‘Star Wars: Andor’ Signs Nicholas Britell as Main Composer

Three-time Academy Award-nominated composer Nicholas Britell is coming to a galaxy far, far away. Film Music Reporter has found out that Nicholas Britell will be composing the music for the upcoming Rogue One prequel series Star Wars: Andor, starring Diego Luna. The show is currently in post-production and is targeting a July-September release of its twelve episodes on Disney Plus.

Britell is the mastermind behind the score of Succession, including its main theme, one of the most iconic television themes from the last few years. In addition, he also composed the music for Oscar-winning films like Moonlight and If Beale Street Could Talk, for which he was nominated. He is currently in contention for an Oscar this year for composing the score of Netflix’s Don’t Look Up.

This is a big get for Star Wars television. After the hiring of Ludwig Göransson to score The Mandalorian back in 2019, it looks like Lucasfilm are sparing no expenses on hiring the top composers of our time. It will be especially interesting to see who they tap to score the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series. News on that should be coming rather soon, as that show is coming out before Andor, on May 25th.

Star Wars: Andor will go back into production this fall for a second season. Stay tuned for more news on the series in the coming months.
