Could Frank Oz and Ewan McGregor Be Returning to Star Wars? We Think So…
Variety recently caught up with Star Wars veteran puppet master and voice talent Frank Oz to question him about his possible involvement in future Star Wars projects. When asked directly, Oz expressed that he has been asked not to talk about it, which in itself is a possible hint of his involvement. Meanwhile, in another corner of the galaxy, Obi-Wan Kenobi himself (Ewan McGregor), who is usually enthusiastic about Star Wars, also refused to answer any questions about his involvement in the franchise when questioned multiple times about it in a recent Reddit AMA session. Could the tight-lipped response of the two Star Wars alums be a hint to their involvement in the franchise moving forward?
From Variety:
Variety: There are reports that you might reprise Yoda in the new “Star Wars.”
Frank Oz: I feel like I’m a prisoner at war here, and I can only give you my name, rank and serial number. To be true to the people who asked me, and they are kind of my family, I have to say I’ve been asked not to talk about it. I love Yoda. I would be happy to talk to you about it at the time they let me.
As you can see Oz definitely knows something that he can’t share. As you probably remember, back in February 2016, Entertainment Tonight interviewed Maryann Brandon and Mary Jo Markey, the editors of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, who confirmed that Frank Oz reprized his role as Yoda for a cameo, but was ultimately cut from the film.
“There was one point where we were actually thinking of having Yoda in the film, and then we decided not to. Frank Oz came in for a day and did a whole bunch of Yoda and he was over the moon to do it — and we were tickled pink!”
We really hope this won’t be the case again for The Last Jedi, and we hope the rumors are true that members of the original Yoda team have been called in to work on Episode VIII, and that we will actually see Yoda in the movie as a Force Ghost.
Also Frank Oz briefly spoke about Rogue One and The Force Awakens.
Variety: Did you see “Star Wars: Rogue One”?
Frank Oz: I have not. I have my Academy DVD. Tell me something. How do people see everything?
Variety: But you did see “The Force Awakens”?
Frank Oz: I thought J.J. Abrams did a great job of synthesizing all this information. It was a tough thing for J.J. to be asked to do—to transition to a new family of “Star Wars” and still pay homage and respect to the others. It’s different from the way that George Lucas would have done it. George would probably have had a more overall arch that would follow the other stories and have a moral depth. But, my gosh, what J.J. did was really entertaining. It was so much fun.
In another unrelated story, actor Ewan McGregor remained surprisingly mum regarding Star Wars during his recent Reddit Ask Me Anything exchange. Ewan was answering questions about his new movie Trainspotting 2. He was asked numerous times about Star Wars and especially if he knows anything about an upcoming Obi-Wan spin-off movie. The actor didn’t reply to a single Star Wars question, which seemed a bit strange, having in mind that in the last couple of months he always expressed his opinion when asked about Star Wars and shared his excitement for a potential future movie and his return to the galaxy far, far away.
Of course we could be reading too much into this. After all, this AMA was about Trainspotting. But with the increasing amount of rumors about an upcoming Obi-Wan spin-off movie, one can only wonder if there is something more than meets the eye here. For what it’s worth, we recently heard from a source that things are starting to get in motion for the third Star Wars spin-off film. People are being called an so on. When we have more info on that we will let you know. Until then this movie is still a mystery.

Kenobi is a given…..
Not yet, it’s not.
Just a matter of time my friend. I’d say Celebration.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Ewan cameos as a force ghost in TLJ which then serves as jumping off point to his own film.
That would work for me. Would love to see Yoda & Obi-wan again in both formats, force-ghosts and in the flesh.
Re: “I wouldn’t be surprised if Ewan cameos as a force ghost in TLJ ”
I would be surprised.
I expect a CGI ( see Tarkin in Rogue One ) “old Ben” Force ghost.
Ewan, on the other hand, I expect in 3rd stand-alone SW “story” movie.
wouldn’t it be less of a bother to just make some minor digital touch ups to ewan, then create a full out cg character?
