‘Knights of the Old Republic’ Remake Enlists Saber Interactive

The highly-anticipated remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is expanding its horizons behind the scenes as Aspyr Media has hired Saber Interactive to assist in the development of the title.

Push Square reports that, during a board meeting with Aspyr’s parent company Embracer Group, Saber CEO Matthew Karch has confirmed that his company will be collaborating with Aspyr on the project. Aspyr is no stranger to hiring new talent to help flesh out their first AAA original title, since the company also hired multiple people involved with the original Knights of the Old Republic games and the MMORPG spin-off The Old Republic. Here’s what Karch had to say with regard to his company’s involvement:

“Aspyr has gone full in to make this the best game that they can make. When we acquired Aspyr, we knew from the start that they would require our assistance. Saber has tremendous expertise in creating these types of products. We’ve done it on Halo – on multiple Halo products – we’ve done it on other titles that we’ve remastered over on other platforms.”

The Halo projects in question were Saber’s ports of the various titles in Halo: The Master Chief Collection (including Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, and Halo 4 — the port they were not involved in was Halo: Reach). Saber, like Aspyr, are predominantly known for their work with porting games, but they are no stranger to original titles, such as World War Z and the recent Evil Dead: The Game.

Karch has also indicated that news on the game will arrive at some point during “the coming months”, but did not offer a time frame. He noted that a lot of time and effort are going to be placed into the project to make sure that it lives up to the standards expected of it:

“We’re fully confident that the game is going to be fantastic but it’s a massive, massive product and massive products require a lot of effort and a lot of time to make good.”

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on the Knights of the Old Republic remake and other upcoming Star Wars games.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic – Remake is in development as a timed console exclusive for the PlayStation 5, with a port coming to Xbox Series X/S at an unspecified point after launch. For now, the PC release is said to be unaffected by this deal. No release date has been given.
