‘Ahsoka’ Adds Ray Stevenson to Cast as a Villainous Admiral (Not Thrawn)

Ray Stevenson, who previously took part in the Star Wars franchise with the role of Gar Saxon in Rebels and The Clone Wars, is returning to the franchise to play a different character in live-action for the Disney Plus limited series Ahsoka.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that the Vikings actor will be taking part in the Rosario Dawson-led Ahsoka, which will begin filming in April. At the time, his role is not fully clear, although insiders suggest that he is playing a villainous admiral of some kind – just not Thrawn, a character who is still expected to appear in the limited series and whose casting details have not yet been revealed. Barring the possibility of live-action flashbacks, it seems unlikely that he would also be portraying Gar Saxon thanks to events in Rebels, where he met his end at the hands of Sabine Wren (portrayed in this series by Natasha Liu Bordizzo). Also among the cast is Mary Elizabeth Winstead in an unknown role, Ivanna Sakhno in another unknown role (rumored to be a mercenary), and Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker, reprising his role from Attack of the Clones, Revenge of the Sith, The Rise of Skywalker, and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Ahsoka is expected to follow up on the epilogue of Star Wars Rebels, which is set years after the events of the main series and presumably after Ahsoka Tano’s guest appearances in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. That story left her, and Sabine Wren, one of the show’s central characters, off to search for Grand Admiral Thrawn, who was last seen having his ship hijacked into parts unknown by series protagonist Ezra Bridger. It is expected, but not officially confirmed, that Ezra and Thrawn will both make their live-action debuts in this series due to their importance in this open-ended storyline.

Ahsoka is expected to arrive on Disney Plus at some point in 2023. Filming begins in April 2022 in Los Angeles.
