‘Andor’ Season 2 Stalls Filming at the Winspit Quarry Due To Unfavorable Weather Conditions

According to the local news website Dorset Live, filming for the second season of Andor at Winspit Quarry, Dorset, has been temporarily suspended due to weather conditions, as the risk of rock falls and landslides has increased in recent days. Production is expected to resume normally in a few days, though it’s unknown exactly when.

A spokesperson for the National Trust, which owns the site, said the following in a statement:

“The planned filming due to take place at Winspit Quarry has been cancelled due to safety concerns following the recent turbulent weather, which has increased the risk of rockfalls and landslips. Visitors looking to explore the Dorset Coast are advised to follow signs and keep out of unsafe areas until further surveys have been undertaken.”

This is already part of a Star Wars tradition that Andor season 1 also took part in. On May 4, 2021, a big storm caused severe damage to one of the UK sets and delayed filming of the first season for a few days in Cleveleys, which doubled for (at least) the recreational planet we saw in episode 7. In 1976, the original Star Wars was hit by the first winter storm in Tunisia in 50 years during the first week of filming. A major blizzard in Norway hit The Empire Strikes Back a few years later, and a sandstorm also caused havoc on the set of The Phantom Menace in 1997.

It’s unclear if this unfavorable weather caused any damages to the set, as it did on the first season, or if authorities simply decided to close the perimeter for safety concerns. The crew returned to this season 1 location earlier this month, which served as the set for Saw Gerrera’s crew, visited from time to time by Stellan Skarsgård’s Luthen Rael. It’s unclear if this is the only set the second season is currently shooting in, or if another part of the cast is destined somewhere else filming for a different episode.

Andor season 2 will be filming through August of this year, aiming at a release on Disney Plus one year later.
