‘The Book of Boba Fett’ is ‘The Mandalorian’ “Season 2.5”; Mando Season 3 to Start Filming Late 2021/Early 2022

The Book Of Boba Fett
A new report provides production schedule updates for the Disney Plus shows The Book of Boba FettObi-Wan Kenobi, and The Mandalorian.

Collider has reported that The Book of Boba Fett has officially wrapped filming. The series is scheduled to debut this December exclusively on Disney Plus starring Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett and Ming-Na Wen as Fennic Shand. It has been filmed on the same stage as The Mandalorian, and the first season is said to be a sort of stopgap between the second and third seasons of The Mandalorian, even referred to as “The Mandalorian Season 2.5″ by Collider‘s sources.

Speaking of Mando, the show’s third season is still a while away, with Pedro Pascal recently revealing nothing has been filmed. A return date for The Mandalorian has not been provided by Lucasfilm, and Pascal’s commitment to HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us – which is set to film from July 2021 through June 2022 – means that Pascal’s schedule could have been a factor into the delay of Mando’s third season. Collider has heard indications that season 3 of Jon Favreau’s hit gunslinger series will begin filming either late this year or early next year, meaning that the show could potentially return in late 2022 at the earliest.

Another reason potentially factoring into why The Mandalorian is on hold is that the Obi-Wan Kenobi series is being filmed on the same LA stages used by The Mandalorian‘s first two seasons and the first season of The Book of Boba Fett. The Ewan McGregor led series is set a decade after the events of Revenge of the Sith and follows a crucial period in Obi-Wan’s life, ultimately culminating in what Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy called the “rematch of the century” between Kenobi and his fallen apprentice, Darth Vader. Obi-Wan Kenobi began filming in April and is expected to keep shooting for several more months. The show will air at some point in 2022 and is expected to be a limited series of six episodes.

Disney Plus continues to serve as the go-to place for future Star Wars content, given that the next film in the franchise – Rogue Squadron – won’t be arriving until December 2023. The Volume is crucial for the development of the new live-action Star Wars productions, and more sets have been (or are being) built around the world to expedite production of new projects for the big and small screens. Lucasfilm’s upcoming Star Wars streaming offerings include VisionsAndor, Ahsoka, Lando, The Acolyte, and A Droid Story, along with other possible shows that we don’t yet know about. One spin-off for The MandalorianRangers of the New Republic, has seemingly stalled development or is just not a priority for the time being, which is fairly understandable given the workload.
