UPDATE! ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Getting Theatrical Screening With Live Q&A on June 22 at Cineplex

A new listing suggests that the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney Plus series has indicated that the show will get a limited theatrical engagement on the day of the finale for the limited series. It is currently confirmed that the series will play in Cineplex theaters in Canada, with a live question and answer session with people involved with the series.

Some fans with eagle eyes have noticed a special listing for an Obi-Wan Kenobi fan event at Cineplex theaters (hat tip r/StarWarsLeaks). According to the listing, the event will occur on June 22, 2022 – the day that the series finale airs – and will run for 5 hours and 20 minutes, presumably featuring all six episodes. In addition, there will be a live Q&A session with the cast and crew of the series, although who is participating is not clear at this time.

There are a lot of variables to think about here with that long runtime. Currently, the series has run at 3 hours and 5 minutes when you account for all of the pre-show (the “previously on” videos and the opening titles) and post-show (the standard credits and the credits for dubbing and subtitles) content, so that leaves 2 hours and 15 minutes unaccounted for. While this might suggest a pair of hour-long episodes are in store, that time likely also accounts for the Q&A session, with no word on how long that will be. On the other hand, we don’t know if this screening will be edited in a way to excise things like the recaps or reduce the overall credits for the series.

UPDATE!

Another screening, just focused on the finale and the Q&A, has been spotted on Cineplex’s website. This version of the event will run for 1 hour and 33 minutes and will not feature any of the preceding five episodes.

As it stands, there is currently no official press release about this screening, nor a list of participating locations. It’s also unclear if theater chains aside from Cineplex may be participating. We will keep you up to date on any and all happenings concerning Obi-Wan Kenobi as we learn of them.

Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi airs on Disney Plus on Wednesdays, with its first four episodes out of six available to stream right now. There has not been official word about a follow-up to the limited series, though Ewan McGregor has stated that he is interested in further exploring the character, and Lucasfilm is said to be discussing options.
