleel White Confirms He’s Playing a Pirate in ‘Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’

Jaleel White might as well have said “Did I do that?” on live television when asked about possibly violating a nondisclosure agreement, because he just casually revealed that he has a role in the upcoming Star Wars Disney Plus series Skeleton Crew.

Last night at an NHL matchup between the Golden Knights and the Edmonton Oilers, White was a guest of honor as a fan of the latter team. When asked about future career endeavors, White revealed that he has a show coming up this year set in the galaxy far, far away:

“Oh, wow! Um – I’m actually gonna be in a new series on Disney Plus starring Jude Law, called Skeleton Crew. Yeah, it’s coming out in November, um, November/December, and it’s part of the Star Wars universe. So that’s a big change for me, man! I had to do two hours of makeup every day – I get to play a pirate.”

White playing a pirate makes sense, considering that Vane (portrayed by Marti Matulis) from The Mandalorian Season 3 was spotted in the Skeleton Crew trailer that was exclusively shown to attendees of Star Wars Celebration Europe last month. Given that the show focuses on a group of kids lost in space, it might be more understandable that they would run into space pirates instead of the remains of the Galactic Empire.

Jaleel White is best known for his portrayal of Steve Urkel in the ABC/CBS sitcom Family Matters, a character initially introduced as a supporting character in the spin-off to Perfect Strangers. Though he was introduced halfway through the first season, Urkel became a series regular and served as the breakout role for White. In addition, he also voiced Sonic the Hedgehog (and a few supporting characters) in The Adventures of Sonic the HedgehogSonic the Hedgehog (also called SatAM by fans), and Sonic Underground.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is set to arrive on Disney Plus later this year. If White is to be believed (and the possibility exists that he could be mistaken), then the show will hit in November or December, but in any case, it’s been confirmed that the series will arrive sometime this year.
