‘The High Republic: Path of Vengeance’ and ‘Quest for Planet X’ New Synopses Released

A pair of new synopses for the next wave of High Republic novels has dropped. The next adult novel, The High Republic: Cataclysm, received its official description less than a week ago; now we have a couple more for Path of Vengeance and Quest for Planet X.

According to new listings on Edelweiss, the mysterious Planet X will be the central location for the next young adult and middle grade offerings from this phase of the High Republic publishing initiative. That’s not a huge surprise for Tessa Gratton’s Quest for Planet X, as it obviously includes the location, whose synopsis reads:

A trio of adventure-seekers set off to find the legendary Planet X and save the galaxy as they know it!

Despite rumors of conflict between the Jedi and the Path of the Open Hand, two of the Republic’s most powerful prospecting families announce a contest to chart new hyperlanes.

Under the guise of joining the competition, Dass Leffbruk and Sky Graf recruit Jedi padawan Rooper Nitani, only to reveal their real plan: find the mysterious and legendary Planet X. The trio’s quest takes an unexpected turn when they meet members of the Path of the Open Hand, forcing the heroes to put their goals aside to help the Jedi—and the galaxy—before it’s too late.

Quest for Planet X will release on April 4, the same day as Cataclysm.

Whatever happens in those April novels will then culminate on May 2 with Cavan Scott’s Path of Vengeance. Marda Ro and her cousin Yana are back in the spotlight as they venture to Planet X for very different reasons. The new synopsis on Edelweiss reads:

This enthralling follow up to Path of Deceit finds cousins Marda and Yana Ro bound by blood but driven apart by faith.

Marda and Yana belong to the Path of the Open Hand, a group led by a charismatic woman called the Mother, which believes the Force must not be used by anyone. While Marda joins a perilous expedition to Planet X in search of more mysterious creatures to use against the Jedi, Yana finds herself forming an unexpected alliance with the father of her dead lover in attempt to wrest the Path from the Mother’s control. These two young women will face a crossroads, forced to choose not only their own fates, but that of the galaxy itself.

Interestingly, the listing on Edelweiss excludes the tagline stating that Path of Vengeance is the “thrilling conclusion” to Phase 2 as seen in other listings at the time of writing. Taking that line literally was never going to pay off, as even if Path of Vengeance concluded the Path of the Open Hand’s storyline, there were surely going to be comics released beyond that May 2 date. And sure enough, Marvel’s mainline The High Republic series as well as Dark Horse’s The High Republic Adventures will run past that date, but are likely to end in May or early June.

In any event, these two novels are likely to tie up the major plot lines associated with the Path of the Open Hand, which has been the main narrative thrust of Phase 2. Quest for Planet X and Path of Vengeance are available for pre-order now.
