New ‘Star Wars’ Action-Adventure Game Coming from ‘Uncharted’ Creator Amy Hennig

If you’re still feeling hurt over the cancellation of Star Wars: Project Ragtag — tentative title — from EA’s (now defunct) Visceral Games years ago, we have good news.

Lucasfilm Games and Skydance New Media have jointly announced a new Star Wars action-adventure is in development, and none other than Uncharted creator Amy Hennig is helming the project — she was attached to Project Ragtag (concept art pictured above) since 2013 and until its demise. Here’s what she said about the new collaboration:

“I’ve often described how seeing Star Wars in 1977 essentially rewired my 12-year-old brain, shaping my creative life and future indelibly… I’m elated to be working with Lucasfilm Games again to tell interactive stories in this galaxy that I love.”

Indeed, she’s acknowledging the previous failed effort to craft a cinematic action-adventure set in the Star Wars galaxy. And Lucasfilm isn’t evading the matter either — Douglas Reilly, VP of Lucasfilm Games commented the following:

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to be working again with Amy. She and the Skydance New Media team have the talent and ambition to create a unique Star Wars adventure… Their vision for making narrative driven and engaging interactive entertainment makes this collaboration very exciting. We’re working hard with their team of experienced and talented developers, and we’re looking forward to sharing more with Star Wars fans when the time is right.”

Skydance New Media was formed in 2019 and aims to create interactive experiences for “traditional gaming platforms as well as emerging streaming services.” So far, the studio has assembled an impressive team of developers and artists with decades of AAA experience, as well as a diverse team of creative consultants from the worlds of film, television, games, and comics. In late 2021, the studio announced a partnership with Marvel Entertainment to “craft an all-new game with an original story and their unique take for beloved Marvel characters.”

This project joins an ever-growing slate of Star Wars video games after Lucasfilm Games was formed in early 2021 to shepherd a new era of projects based on the company’s IPs. The list of Star Wars games coming in the near future includes an open-world title from Ubisoft Massive and three different games from EA’s Respawn Entertainment, one of which is a follow-up to Jedi: Fallen Order that will supposedly be unveiled real soon.
