‘Andor’ Writers for Episodes 1-7 Revealed by WGA

While all eyes are on Obi-Wan Kenobi right now, one of the highlights of last Thursday’s panel at Star Wars Celebration was certainly the Andor trailer. In addition to showing a two-minute video that blew everyone away, Lucasfilm revealed that the first two episodes of the 12-episode first season will air on August 31st. Now, according to a WGA listing, we know who the credited writers will be for the first seven of the 12:

  • Tony Gilroy is the writer for episodes 1-4.
  • Dan Gilroy is the writer for episodes 5 and 6.
  • Stephen Schiff is the writer for episode 7.

Tony Gilroy is the showrunner of the series, in addition to the main writer. He was a key figure in getting Rogue One across the finish line, after was brought on during reshoots to steer the ship. His brother Dan, who wrote and directed Nightcrawler, is also writing at least two episodes. Stephen Schiff was supposed to be the showrunner of Andor before Tony Gilroy was brought on board (Gilroy is now credited as the creator too).

The second season of Andor will begin production in November, as Tony Gilroy confirmed at Star Wars Celebration. The first season will take place over one year in the timeline (5 BBY – 4 ABY) while the second season, also 12 episodes long, will cover the other four years leading up to Rogue One. With the Ahsoka series bringing the Ghost crew into live-action, we wouldn’t be surprised if either season of Andor (especially the second one) was cameo-heavy. Ian McDiarmid also hinted recently that he may be appearing in one of this year’s Disney Plus series, and given the appearance of the Imperial Senate in the teaser trailer, we wouldn’t be surprised if he did appear as the Emperor in the Diego Luna-led series.

The cast includes Diego Luna returning as Cassian Andor as well as Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma, Stellan Skarsgård as Luthan Rail, Adria Arjona, Denise Gough, and Kyle Soller. Nicholas Britell (Succession, Moonlight) will be composing the music.
