Dave Filoni and Kathleen Kennedy Recently Met With ‘Star Wars Resistance’ Executive Producer
Shuzo John Shiota, President and CEO of Polygon Pictures and an executive producer on Star Wars Resistance, recently had discussions with Lucasfilm’s Executive Creative Director Dave Filoni and President Kathleen Kennedy.
This Monday, Shiota revealed he spent a day hanging out with Filoni in the Otaku-oriented part of Tokyo as they went shopping, dined, and sharing autographed art. Later that day, Shirota had a meeting that included Kathleen Kennedy. Check out Shirota’s tweet below:
今日もデイブと半日、東京のギークサイドを散策。中野ブロードウェイから新宿のゴジラストア、その後ポリゴン訪問。全ての道程を電車やバスで。で、夜は六本木の5スターホテルで今日来日したキャシー・ケネディ氏にお呼ばれ会食。ギャップ激しい一日でした。 pic.twitter.com/lMl2AzMrH5

The text in the tweet roughly translates to the following:
“Today, I spent half a day with Dave walking around the geek side of Tokyo. From Nakano Broadway to Godzilla store in Shinjuku, then visit Polygon. All routes by train or bus. Then, in the evening, I was invited to dinner by Kathy Kennedy, who came to Japan today, at a 5-star hotel in Roppongi. It was a gap-heavy day.“
This seems to suggest that Dave Filoni, now a creative at the executive level who appears to still oversee most of the company’s animated efforts, and the people Lucasfilm, may be interested in getting Shirota involved with future CGI animated productions, or possibly even Star Wars anime. Polygon Pictures has done work on both “traditional” cartoons, such as TRON: Uprising, as well as more conventional anime-styled CGI projects, like Netflix’s Godzilla anime film trilogy, so future works in the galaxy far, far away that Polygon Pictures might make could fit either style.
Back at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim, it was stated that Star Wars and anime had a very bright future together; compounded with the recent news of Studio Ghibli working with Lucasfilm, it seems possible that this interest in expanding Star Wars to an emerging anime market might just end up being for more than just future seasons of Star Wars Visions. It will likely be a while before anything tangible is realized from these meetings, given that animation is a slow process, so let’s wait and see.
Both seasons of Star Wars Resistance are available to stream on Disney Plus.
