Andor: Fiona Shaw Plays Cassian’s Adoptive Mother, Empire Magazine Reveals

We’ve known for a little while now that Irish actress Fiona Shaw will be playing a character called Maarva in Andor, but we knew very little else about the character.

Now, Empire Magazine has revealed that Maarva is actually Cassian’s adopted mother.

This would heavily suggest that Cassian’s real parents will die early on in the show, perhaps even in the first episode. Then when Cassian makes his way to his new planet, it may be that Maarva takes him in and raises him to adulthood.

Fiona Shaw (well known by Harry Potter fans for playing Harry’s Aunt Petunia) has only spoken briefly about her character before this, describing the state of her home when talking about the practical sets on location:

My character’s house is built from parts of old spaceships. I used to go out and just stare at it. Breathtaking.

She has also spoken to Empire a little about how Andor often mirrors real-world politics.

We’ll know for sure how Maarva becomes Cassian’s adoptive mother when the first three episodes of Andor drop on Disney Plus on September 21st.
