Damon Lindelof Regularly Spotted on Disney Lot; Reignites Speculation About Reported ‘Star Wars’ Project
Back in March of this year, it was reported that writer Damon Lindelof — whose credits include the likes of Lost, Prometheus, The Leftovers, and Watchmen (2019) — was potentially working on an unannounced Star Wars movie with Lucasfilm. More recently, a possible update to that rumor has surfaced, indicating that he has been working with Disney (and possibly Lucasfilm) since then.
Trusted film reporter Jeff Sneider revisited his prior report about Damon Lindelof taking a trip to the galaxy far, far away as a scoop for his website The Ankler. Here’s what he originally posted:

Five and a half months later, Sneider offered an update explaining that Damon Lindelof has been eating lunch on the Disney lot, despite his commitment to Mrs. Davis, a drama series for NBCUniversal’s streaming service Peacock. Check out Sneider’s comments below:

No filming schedule for Mrs. Davis has been revealed at this point, although the project is currently in the casting phase. This likely means that the Star Wars film scripted by Damon Lindelof will not arrive until several years from now, should it proceed.
At the moment, the future is unclear for Star Wars films. Fans have expected Lucasfilm to reveal news about their live-action productions at Disney D23 in the middle of next month, although there is no word if they will be presenting updates to their film slate. The film project indicated to be furthest in development is Taika Waititi’s Star Wars project that he is set to direct and co-write with Krysty Wilson-Cairns (1917), as the movie is expected to begin filming early next year. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is set to produce a Star Wars spin-off written by Michael Waldron (who he previously worked with on Loki and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) — and, given that Marvel and Lucasfilm are set to share a stage for a panel at D23, it is possible that an update on that film will be included as part of that presentation.
Other proposed films have run into snags. Rogue Squadron was originally set for a 2023 release, but the project is not likely to make that release date as development seems to have stalled; director Patty Jenkins appears to be focused on writing and directing a third Wonder Woman movie. Other question marks include Rian Johnson’s trilogy, which has gone a long time without a substantial update, a movie from director J. D. Dillard and writer Matt Owens that has been missing in action for a while, and the all-but-cancelled trilogy that was set to be written by Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, who left Lucasfilm to pursue a deal at Netflix. So the movie from Damon Lindelof will either join the list of stalled productions with the typical unforeseen complications that seem to come with Star Wars movies, or the writer of Lost might ironically become someone who helps chart a path for the future of Star Wars on the big screen.
As it stands, various untitled Star Wars movies are dated for December 22, 2023 (which is likely to be delayed and have its release date filled with another Disney movie), December 19, 2025, and December 17, 2027. Expect to see a lot more Star Wars television projects in the interim while Indiana Jones 5 represents Lucasfilm’s cinematic aspirations in 2023.
