Alden Ehrenreich Open To Returning as Han Solo

Alden Ehrenreich has been speaking to the press recently, and while he has no idea what Lucasfilm’s current plans are, he would be open to reprising his role as a younger Han Solo.

Speaking to IndieWire while promoting his new movie Fair Play, Alden was asked about his relationship with Solo: A Star Wars Story and if he’d like to play the swaggering smuggler again.

“The story that I did, I really got to be Han Solo at the end. That’s kind of the arc of the story, which I thought was well done. That’s the fun part. That’s the guy that’s the most fun to be. I’d be very happy to, but who knows.”

It seems that despite all the media negativity surrounding the film at the time, Alden has a positive opinion overall of his time playing Han Solo. At the very least, it seems he is happy knowing that he got to play the Han he grew up watching as part of a new Star Wars movie. Unfortunately, as we’re all aware, just because the film’s star is on board for a return, it doesn’t mean it will happen.

While it’s great to know that the actor would accept the call, it seems the character is not part of Lucasfilm’s plans going forward. Director Ron Howard even said a month ago that all the clamor for a Solo sequel is entirely fan-driven. He also reiterated these remarks in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, where he said that he’s not been in any conversations at Lucasfilm regarding a possible continuation of the story of the film:

“I’m not a producer on Solo. I came in in support of the project and for my long relationship with George, Kathy and Larry Kasdan. So I have not even been in conversations about it. One would assume that there’s some characters there that could go much further, but I’m not sure where Disney+ is going with the Galaxy. These shows are not only important to everybody who works on them, but they’re a big bet for the company each and every time. They make their choices really carefully, and they want to keep growing and evolving. So I know that’s not really an answer, but there’s a real appetite to understand where Star Wars can take audience members to, in addition to building upon characters and ideas that are already known. But there’s a lot of talent in Solo, and whether I was involved or not, I would love to see some of those characters again.”

It’s good to know that if Lucasfilm does change its mind, then Alden Ehrenreich, Ron Howard, and presumably writer Jon Kasdan will be ready to get started. We will always be championing #MakeSolo2Happen, so we hope we get to see Alden Ehrenreich’s Han Solo, Donald Glover’s Lando, and Emilia Clarke’s Qi’ra reprise their roles on the big or small screen someday. We’ll take what we can get.
