Battlefront: Ultimate Edition Trailer Teases Scarif Expansion, Gets 33% Discount.

Was Star Wars Battlefront‘s initial price tag for the base game and the season pass (a whopping $120) a little too much for your wallet to handle? Fear not – Battlefront: Ultimate Edition will collect all the game’s content under a single package at $80, with both free and paid DLC included. If you purchase this package now, you can play the Rogue One: Scarif expansion a few weeks before everyone else does.

Technically, the Ultimate Edition was available on day one – that being said, none of the DLC expansions were being sold at that time, and the Rogue One tie-in soon will be, which is why they’re advertising it now. The official Battlefront website has details on that particular expansion:

We’re happy to finally announce new details on Star Wars Battlefront Rogue One: Scarif, which arrives for all Season Pass owners on December 6. The fourth and final digital expansion pack gives you access to new content inspired by the upcoming film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, arriving in theaters on December 16. In Rogue One: Scarif you’ll battle across four new maps, including the sandy beaches of Scarif – an all-new tropical planet crawling with Imperials – which should look mighty familiar to anyone who saw the movie trailer. Know that incredible scene in the trailer where the AT-ACT is marching through the waves? That’s the one! Joining the battle are two new playable heroes: Jyn Erso and Orson Krennic, as well as a new multi-stage game mode with space and ground combat. Take your first look at the artwork for the upcoming expansion pack above, and get ready for an epic Star Wars adventure on December 6 in anticipation of the new film.

Also arriving on December 6 is the Star Wars Battlefront Rogue One: X-Wing VR Mission for PlayStation VR. This free DLC gives you control of your very own X-wing in fully immersive virtual reality – brush up on your piloting skills, stay on target, and prepare to jump through hyperspace as you carry out an important mission for the Rebellion.

In addition, Battlefront players who do not have the Season Pass can access a free trial of the currently-available expansions from now until the end of the weekend.

For those keeping count at home, this means that the complete Battlefront experience will feature 36 maps, 14 gameplay modes (one of which is for Scarif and has yet to be fully revealed) and 14 heroes – quite a difference between the game’s 12-map, 9-mode, 6-hero launch. And since the game’s sequel will have much of this content to serve as a strong foundation for the franchise going forward, it’s likely that there won’t be a repeat of this game’s highly-criticized launch lacking in content.

Battlefront: Ultimate Edition, along with the Battle Of JakkuOuter RimBespin, and Death Star expansions, are out now. The final expansion – Rogue One: Scarif – will be arriving on December 6 for those who have the Season Pass or the Ultimate Edition, and on December 20 for everyone else. The sequel to Battlefront is projected to arrive around this time next year.

What a bunch of greedy a-holes. Trying to scrape another buck out of everyone. I bought the regular game with the season pass but I won’t get scared early without paying more. EA sucks

Okay maybe I jumped the gun on being upset; looks like it’s available on 6 December. But still, this is the game that should’ve been released a year ago

If you got the Season Pass, you get early access to Scarif. Apologies if my wording on that threw you off.

i bet the people who spent the 120 bucks on the season pass feel great about this move. lol. on the bright side the rogue one expansion has the potential to turn things around on the content front.

Well, they have been playing it all for months already, so they have already gotten some worth out of it. Depends on the person. I didn’t, though. Eff that.

There’s been plenty of content in the game since the winter. It launched light, they added new maps within a month, then more in another two months free. With the launch of the first DLC came the Hutt contracts some of which were free and did not require the DLC to purchase.

The game had the problem of splitting up the player base within it with far too many game modes instead of say, just focusing on big maps. It launched with 11 or 12 maps, but some of those were small for the smaller game modes.

That, and it was more than a little casual which they thought was a good idea based on the diversity of the entire Star Wars fan base, rather than Star Wars gamers.

This game wasn’t half as bad as people like to make it out to be. I bought the game, and the DLC’s as they came out. I have over 120 hours in it, and had a lot of fun (and frustration) playing.

The game was rushed, they should have launched it this year instead of last, which is why it came out the way it did. And it’s EA, I don’t really ever like to defend them because, you know, it’s EA.

But I still think DICE made a solid Battlefront game. I played the originals, I loved them, but I will always state they were and still are complete crap. They were poorly designed, limited by the technology of the next generation consoles they were released on cross platform, and the game play was far more casual and simplistic then what has been implemented in this newer version.

Also the expectation that this new Battlefront would have to have EVERYTHING the old one’s did plus some is ludicrous. Especially since BF2 was just a light reskin of one with some additional maps thrown in together with some slightly updated versions to BF1’s.

I know the game isn’t perfect, but it’s not bad. It’s decent. The butthurt unloaded on it was seriously unjustified. IMO.

Flame on. I know it’s coming.

I disagree that it’s garbage, I think it’s more mediocre than anything else. I’ve had a lot of fun playing it and I am very critical of games.

          It is very pretty.

They added content but it’s all pretty mediocre imo, especially the death star dlc. I shouldn’t be bored playing a star wars game.

a pretty half assed space battle. the death star level in rogue squadron two was lightyears better and that was like 15 years ago. i hope others got more enjoyment out of it than i did.

To be fair, who thought EA WOULDN’T eventually offer a discounted full package? That’s just the way games are sold today.

I’ve been waiting for this game to do a platinum release because I think at launch it was pretty pitiful, but now has content to be worthwhile. But it’s still $80? I guess it makes sense because the Rogue One DLC just came out and it needs to tack that cost onto the base game. I’m kinda disapointed, but not surprised by EA. Looks like I’m waiting longer for it

Ah, yes, sorry, thought you were suggesting the $40 price tag was a BF special. No doubt. Sadly, limiting the vast majority of the game play to online only for no particular technology reason, it’s still a pass for me.

IDK, it was fun, became more fun with all the DLC & will become even more fun to play with the new Rogue One content. Clearly, it isn’t the best game ever made, but it is the most detailed interactive Star Wars experiences you can have. It took me right back to playing with Kenner toys as a kid in the 70’s. The fact that it’s going on sale near the end of its run as a current release is no big deal — all games do that. Most double and triple dip with enhanced versions.

Battlefront and Battlefront 2 give me that feeling, only there’s a huge variety of maps, more and more varied vehicles to fully control, the gameplay doesn’t boil down to “spawn kill die spawn kill die spawn kill die spawn kill die” in rapid succession, and I don’t have to play online against people either way, way better than I am, or intent on acting like asshats. Those games, despite being over a decade old now, still get semi-regular workouts on the 360.

I get what you’re saying. I’m not a gamer, so my perspective is probably different than yours. I like the look of the new version much better than Battlefront 2 or any other SW game since the ESB side scroller I played as a kid – or the green vector graphic arcade game. Which makes sense given the years worth of additional artistry.

I actually like the social aspect of the game. Real opponents make sticking with one strategy impossible. I don’t play a lot, maybe that’s why I’ve only run into one a-hole who was acting all pissy about my snow speeder skills.

Anyway, I play for the nostalgia.
