UPDATE! First ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Sizzle Reel Arrives for Disney Plus Day

Ahead of the of the two-year anniversary of Disney Plus, footage from the official sizzle reel from last year’s Disney Investor Day surfaced online, showing how the team behind the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series prepared to revisit the character during the “Dark Times” of the Star Wars galaxy.

“There’s a hunger for this character to come back… The fans have been waiting long enough, you know?” – Ewan McGregor

“We couldn’t tell this story of Obi-Wan Kenobi without addressing Anakin or Vader.” – Deborah Chow

In a strange twist, an account uploading videos tied to Disney Plus Hotstar – an international version of Disney Plus – has released a behind-the-scenes look at Obi-Wan Kenobi a day before the Disney Plus Day presentation. It’s a brief sizzle reel that Disney investors saw on Disney Investor Day a year ago, although it’s only making the rounds now. Having been put together before production began on the series, no new footage was shown with the sizzle reel, but an abundance of concept art and a bit of training videos was included, along with short interview bites from lead actor Ewan McGregor and director Deborah Chow.

It appears that this was also the preview that they chose to reveal for Disney Plus Day. All the same, this is a really neat tease into the return of a beloved character and what his mission will be years after Revenge of the Sith and before A New Hope. Check it out below:

[UPDATE: The video has been taken down by Disney. That being said, the sizzle reel is now available to watch on Disney Plus. Nonetheless, you can check out concept art of the series below.]

The series wrapped production two months ago in Los Angeles, and we still have to wait a little while to see it, but we’ll take what we have for now. This is arguably the most highly anticipated Star Wars project of 2022, perhaps the most anticipated since The Force Awakens, and so far, it looks like it will deliver.

Obi-Wan Kenobi will reportedly consist of six hour-long episodes, written by Joby Harold, Hossein Amini, and Hannah Friedman, and directed by The Mandalorian‘s Deborah Chow. It will see the return of Ewan McGregor as the title character, as well as Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader, Joel Edgerton as Owen Lars, and Bonnie Piesse as Beru. It will debut next year, exclusively on Disney Plus.
