‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ Did Not Impact or Alter Storytelling Points of ‘The High Republic’

According to Cavan Scott, one of the architects of The High Republic publishing initiative, while it is taking place at the end of The High Republic era, the upcoming Disney+ streaming series The Acolyte did not impact or alter the storytelling plans for The High Republic series of books and comics.

Cavan Scott, the writer behind the ongoing Star Wars: The High Republic Marvel Comic and the author of the upcoming The High Republic novel The Rising Storm, recently sat down for a podcast interview with Comicbook.com. He discussed the general plan of The High Republic publishing venture, which began earlier this year and is set 200 years before the prequel trilogy.

The Acolyte, announced at the Disney Investor Day, is being developed by writer Leslye Headland, perhaps best known for the Netflix series Russian Doll. The series, said to be a mystery-thriller, is set at the end of the High Republic era, leading some to speculate if the two are connected, or if The Acolyte impacted or altered any of the storytelling plans of The High Republic.

Scott said that isn’t the case:

“No, because I think we predated that ’cause we’ve been working on this for a good number of years now. So what happened was people were getting excited about The High Republic as we were creating it, which was great to see, and there have been all these other plans as well but the great thing that Star Wars is so good at is taking the ‘Things been worked on over here. This thing’s been worked over on here, so let’s bring it together.'”

When The Acolyte was announced in December, it was described as taking place at the end of The High Republic, though there could be tangential connections as there always tends to be in various Star Wars properties. That makes sense as the overall plan for the books and comics has been set out by the collective of writers, including Scott, Justina Ireland, Claudia Grey, Daniel Jose Older, and Charles Soule.

“I mean the High Republic as an era goes on for an awful long time, because, you know, it’s that period of time before the fall of the Jedi. And so, it’s been really exciting to sort of see other threads of Star Wars coming in as they’ve been developed as well and, and see us all working together to get to that for those final points. But yeah, it’s going be exciting isn’t it?”
