The Mandalorian: New Footage and Details of Assassin Fennec Shand Courtesy of Vanity Fair

The Mandalorian is a little over a week away from debuting on Disney Plus, and Vanity Fair‘s Anthony Breznican is here to sustain our appetites, introducing us to a new character and some new footage from the show!

The character is an assassin named Fennec Shand, played by Ming-Na Wen (Mulan, Agents of SHIELD), whom Pedro Pascal’s Mandalorian will come across about mid-way through this season. Here is the character’s first appearance, courtesy of this clip by Vanity Fair, in which the assassin tells the Mandalorian: “Your name will be legendary.”

Fennec Shand is a loner, a mercenary, looking out for the one person she trusts…herself. She is a bit like post-Solo: A Star Wars Story Han Solo in that way. Though the similarities end there as Shand has made a living killing on behalf of powerful crime syndicates.

“She is definitely someone who’s loyal to herself.” – Ming-Na Wen

The actress tells Breznican how they came up with the character’s name, based on her skills and personality.

“We got our inspiration really from the name. The idea of a fennec fox came to mind. She’s tricky, and yet she’s able to maneuver and survive, and be stealthy—so very graceful and agile. I just love that whole image with the name.”

The Mandalorian debuts next Tuesday, November 12, on the Disney Plus streaming service.
