Set five years before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars StoryAndor follows former Separatist turned Rebel Alliance operative Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) as he finds his place in the nascent Alliance to Restore the Republic, secretly led by Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly) and supported by the Partisan soldier Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker). Also confirmed to star are Stellan Skarsgård, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, Kyle Soller, Fiona Shaw, Robert Emms, and David Hayman. The show’s directors include Toby Haynes, Susanna White, and Benjamin Caron, with Tony Gilroy, Dan Gilroy, Stephen Schiff, and Beau Willimon set to write.

The series is set to release in two halves, the first of which will run through twelve episodes; the second half, made up of another twelve episodes, is set to begin filming later this year, covering the remaining four years in the lead-up to Rogue One, and concluding shortly before Cassian’s first scene in that film. K-2SO actor Alan Tudyk has confirmed that he will be sitting the first season out, but he plans to return to play Cassian’s smart-mouthed sidekick in the second half of the show whenever it returns.

The first season of Andor is currently slated to air on August 31, 2022 on Disney Plus.