While Ewan was amazing as “young Obi-Wan” & a good fit for younger Alec Guinness, he doesn’t look enough like him for “old Ben”.
As well, the voice doesn’t match & you’d need a suitable voice actor – again, can’t recall the actor’s name but heard one recently who was spot on.
It would stand-out having a mis-match, Ewan’s “young Obi” voice & digital mash-up of “old Ben”.
Also, CGI:
1) they’ve already worked out a LOT with Tarkin
2) wouldn’t be as difficult/expensive as not as much to *match* with a Force ghost
I’d much prefer an “old Ben” that looks & sounds like him.
Then save Ewan for the “younger Ben” 3rd “story” movie.
[ side note: shivers… after you mention of digital mash-up, I just imagined a H.Christiansen+S.Shaw digital *mash-up* w/Hayden’s voice… ]
voice actor? but didn’t ewan already voice obi-wan in rey’s vision in TFA?
I’m talking about “old Ben” Force ghost idea. That would NOT match w/Ewan’s voice.
Stick with one or the other “old / younger”: If old – voice actor+digital recreation …if younger – Ewan.
However, unless this is just Rey’s visitation with “younger Obi”, it doesn’t make sense.
Obi-Wan appears to Luke as he did in OT – “old Ben”.
I also don’t want to see a Hayden as Anakin. For multiple reasons. And wouldn’t that just freak Luke out – who’s this young dude who looks nothing like my dad?
They just edited a line said by Alec Guiness in another movie.
i thought they only used sir alec for “Rey”, but the rest of the line was ewan.
Yes, I think you’re correct. I was talking about the “Rey” sample.
Or they could, you know, use makeup. I don’t understand the constant rush to “they could cgi him!” when, if you really, REAAAAALLLY wanted to go down that road, simple, time-proven makeup and prosthesis would be far cheaper and far more effective.
You’re preaching to the choir, bud. Just using that as an example.
Does anyone else think it’d be odd to see a young version of Obi-Wan as a force ghost? Given we’ve already seen Alec Guinness as a force ghost, I just always assumed the force ghost would look the same.
I hope the article is clear that these two bits of stories are for different Star Wars movies. Not only about The Last Jedi.
Yeah, I know. I’d just seen people happily accept McGregor as a force ghost, where I would find it strange.
I thought it was.
Seeing people jump to assuming it implied Ewan in TLJ surprised me. IF Obi-Wan shows up in TLJ, I’d not be surprised to see a CGI (Tarkin from Rogue One demonstrated) Force Ghost w/solid voice actor.
Seeing Ewan in the 3rd “SW Story” movie – that’s a dream come true!
I feel like they could digitally age Ewan to look very similar to guinness. It wouldn’t look as strange as tarkin since hes a ghost, so if it looks like he isn’t really there it isn’t a tragedy since he’s already an apparition
The difference won’t be nearly as stark as when they put Hayden at the end of Jedi. Plus Ewan is alive and willing, why not use him.
I’d just use his voice as a force ghost. Luke only ever knew Obi-Wan as Guinness, so I’d find it odd to have him stood next to McGregor
What if he appears to Rey, though?
I’d be happy with that
Voice over would work. But I think it’s only fair to Ewan to use his likeness if they want a ghost. He’s been the good soldier while sir Alec hated SW to end.
Well, to be totally fair, he hated what happened AFTER Star Wars was released. After the premier he actually wrote to a friend and said the film was great fun, a bit of light adventure, even if the final battle went on a few minutes too long. It was the constant association with what he, quite rightly, felt was a minor piece of work out of his resume, along with the fanaticism that the film inspired that seems to have really galled him.
Either way, I think you’d agree he probably wouldn’t want to be resurrected in a SW film.
They can could do a little cgi to age Ewan, should work well considering the force-ghost isn’t that clear. Plus he made have started to fade, so who knows.
Re: “Alec Guinness as a force ghost,”
Force ghosts are already fuzzy/less detailed than other characters, so the flaws of CGI versions could be less noticeable.
