‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Volkswagen Ad Reveals Better Look at New Droid Character

A tie-in ad to the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series on Disney Plus showcases characters and locales from the new show, including a new droid character.

This morning, Volkswagen dropped a new advertisement showing the cast and crew of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series during the shoot featuring a Jawa, when the production wraps for the day. As our droid – R2-D2, C-3PO, and a new droid introduced in the series – make a move to leave the set, they mistake the company’s new electric car (which is parked inside the studio lot for some reason) for a new type of droid. Hilarity ensues as they look at the car’s features and compare them to their own. At the end familiar driver takes the wheel of the electric-powered car at the end as we’re reminded to watch the upcoming series and put money down for the new ride. Check it out below:

We were one of the first sites to tell you about the series introducing yet another adorable droid in the realm of Star Wars, with the inspiration for a certain character’s floating droid companion seemingly being after movies like Batteries Not Included. Given how this little drone is bound to sell loads of merchandise in the months ahead, it’s not super shocking to see that this new character is going to have a presence in the marketing in the lead-up to the show’s imminent release. In the meantime, though, it’s neat to see this thing in action ahead of the release of the series instead of in the post-release marketing.

Obi-Wan Kenobi will have its two-episode debut on Disney Plus on May 27, 2022, and will air its remaining four episodes on subsequent Wednesday nights. The series stars Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Rupert Friend, Sung Kang, Indira Varma, Kumail Nanjiani, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Simone Kessell, Benny Safdie, Maya Erskine, and Rory Ross.
