It’s Not Wise To Upset A Wookiee: New ‘The Force Awakens’ Blu-Ray Deleted Scene Details

deleted-scene

An all-new never-before-seen deleted sequence from Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been revealed via EW. The scene involves the junk dealer Unkar Plutt, Rey and one big “walking carpet”. Read on for more!

Entertainment Weekly has a first look at a new ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ deleted scene that will be included in ‘The Force Awakens’ 3D Collector’s Edition Blu-ray, due for release on October 31 and arriving in the US on November 15th. The four-disc collection features hours of brand-new bonus material that includes additional deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes conversations with cast and crew, and never-before released audio commentary by director J.J. Abrams.

In this never before seen, deleted footage, Unkar Plutt makes his way to Maz Kanata’s castle in an attempt to reclaim his stolen property – The Millennium Falcon. You probably remember that one of our readers have revealed this scene to us back in the day even before the movie was released.

In the sequence Plutt threatens Rey, and everyone’s favorite Wookiee steps in to share his thoughts and growls regarding the situation. Without giving the scene away before you watch it, let’s just say that Chewie gets his point across in a very Wookiee way….

Check out the clip below:

This should have been in the film. I’m eager to see if in the “DELETED SCENES” we also get the LUKE vs VADER sequence which was idiotically deleted from Rey’s Forceback Vision. In the original Forceback Vision, REY actually sees Luke vs Vader (from Ep 5) & Luke getting his hand cut off from a DIFFERENT ANGLE than the one used in Ep 5. I’m still shocked & appalled that such an emotionally-engaging 10 seconds was edited out.

Maybe the people who saw it and made it felt it didn’t come off right.

Maybe. But it would have made the convoluted Forceback vision much more meaningful. The last time that LightSaber was in a Jedi’s hand – was when Luke’s hand was cut-off —- so it makes sense that she would see that when connecting to the LightSaber / Force. When the toys for TFA were released, there was even a Bespin-Luke and Vader, in the set — b/c that scene WAS in the film.

Yes, I know about the toys. But maybe it wasn’t needed and the vision was still plenty meaningful without it. Would have been cool to see, though

It would have made the vision far more meaningful — seeing Rey in a Bespin-hallway did nothing — as most of the audience watching didn’t even realize that was Bespin.

Because it wasn’t really needed to know it. They originally edited that scene where it took all the mystery out and opted for more vagueness. We will find out if that was smart or not.

Also no one in the theater could hear Obi Wan say “REY” — the audio was so muffled. Would have been more powerful if we had SEEN a quick flash of Ben saying it.

It’s possible that Rian asked them to remove that because of something he has planned for Rey & Luke’s interactions on Ach-To.

That scene never got past the concept stage. Nothing was actually filmed for that, nor did any existing Empire footage make that scene possible without shooting something new.

The CGI on the scene was not completely finished, if that’s what you’re complaining about – they only complete the VFX for scenes that are intended to be in the theatrical cut.

Hence the deletion from the movie. I know everyone gets interested in seeing deleted scenes, but most of the time, they were cut for good reasons.

Just like the deleted scene where they confront the stormtroopers under Maz’s castle. Overplayed the comedy. Didn’t work. Cut for good reason.

Another ten points for Jason Ward and his scoops over at making star wars.net. I knew this scene had been filmed for at least a year. (Didn’t realize it was Unchar Plutt as the guy who got it though.)

Well honestly to tell the truth I’d say nobody really scooped anything because the novelization was basically based on everything in the film, so for the most part we knew in December everything that wasn’t included (writer was told what he could include in terms of “what was going on” and was given advice as what to include in terms of internal motivations “what they were feeling/thinking/etc”

It is a bit annoying that there are still quite a few deleted scenes that weren’t included on the original blu-ray. Seems like a cash-grab move to me.

I know how the industry works. I probably shouldn’t have said “seems like a cash-grab move” when I really meant “it is a cash-grab move”. I was just hoping for better on Disney’s part.

Also, JJ Abrams did say, when asked about deleted scenes, “No, Disney’s been amazing. There’s been no nefarious or weird, “Let’s hold things back for the fans,” but there will be other deleted scenes that will be available for those who wish to see them.” (http://collider.com/star-wars-the-force-awakens-deleted-scenes/) Apparently they are going to hold things back…

Disney’s going to make a huge profit off their $4B purchase …even if it’s a nickel & dime at a time from fans, they’ll make it.

You mean the same company that has, for decades now, been releasing their classic movies on home media, then with drawing them, only to then release a slightly improved version a few years later for everyone to buy again. That Disney?

They’re the market leaders in double dipping, They practically invented it.

10 minutes after this thing hits the market, those deleted scenes will be on the Internet. I’ll watch them there. Those that plunk down $25 every time a new edition hits the market and complain about being robbed have serious issues.

Same with the special features. I like ’em enough and I’m usually glad when a few are included with my Blu-Rays, but I’m a one-and-one viewer for the vast majority of them.

I don’t care. The deleted scenes add little to the film anyway and I’m glad most of them were cut. I would have kept the snow speeder chase scene though as it is one of those rare scenes that make Finn look good at something.

I don’t think so. I think he purposefully didn’t kill him because if you think about it, Chewie is basically his Uncle. He was Han’s kid, so i’m sure they were close.

This is a great point Weston. I had never considered that Chewie and Ben had to have known each other when Ben was growing up. It would have been cool to see Kylo make a snide remark about his dad still hanging out with that ugly giant Ewok. Then my hatred for Kylo would be complete.

Such “thoughtful reasoning” doesn’t seem very wookie. Wookies make decisions based on RAGE — and I think Chewie shot him and, in haste, THOUGHT he killed him.