I’d suggest a CGI version, like Tarkin in Rogue One, with a great voice actor (forgot name, but heard one recently doing “old Ben”).
I’m not sure how it would go over or even how i’d feel about it, but they could establish that force ghosts appear as different phases of their life in different apparitions, hence the ‘young’ anakin vs. the ‘old’ obi-wan and yoda. You could have a scene where they recreate guiness’ likeness and one where he shifts to ewan mcgregor’s appearence. Heck if you wanted to go crazy you could have hayden appear and morph to look like shaw. Probabbly would never happen but it would be a simple work-around to finally shut up most of the arguing and the blu-ray edit of the force ghost. Regardless of what happens I just hope they give us a little more clarity into force ghosts. The ways in which force ghosts can appear or intervene in things are so murky and poorly defined (and not in the cool way) that it just leads to a lot of lore confusion, especially back in the old EU days when sith could become force spirits.
I hope the whole trio of ghosts appear in the last Jedi!
Sebastian Shaw and Sir Alec Guinness are dead, so we’ll have to make due with just Yoda.
Hayden I’m sure will step up.
Please no. From my point of view, Hayden Christiansen is evil.
He’s been quite a competent actor when working with other directors, so I’d love him to get some redemption with the less forgiving part of the Star Wars fandom.
Then there’s also the matter of his appearance actually making sense at this point. He had been considered for TFA if the film’s production art is anything to go by, and would nicely fill in the void of familial figure trying to sway Ben from the dark side left by the unfortunate passing of Carrie Fisher.
Re: “are dead, so we’ll have to make due with just Yoda”
Well, Peter Cushing was dead too for Rogue One.
Fair point…
tbh the 2011 edition estabilished that Anakin’s force ghost features his young self, so we’d be getting Hayden anyways
I know of no such edition. Nope. Never seen it. Never heard of it.
Special Edition = NOT. MY. STAR WARS.
#NotMyStarWars
No one cares
Peter Cushing is dead, yet he appeared in Rogue One so if they were REALLY obsessed with recreating Guiness’ obi-wan they could, but they won’t. Regardless of how you feel about the prequels, I have a very strong feeling that Ewan Mcgregor will be picking up the mantle from Guinness as old obi-wan withing the next 5 years. Hayden appearing as Anakin is still divisive, but its certainly a very real possibility.
I don’t really care what the force ghosts look like personally. My only hope is that they don’t decide to re-write the lore or change the story from their original idea just to work around fans who don’t like Hayden. Anakin is one the main characters of star wars, and in a movie pivoting on the legacy of the skywalkers, it would make sense for Anakin’s ghost to appear in it. If that was never the intent that is fine too, but i would hate to think someone had a great idea that was scrapped to appease a demographic of fans.
I know Ewen McGregor. He was in trainspotting, right? But who is this Hayden you speak of?
KENOBIEEEEEEEYAHHHHHHHHH -Maul/Disney’s Bob Iger when asked what the next Star Wars Story will be
Forward…. forward…. move the story forward.
Please.
Am I the only one who saw the pic before the headline and thought Frank Oz had passed?
I think the same thing every time they post a picture of John Williams.
I think the same thing any time anyone even MENTIONS Stan Lee.
Yeah, I did. Also, strangely I used to think Frank Oz and Frank Zappa were the same person. I only found out otherwise when someone mentioned Zappa and I said, I haven’t heard much of his music, but I love Yoda…
Not much to speculate about, they are totally going to do an Obi-Wan movie. It’s not only a very popular idea but Ewan is on board. It’s a no-brainer. If Disney doesn’t do this I would be very surprised and a bit disappointed with their decision making prowess.
Let’s hope they do it and do it right…but never underestimate the potential of Disney to make a bad decision.
Yeah, I feel you. We’re probably looking at something like “The Adventures of R5-D4”.
If it’s that then they better canonize the old Star Wars Tales comic so it can be”The adventures of Skippy the Jedi-Droid”.
