New ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3 Trailer to Debut Monday, January 16, During NFL Playoff Game

Lucasfilm is planning to ride on the Pedro Pascal train. Hidden inside a press release from ESPN, it’s been announced that a brand-new trailer for The Mandalorian season 3 will be released next Monday, January 16, during halftime of the Super Wild Card Game, and around 24 hours after HBO releases the first episode of the adaptation of The Last of Us, starring Pedro Pascal.

The game, which will be broadcast across ESPN, ABC, ESPN2, ESPN+, and ESPN Deportes, will see the Dallas Cowboys and Tampa Bay Buccaneers facing off at 8pm ET. The exact time of the release of the trailer is unknown, but it will probably not happen sooner than 9pm ET/6pm PT.

During D23, the company already released the first teaser trailer for the new season, which was a cut-down version of the promo that they showed attendees at Star Wars Celebration. With the new trailer, Disney will be opening the floodgates for the marketing campaign of the new season of their flagship series, and for the next six weeks, we will be inundated by new promos, magazines coverage, and many interviews with the cast and crew, leading up to the release of the first episode on Wednesday, March 1st.

The main cast and crew from previous seasons are back for the third entry, including Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin (along with his two stunt doubles Lateef Crowder and Brendan Wayne), Katee Sackhoff (Bo-Katan Kryze), Carl Weathers (Greef Karga), Emily Swallow (the Armorer), Giancarlo Esposito (Moff Gideon), Omid Abtahi (Dr. Pershing), and Amy Sedaris (Peli Motto). Christopher Lloyd is also reportedly appearing in a guest role, and Misty Rosas also filmed an undisclosed role. Jon Favreau is back as the main writer, with Dave Filoni co-writing two episodes and Noah Kloor (The Book of Boba Fett) co-writing another one. Favreau and Filoni, as well as Kathleen Kennedy and Colin Wilson, are also executive producers, with Rick Famuyiwa being promoted for the third season too. He will be directing a couple of episodes alongside Weathers and Bryce Dallas Howard, who are also back in the director’s chair for at least one episode each.

Here is the official synopsis for The Mandalorian season 3:

“The journeys of the Mandalorian through the Star Wars galaxy continue. Once a lone bounty hunter, Din Djarin has reunited with Grogu. Meanwhile, the New Republic struggles to lead the galaxy away from its dark history. The Mandalorian will cross paths with old allies and make new enemies as he and Grogu continue their journey together.”

The Mandalorian season 3 will premiere on March 1, exclusively on Disney Plus.
