Diego Luna Attributes ‘Andor’ Success to the Series’ Unique Perspective

Diego Luna discussed the success of Andor during his attendance at the recent Critics Choice Awards. And while he wasn’t among the winners at the event, he had a lot of praise for the show, particularly for its unique storytelling and overall appeal as part of the Star Wars family.

While speaking to IndieWire, Luna had this to say:

“When people talk about ‘Star Wars’ as one thing, it’s too heavy. I’m here because ‘Andor’ is being celebrated, and ‘Andor’ happens to be a part of the ‘Star Wars’ family. But it’s its own thing, you know? And that’s one of the reasons’ Andor’ has been so celebrated, because it’s different. It’s its own. It’s exactly what we wanted to do. And it feels great and weird at the same time. Because we are a part of ‘Star Wars,’ but we are different from anything else that ‘Star Wars’ brings. And I guess I’m just very lucky to have such freedom in a show that is part of ‘Star Wars.’”

From the original trilogy to the upcoming live-action Ahsoka series, fans have always been eager to explore every corner of the Star Wars universe. With Andor, fans can look more closely at the gritty details of life under the Empire. Speaking to Deadline, Luna added:

“This next season ends with the beginning of ‘Rogue One’… We’re working really hard with the same amount of vigour and energy and passion. And it’s lovely to be hearing so much love about this show, ya know, from audiences, because that keeps us fighting to do an even better season.”

The story of everyday people struggling against an all-powerful Empire is sure to keep fans captivated and remind them of the power of ordinary heroes. Cassian Andor’s story is precisely that; an ordinary man who started fighting against the Empire’s oppression as a child and became one of the Rebellion’s greatest heroes.

Filming for season 2 of Andor has already begun — we can expect to see it released in late 2024.