Is there any chance that Obi-Wan could get a trusty bantha by his side in this potential spin-off film? A Jedi needs some flashy transportation to get around those sand dunes. Who’s with me?
Re: “any chance that Obi-Wan could get a trusty bantha by his side in this potential spin-off film? ”
Bantha? Wacky!
An Obi-wan Spin off would be cool … but it needs to be small. And about Obi-wan having to rely on not using the force in spite of all temptations. That would make it something interesting and different. For instance, he has to pick up a blaster instead of a lightsaber. Rely on old trusty contacts and make new ones. A story involving smugglers or something down and dirty.
I don’t blame Ewan for not wanting to go down the rabbit hole with SW questions, though.
A ‘Kenobi’ Star Wars version of ‘Logan’, dark and gritty on Tatooine, dealing with a threat to the Lars family and thus keeping Luke safe from harm.
Maybe Uncle Owen had a gambling problem and so never turned a profit on those moisture vaporator, for ever gambling away the earnings (hence couldn’t afford to hire help or purchase good droids, thus needing Luke to always work that one more season).
” A ‘Kenobi’ Star Wars version of ‘Logan’, dark and gritty on Tatooine,

No. Don’t want too dark and gritty. Also, that idea has been done to death already.

Not sure if you intended it or not but that is hilarious!
Yeah it was tongue in cheek humour.
I also wouldn’t want it Logan ‘dark & gritty’, it is after all Star Wars 🙂
Is Frank Oz insulting JJ here?
Yeah but if George had made it — Rey would have been an 8 year old and the movie would have been a CGI-disaster-area.
Because that’s what Luke and Leia were? No, it’s already been stated they were teenagers and JJ made them a bit older. But Luke and Leia were teenagers in ANH. Leia was written as being 16, after all.
I thought she was 19, like Luke.
You have learned much young one.
According to the ANH script, I believe, she was 16. Of course that all changed later on when the timeline got “adjusted.”
And Carrie Fisher certainly didn’t look 16.
True, but when has that ever stopped Hollywood from casting adults to play teenagers?
George said it was about young people in their early 20s,řso please stop making faerytales here..
George changes his narrative to contend with the complaints.
I think after all he had been through…the awesome to the cringe worthy moments that he would have been primed with the big “3” to have given us a Epic return with his version of the sequel.
I look at the worst parts of the Clone Wars and Crystal Skull as a whole and thank God he didn’t do it Cw. I know you’re a big fan, I know you want him to have been able to give us something good.
But. Eh.
Lucas mentioned in an interview that it would not have been like TPM in regards to the kids ages, but late teens or early 20’s. I think he would have made huge improvements from the prequels. By ROTS, he was back in pretty good form.
Early teens is everything we have heard about it.
or early 20’s
“[Abrams] said Lucas’s treatment had centered on very young characters—teenagers, Lucasfilm told me”
interview with Lucas,,,he says late teens early twenties.
Lucas is not always the best source for the truth. But maybe it’s somewhere in the middle.
lol, you may be right on that !
“I think he would have made huge improvements from the prequels. By ROTS, he was back in pretty good form.”
I love that so many fans whine about TFA not meeting their fantasies and then go “RotS of almost bearable, so I’m sure Lucas’ Episode VII would have been PERFECT!”
I don’t think so.
Not perfect I’m sure, but I’m confident that it would have been better….we’ll never know.
Unfortunately, we will never know what Lucas intended us to get(the mouse will make sure of it)…but, I’d bet money that it involved the kids from the EU and would’ve been more cohesive than the mess that 7 was.
I get that you hate TFA because it ignored the EU (based on your avatar pic), but I wouldn’t call 7 a cohesive mess.
Also, it may come out one day… even if it’s unofficially.
Well, that’s a small part of it…but I was open if the story would have tied in better with the overall arc of the original 6. Instead, we got a greatest hits, remake of sorts. Here’s to hoping that 8 will correct it from a story perspective.
Ewan is a nice guy but I want “OLD BEN” in The Last Jedi. An Alec Guiness CGI Force Ghost could provide a far more emotionally-engaging & iconic moment than Ewan.
