‘The Mandalorian’: Disney Legend Ming-Na Wen Joins the Cast

The Mandalorian
Here’s an important little tidbit of information regarding The Mandalorian: longtime Disney actress – and newly-inducted Disney Legend – Ming-Na Wen is part of the show’s cast!

As she was initiated as a Disney Legend at D23 this afternoon (hat tip The Laughing Place), Disney CEO Bob Iger just confirmed that the actress, best known for her role in the 1993 The Joy Luck Club made by Disney’s now-defunct Hollywood Pictures label, for voicing Fa Mulan in Disney’s animated feature Mulan, and for portraying Agent Melinda May in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., will also get some more Disney cred very soon. Iger revealed that she would be part of the cast of Disney+’s first high-profile series, The Mandalorian.

On the first-ever live-action Star Wars television series, she’ll be joining the likes of Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano, Nick Nolte, Giancarlo Esposito, Carl Weathers, Emily Swallow, Omid Abtahi, Werner Herzog, Taika Waititi, Bill Burr, and Mark Boone Junior. Directors on The Mandalorian include Waititi, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa, Deborah Chow, and Dave Filoni. The series will be written and showrun by Jon Favreau, composed by Ludwig Göransson, and will have Greg Fraiser as cinematographer. The series will be executive produced by Favreau, Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson.

The show’s premise is as follows:

“After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.”

The Mandalorian Season 1 will be released on a weekly basis starting on November 12, the launch date for the Disney+ streaming service in the United States, Canada, and the Netherlands, with other markets getting the series as Disney+ expands internationally. No release window for Season 2 has been given.
