Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit Developing Unannounced Project for Lucasfilm

Shortly after being signed on by Disney for an overall deal with 20th Television Animation and ABC Signature, it has been learned that Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit (the writers behind Pokémon: Detective Pikachu and Central Park) will be developing at least one unannounced project for Lucasfilm too.

Per Deadline, Hernandez and Samit’s list of upcoming projects for Disney involve the likes of Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm, on top of their existing commitments to 20th TV Animation (for animated projects) and ABC Signature (for live-action projects). At this time, there is no word on whether or not their Lucasfilm project will be for theaters, for streaming, or for network television, as their body of work has encompassed all three formats. Furthermore, it is not clear if this new project will be tied to Star Wars or any of the company’s other significant IPs — such as Indiana Jones or Willow — just as it is not clear whether it will be in an animated or live-action format. This deal allows the duo to write, produce, and develop a number of projects across various Disney-adjacent platforms.

Hernandez and Samit have had a history of working with the Disney and Fox conglomerate before with 20th Century Television’s sitcom 1600 Penn for NBC, 20th Television Animation’s Central Park for Apple TV+, Disney Branded Television’s Ultra Violet and Black Scorpion for Disney Channel, along with an upcoming movie starring the EPCOT mascot Figment the Dragon, plus the upcoming ABC-produced CBS workplace sitcom Talk Nerdy to Me. The duo’s latest Disney-adjacent collaboration, the Hulu and 20th Television Animation-produced adult animated comedy Koala Man, has just released today alongside the announcement of Disney’s long-term investment in the duo. They also technically have an “in” with the Star Wars franchise, albeit via a parody, as guests on The George Lucas Talk Show (hosted by Connor Ratliff playing a fictionalized version of George Lucas).