Alec Guiness has been dead for years.
And so had peter Cushing, to be fair.
Exactly! I think he looked fine in Rogue One. Not spectactular, not perfect, not indistinguishable from Peter Cushing as a live actor, but he did look good. Besides, he needed to be in the story or else it woudln’t make any sense. They were ambitious and it worked pretty well I think. It wasn’t perftect, but it is things like these that advance the technology.
Who says they aren’t just using Ewan’s voice over for him? I really disliked how they put prequel era Anakin in as the force ghost in jedi, but we have already established Obi-Wan’s ghost was when he was older, they can’t change the visual aspect I don’t think
I would much rather have the guy that actually played Obi than some random cgi monstrosity like Tarkin.
Not really. You are anti-everything PT, even the best thing from it.
You refer to Wald, of course.
I refer to Ben Quadrineros and nothing else
“A CG recreation of an actor would provide a far more emotionally-eng…” you know what? I just can’t. The stupid is just too staggeringly powerful there.
Obi movie: Qui Gon teaching Obi how to live as force ghost, Yoda chilling in the background drinking a cup a coffee. “A force ghost….you will be” ( voice change from return of the Jedi)
Qui Gon has a very particular set of skills, skills he acquired over a very long career…..
I didn’t care for Ewan McGregor as Obiwan. I think if they were to reboot I-III (which I hope and pray they do) and do a spin-off, the perfect actor would be Stuart Townsend. He even looks like Alec Guiness to me.
Hate to be the one to break it to you. They are not going to reboot l-lll. That was one of the strict agreements Lucas had for Disney. They are Canon.
On second thought I loved breaking it to you.
Really? You have a copy of the contract???!!!!! JESUS, SHARE IT MAN, SHARE IT!!!!!!!!
to answer your question no.
if you want it , Lucas Film is in San Francisco and Disney is in Berkley California im sure they can hand you a copy.
im not going to be looking for it for you. you seem to know how to use the Internet.
lastly: the main people at Lucas Film know George’s wishes and they respect them, and they will voice them to Disney. im talking about Kathleen Kennedy, Lawrence Kasdan, Dave Feloni, and Pablo.
it is in the contract, use the internet and find it.
good day sir.
Soooo…you just pulled that nonsense out of your behind. Gotcha.
You didn’t “get” me cause you can’t use the internet
Let me make this a little easier for you. The contract is NOT publicly available, You made that up and tried to pass it off as a fact. If it WERE available, we wouldn’t have the constant speculation about what the details are, because people would, you know, go read the thing. To reiterate you made something up, then tried to pass it off as fact. Further, people at LFL may know Lucas’ wishes (if, indeed, he expressed any after he washed his hands of the whole thing), but Disney has been quite clear that, while they respect his contribution, this is their show now. Pablo and whoever the fuck you want to try and claim are representing Lucas’s interests notwithstanding.
i”ll make it easier on you. You still don’t know how to properly research on internet. I didn’t say anything about the contract being publically available.
You want the fact look more into it. It’s on the internet. I’m not going to be looking for you.
He’s banned from being within 1000 yards of young Ewoks.
You better pray for something that will actually happen.
lol… Star Wars will never be apart of the current ‘Reboot’ craze.
Well…now we know to ignore Rink forever.
Freddie Prince and Donnie Yen should play force ghosts that keep bumping into things.
#blindjedismatter
So I’m pretty sure Ewan would would just be involved for the voice over portions because Obi-Wan is already established as his older version as a ghost but.. I think I’d geek out in the theater seeing young obi-wan again. I don’t want it to happen, but it’d make me happy to see at the same time.
I wonder if the force ghosts are manifested “from a certain point of view” ? Like we’ve only seen the force ghosts from Luke’s view, so does that mean they would appear differently to Leia or Rey?
Hayden as a force ghost might get kinda rapey/creepy around Rey:
“You grew up around sand? I grew up around sand too. Obi-Wan learned how to sit on a swamp log, but I can show you how to sit on my swamp log.”
