Rick Famuyiwa Directed at Least Two Episodes of ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 3

In an interview from Star Wars Celebration that was recently released, The Mandalorian star and director Carl Weathers confirmed that Rick Famuyiwa, who has directed three episodes from the first two seasons, directed at least two episodes of the new season. During Celebration, Lucasfilm confirmed that Famuyiwa would be back as a director for season 3, and has also taken on a new role as executive producer.

When asked about diversity behind the camera, Weathers said:

“[…] And obviously we’ve got Rick [Famuyiwa], who’s here, who is behind the camera and an executive producer on our show, you know, who directed me on a couple of episodes of The Mandalorian this season… And I’m a huge fan.”

This has not been confirmed by Lucasfilm, but Carl Weathers has been one of our most trusted sources when it comes to news from The Mandalorian season 3. He was the first to confirm the September 2021 production start date, and he was also the first director confirmed for the new season. He also confirmed the news about the show’s production wrap in late March 2022. Every time The Mandalorian pops up in an interview, his face lights up, and we really don’t have any reason to believe he’s not right about this.

For now, we know that Weathers, Famuyiwa, and Bryce Dallas Howard will be directing episodes of season 3. It’s also very likely that Dave Filoni will be directing at least one episode, and we wouldn’t be surprised if Robert Rodriguez was back as well. We expect to learn more names in the next few months ahead of the series’ return early next year.
