‘The Old Republic: Legacy of the Sith’ Expansion Arriving December 14

The wait is almost over: the latest expansion to Star Wars: The Old Republic, known as Legacy of the Sith, arrives in less than a month.

While there has not yet been a new cinematic to hype up the forthcoming launch, EA has released a video recapping what they’ve done with this game so far as they present a brief hint toward the future:

Over the course of ten years, The Old Republic has had eight major expansions since its launch in 2011, each fleshing out this period of conflict following the initial launch of the game: Rise of the Hutt Cartel (2013), Galactic Starfighter (2014), Galactic Strongholds (2014), Shadow of Revan (2014), Knights of the Fallen Empire (2015), Knights of the Eternal Throne (2016), Onslaught (2019), and now, Legacy of the Sith (2021). And from the sounds of things, it seems like even more will come in the years ahead. Discussing the imminent arrival of the next expansion, project director Keith Kanneg has stated that the next expansion will serve as a foundation for the future of The Old Republic MMORPG, both as a celebration of what they’ve done in a decade and what they will continue to do for a very long time:

“This is the start of a year celebration. We have a whole year of activities planned that will spark a lot of conversation with players. The Anomaly will happen soon after the expansion. It was a plan to lay everything out to bring new technology updates to the game. We do have a 10-year-old game, so this is just the start. This is a foundation year for us. If we want to last another 10 years, we need to refine where we are going and what our story will be. This is the start for the next 10 years.”

The Old Republic remains the only major Star Wars Legends work to still receive ongoing support from the powers that be, and from the sounds of things, that will carry well into the future. As long as fans continue to support this title, BioWare will keep making more for it.

Legacy of the Sith launches on December 14, 2021. The base game for Star Wars: The Old Republic, alongside all expansions prior to the release of Knights of the Fallen Empire are free-to-play, while Knights of the Fallen Empire, Knights of the Eternal Throne, Onslaught and Legacy of the Sith require at least one month of Premium subscription, staying unlocked forever afterwards.
