Characters of ‘Star Wars: The High Republic’ – Creighton Sun, the Chancellors, and More

The ‘Characters of the High Republic’ video series rolls on. The official Star Wars YouTube channel continues to introduce readers to the various characters and factions of the High Republic Phase 2, with its first batch of shorts focused on the key players from Path of Deceit.

Now that Convergence has hit stores, the series’ focus has shifted. A new video has been posted, showcasing Jedi Master Creighton Sun. Check it out below:

Sun is tasked with assisting in peace talks in what became known as the Forever War between the planets of Eiram and E’ronoh. That thread is more or less where Convergence begins, which you can read more about in our full review. We also had the opportunity to speak with author Zoraida Córdova — get the highlights here.

You can’t have a novel without the main thread unraveling and leading to the involvement of Chancellor Kyong Greylark. However, there isn’t just one chancellor at this pivotal time in the galaxy. Between Chancellors Greylark and Orlen Mollo, they each serve vital roles in expanding the reach of the Republic. Learn more about them in the video below:

Greylark focuses on the day-to-day of Coruscant while Mollo is out in the wild creating those relationships with new worlds. Another huge goal of theirs is to allow everyone safe travel across hyperspace to create a unified galaxy. So, the two chancellors send out specialized teams to help chart the path towards that goal — they’re known as pathfinder and communications teams. Learn more about each in the video below:

As the galaxy expands into the Outer Rim and beyond, these teams connect the galaxy. They establish communication on new worlds and chart paths for them to be a part of the galaxy as more of it is explored. One team in particular has been followed so far inside the pages of the junior novel Quest for the Hidden City — you can find our review here.

Last, but certainly not least, is one of the only characters who made the leap into the past from Phase 1. Ikkrukkian Jedi Master Porter Engle was forced out of retirement back in Light of the Jedi when the Nihil came to Elphrona. Engle had a long and noteworthy career, becoming known as the Blade of Bardotta. Learn more about how he got that famed title in the video below:

The complete story of how he became known as “the Blade” will play out in the upcoming Marvel comic of the same name. The first issue in the limited four-issue series from Charles Soule is currently slated to drop on December 28.

Phase 2 of the High Republic publishing initiative takes place 150 years before Phase 1, and these videos are a great way to introduce casual readers to what’s going on. Be sure to also check out our latest review of Marvel’s relaunch of The High Republic comic series, featuring Jedha in a brand-new light as we barrel towards the next major chapter in this era. The Battle of Jedha audiodrama kicks off the new year on January 3, where most of these lingering plot threads will come together.

Stay tuned for more as we cover all the new books, comics, manga, and whatever else comes our way during this phase of the High Republic.