And then Rey says, “Fuck this noise, I’m going home — you can stay the last Jedi, Pops, and keep talking to your invisible friends”.
I like the thought that Force Ghosts can manifest in any form. Obi-Wan is both a voice and an old man, while Anakin is a young man. So Obi-Wan could be a young man as well.
Anakin was an old man at the end of ROTJ. The later adjustment to match the prequels is ridiculous and Doesnt really count.
Well it’s canon, so that’s what we have to go on.
Well, by that logic they both are. Return of the Jedi is a movie that was written, shot, edited, and released to the public as a final movie in 1983. George Lucas got caught up in constantly changing something that was already finalized and released to the public, so I don’t really consider that the original work of art. If you enjoy “Special Editions” and re edits that are now considered the intended final work, have fun with it. Me on the hand, if an older man was in the original release of a film … that’s what was originally intended. Canon shanon, I’ll just go with common sense and good taste.
also, this is written with a tone of humor. I’m not here to sh*t talk on message boards.
Well YOU might, but the lore won’t follow you. I think the originals are totally superior to the Special Editions, but it’s not a question as to what’s canon and what’s not. Sadly, no one but Lucasfilm can ever change that.
Just a thought, but has no one else considered its another force/flash back and Obi-wan is seen in his youth, aka Ewan.
If they do a Yoda Force Ghost…. I want a ROTJ duplicate puppet!
Ps2 video game cut scene lol.
I WANT IT!
Because of how dreadful puppet Yoda was in TPM, I surely hope that if they use a puppet, it is sprinkled with CGI goodness, like Unkar Plutt in TFA.
I thought Unkar looked awful too…but, definitely a hybrid would be preferred for Yoda!
I agree that I’d prefer an all-CGI Yoda. If you compare the puppet to CGI in the first council scene in TPM, it is amazing to see Yoda actually “act” in the CGI version — including a very subtle look at Mace indicating a bit of suspicion. By the time they got to ROTS the CGI was astounding. Check out the detail near the end when Yoda is alerted to the arrival of Obi-wan. He slowly opens his eyes, which are revealed to be a bit bloodshot. Just great stuff that is impossible with a puppet. And the arms-hands of any puppet always drive me crazy how fake they look.
That Yoda was a puppet wasn’t the problem. The problem was an absolutely appalling sculpt that looked nothing like the character.
One day I was walking and I found this big log
Then I rolled the log over
And underneath was a tiny little stick
And I was like, “That log had a child!”
“It’s different from the way that George Lucas would have done it. George would probably have had a more overall arch that would follow the other stories and have a moral depth.”
-Frank Oz
This so this. Don’t get me wrong, I like the Force Awakens a lot. But it does have the feeling of being made by a committee for the masses. I can’t put it on the same level as TP and OT its just not as authentic of art to me.
Maybe I’ll feel differently once I see the whole Trilogy though. I hope so!
R1 did to a degree but it had more rewatchability to me and felt like an actual part of the saga even though it was a spinoff.
I agree, I wouldn’t ever put TFA on the same level as the prequels.
I’d never insult TFA like that.
The story of a little slave boy who fell in love with a girl and did terrible things out of fear and loss that was later redeemed by the son he didn’t even know existed. An Original story written and told by George Lucas.
I don’t know, as much as I LOVE LOVE LOVE TFA and Rogue One. I see them as good movies where I view the first six as high art something perhaps on the same level as the bible or Shakespeare in terms of literacy importance and greatness.
“The story of a little slave boy who fell in love with a girl and did terrible things out of fear and loss that was later redeemed by the son he didn’t even know existed. An Original story written and told by George Lucas.”
It sounds good on paper, but it was executed terribly.
“I view the first six as high art something perhaps on the same level as the bible or Shakespeare in terms of literacy importance and greatness.”
