‘Star Wars: Visions’: First Look At Disney Plus Anime Anthology Series Revealed, Series Arrives This September

The first look at Star Wars: Visions has been revealed, showcasing a brief glimpse at the various animation studios that will get to craft new tales from across various time periods in the galaxy far, far away.

 

A recent panel, held today at Anime Expo, showcased content from the first-ever Star Wars anime series, Visions. The show will take an anthology format, telling potentially-canonical and non-canonical Star Wars stories from the perspectives of a variety of Japanese animators, much like previous anime anthologies based on American franchises like The AnimatrixBatman: Gotham Knight, and Halo Legends. Early on in the panel, a short video was displayed, showcasing the talent working on Visions and glimpses at their work:

For a rundown, the following anime studios are developing content for the first season of Visions:

  • Studio Colorido (Penguin Highway, A Whisker Away, Burn the Witch) will be developing the episode “Tatooine Rhapsody”.
  • Geno Studio (Genocidal Organ, Kokkoku: Moment by Moment, Golden Kamuy) will be developing the episode “Lop and Ochō”.
  • Kinema Citrus Co. (Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, Code:Breaker, The Rising of the Shield Hero) will be developing the episode “The Village Bride”.
  • Trigger Inc. (Kill La Kill, Little Witch Academia, BNA: Brand New Animal) will be developing the episodes “The Twins” and “The Elder”.
  • Science SARU (Lu Over the Wall, Devilman Crybaby, Japan Sinks: 2020) will be developing the episodes “Akakiri” and “T0-B1”.
  • Production I.G (Neon Genesis Evangelion: The End of Evangelion, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Psycho-Pass) will be developing the episode “The Ninth Jedi”.
  • Kamikaze Douga (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Batman Ninja, Sturgill Simpson Presents Sound & Fury) will be developing the episode “The Duel”.

All nine episodes of Star Wars Visions will begin streaming on Disney+ starting on September 22. Lucasfilm’s slate of other Star Wars shows includes the likes of The Book of Boba FettAndor, Obi-Wan KenobiAhsokaThe Acolyte, Lando, A Droid Story, and The Mandalorian, which is preparing a third season, along with The Bad Batch, which is currently airing. One previously-announced projectRangers of the New Republic, is currently not in active development.
