Updated: Five New ‘Andor’ Character Featurettes Released Ahead of Season 1 Finale

As we get into the final hours ahead of the season 1 finale of Andor, Lucasfilm has released four new videos focused on Maarva Andor, Kino Loy, Mon Mothma, and Syril Karn. They are minute-long collections of each character’s highlights mixed with the actor behind each role giving some insight into what it was like portraying them.

Fiona Shaw said the following about Maarva:

“The relationship mother to son and son to mother is very difficult, because he’s a difficult son. It’s what happened to him when he was younger. Maarva is a very noble person. She realizes the law itself is not a good law, and then she changes completely. Isn’t she like all of us, that we’re all rebels if we could just have the confidence to be so? The Empire has crept into everything around them. They can’t really do much about it. Until they do.”

Andy Serkis said the following about his character:

“Kino Loy, he’s the dayshift manager of the factory prison. Kino has that belief system that he needs to survive. Once the daunting realization comes down on him, he immediately starts to think ‘We’ve got to do something about this.'”

Genevieve O’Reilly described Mon Mothma’s arc in the season as follows:

“Mon is trapped within this cage of his own creation. Mon is using all her contacts to fund the Rebellion. Her and Vel have a shared fight against the dark. Vel is putting her body on the line in a way that Mon aches to do. Mon must deal with dark forces in order to fight dark forces. Her life within her gilded cage is about to crumble.”

Kyle Soller described his character, Syril Karn, almost as an extremist inside the Imperial ranks:

“Syril wants to be of great service to the Empire, and he thinks that there is no aggression too extreme. He had to kind of go home to figure out who he really is. Cassian becomes just a complete obsession. The ISB represents just this pinnacle of everything that he’s striving for. It’s the strength of his commitment and his vision, that is a really powerful mix. It’s dangerous.”

UPDATE: After the article was first posted, Lucasfilm has revealed another featurette.

The new video features Faye Marsay as Vel Sartha, who said the following about her character:

“Vel is an heiress to a fortune, but that wasn’t the life that she wanted. It’s about the mission. The belief in the cause, it’s just so real. Her cousin is a senator. Mon lives vicarously through Vel, to achieve the things that she wants to achieve as well. If you look at any rebellion, any fight that is worth-fighting for, people will lose their lives in pursuit of that. It’s really high stakes.”

The Andor season 1 finale is set to air tomorrow, November 23, two days after filming for the second season kicked off in the U.K. Stay tuned for our written review of episode 12!