Mmm…no. I wouldn’t even put the OT on the same level of “high art and influence” as Shakespeare. The PT is just so poorly, written, directed, acted, and executed in almost every way that I wouldn’t even put it on the same level as Rick and Morty or the average Netflix show (NOTE: Rick and Morty is fantastic).
Keep in mind these are just my opinions, but still.
There were some issues in individual episodes but it doesn’t dampen reverence for the 6 episode Saga.
It dampen sthe first half of said saga, for me at least. The second half (the OT) is still great, though.
If it is true, I’m curious if they will use CGI or a puppet. There is grave danger in using either, but if it fails they can always blame it on Russian hacking…
I’d be more excited if he was reviving the puppet but last time they asked him about he seemed like a cheerleader for the CG version since it freed him up to do the voice work. He is damn old so I can see why but he could just get his understudy to do it.
I’d like to see a balance between the two…
I would expect an animatronic puppet — not a rubber hand-controlled puppet — enhanced with CGI.
I would love to see both actors reprise their roles. This will tie all three trilogies together.
so true
Shots fired. Frank Oz talking some shit about TFA.
Not many directors could pull off a masterpiece like Bowfinger.
Lol.. Bowfinger isn’t anywhere close to a masterpiece but I enjoyed it. Has some laughs, but I’m partial to Steve Martin.
edit: I assumed you were being sarcastic with the whole masterpiece thing, but maybe I misjudged?
Not many directors could pull off a masterpiece like What About Bob
I do like What About Bob too…so stupid. I’m an 80’s kid and Murray starred in it. Good stuff.
The Stepford Wives (2004) has gotta be the one that breaks you
Oh yeah, that movie was shit.
Dude Bowfinger is AWESOME. He also did What About Bob? And Dirty Rotten Scoundreis… so year, he’s pretty great.
Little Shop of Horrors and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.
Nuff said. Your reductive trolling has been nullified!
You could’ve done it with just one of his films….
(Hint: his very first one)
A cult hit and one I love, but not universally acclaimed. I had to go with the sure things haha.
That’s not talking shit, it’s a reasonable, if somewhat diplomatic, assessment. Abrams made a…FUN movie. Any given moment in that film is fun, when taken in isolation. In fact, it’s just so MUCH FUN (!) that it never takes time to breath or develop a rhythm. It also doesn’t feel like it’s got any overarching ideas or theme, or emotional journey, so it doesn’t amount to anything aside from “FUN! CONSTANT DELIGHT!”.
Chill man, It was meant to have some levity. Doesn’t really come across though.
Lots of itchy trigger fingers in this house.
Well he certainly has the right, seeing as he played a huge part in the masterpiece known as Return of the Jedi….
Live Long and Prosper.
Love the comment about TFA…spot on! Still hoping 8 will bring some depth of story and kill off some of the lesser characters that should have died in the last one. High hopes for 8!
Wasn’t there already a rumor report that the reason we haven’t heard anything about an Obi-Wan stand alone film yet is because Obi-Wan is expected to play a fairly large role in EP 8 and Ep 9.
yes
Gallius Rax is Snoke too. I heard becuz he tell me. 🙂 Thanks for the non-update.
“George would probably have had a more overall arch that would follow the other stories and have a moral depth. But, my gosh, what J.J. did was really entertaining. It was so much fun.”
.
Frank gets it.
Literally the best description of TFA i could imagine lol
Frank is a savage. All TFA had was hype and entertainment.
If that is not confirmation, I don’t know what is
just a thought: Force ghosts can probably appear in any form they choose.
It will be interesting to see how they bring in old characters. In the comics Luke has a bound journal of Obi-wan. What if Luke also has some holo-recording of the younger Kenobi (like the warning to avoid the temple)? There’s a few ways that they could do it, but Yoda should definitely be a force ghost.
They’re going to have a cgi Alec Guinness morph into Ewan McGregor. Old Obi-Wan ghost will turn younger.
Why? That won’t be needed at all.
I didn’t say it was needed but I bet that’s what they’re going to do.
Snoke is Obi Wan and Yoda’s child CONFIRMED.
