‘LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga’ Developers Answer Your Questions

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has released a final trailer in promotion of the game which was officially released today. Star Wars has also released a new interview from one of the developers of the game, providing new details about the process of building the most comprehensive Star Wars title yet.

Warner Brothers Games, TT Games, and Lucasfilm Games have dropped one last look at their new LEGO Star Wars title, which is far and away the most ambitious for the entire series after over 17 years and several installments. Adapting over 40 years of film, The Skywalker Saga allows players to experience the stories of The Phantom MenaceAttack of the ClonesRevenge of the SithA New HopeThe Empire Strikes BackReturn of the JediThe Force AwakensThe Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker for the first time in a single video game. There are several newly-revealed cutscenes here, alongside all-new gameplay that players will be able to experience for themselves. So, before you check out the interview below, here is the final trailer for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga:

The title, which has had an extended development cycle, has proven to be worth the wait, as players are able to fully explore 24 playable open world environments and several other locations from across the galaxy far, far away. Over 400 characters and over 100 ships await those who purchase the main game and its downloadable content. Also in store for players are 45 missions recreating key sequences from the films, and hundreds of optional puzzles and side-quests for the most dedicated players to complete. As you might imagine, there are no shortage of things to do as players take their first step into a larger world made out of plastic bricks.

To commemorate the release of the ambitious LEGO Star Wars experience, the official Star Wars website has sat down with TT Game’s own Dawn McDiarmid (no relation to a certain actor playing a certain Sith Lord) for a new interview revealing insights into the title. McDiarmid explained that one of the driving factors in designing a new game from the ground up was to provide players with the experiences that previous titles in the series glossed over:

“When we originally started creating the game, we really tried to tread on new ground wherever possible and incorporate content both old and new that we hadn’t looked at before… Alongside all the important story beats any fan would expect, from podraces to Rey Skywalker, this game is our biggest yet, featuring an entire galaxy’s worth of content for players to explore. Our team has a huge amount of Star Wars fans and everyone had opinions on what should be included and, thankfully, with multiple planets and nine films to explore, there was plenty of opportunity to include everyone’s favorite moments.”

Although the first seven installments of the Skywalker Saga were already adapted in the now-erroneously-named The Complete Saga and The Force Awakens, the developers chose to remake those experiences entirely in order to serve a newer, more modern approach to their LEGO games. However, this meant that the remaining two films, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, were never officially adapted by TT Games before. McDiarmid explained that it was especially important to cover new ground as faithfully as they did with earlier adaptations of the Star Wars movies:

“We approached the newer films in a manner similar to the old, with the far too detail-orientated eyes of a bunch of overzealous fans… Appreciating the universe and every character’s place inside of it, we approached the newer films with the whole saga in mind, taking care to fully settle them into the galaxy and melding all the trilogies to make sure the fans could fully experience the co-existence of these stories together.”

One of the biggest selling points to The Skywalker Saga is the inclusion of multiple hub worlds that allow for an immersive open-world experience that players can fully enjoy between levels. McDiarmid points out how the developers take pride in this aspect of the game and that exploring these worlds in detail is a big part of the fun:

“The worlds in The Skywalker Saga include so many of the places you have seen captured on film as vibrant, living worlds you can explore, creating one of the most immersive experiences in our games to date. You can run through markets on Uscru and straight onto the dance floor, visit a beloved character’s home, and befriend local creatures with some mind tricks. Players have never before been able to explore the Star Wars galaxy like this.”

Those are some of the more important details from the interview, and with those covered, we can get right back to playing The Skywalker Saga. After many years in development, the game is finally here!

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is now available for the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 video game consoles, along with Microsoft Windows.
