Jyn vs. TIE ? Who will win?

[Possible Spoiler] I could see it now. She’s standing there on the tower carrying the console that holds plans to the Death Star. The TIE raises up. It’s a stand off. She plugs the console into the transmitter. You hear orders over the pilots intercom to kill her. The TIE fires directly at her as she presses the button. The final shot shows a blown up platform engulfed in flames then the camera pans up to the sky and you see Princess Leia’s Rebel Blockade Runner flying overhead and then warp out of orbit. End movie. Perfect ending that transitions perfectly into the beginning of Star Wars IV.

^I’m not even kidding I have had the same idea in my head. I feel like our heroes are going to eat it hard, in glorious fashion, and then they are going to send us to a shot of leia and the gang/rebel ship receiving it in some way.

Could be that but you forget to tell it’s looks like the Vader”s modified TIE. Other than that, it’s all good IMO. 😉

The lore of the prequels was great. The execution of it…..not so much. That being said its apart of the universe all the same but man if Disney handled them back in the day the same they are doing it now, they might be THE Star Wars trilogy. That’s for an alternate time line though.

The Prequels were executed horribly. I only hope I live long enough for Disney to someday RE DO them.

1 and 2 need to be totally redone. I actually enjoyed rots immensely despite its flaws. TCWS was lucas’s successful attempt at fixing the prequels after the fact, and contain some of my favorite Star Wars moments and lore.

I totally agree, and it was a necessary step in the overall story to portray the republic in the prequels and tcws. I hope we get an old republic movie during the next 10 years.

It’s hard to put it into words but the feeling behind it all just felt so real. Like this is a universe with people in it. Living real lives. Grounded and awesome. Don’t get me wrong… of course I love Star Wars but sometimes it can feel almost to fantasy. Like you’re watching a fable.

Man I’m super pumped now… like… really pumped.

And realism? Really, we’re going there, in an universe that deals with mystical things such as the Force, Force users like Jedi and the Sith, and movies that are considered sci-fi and fantasy in general? FOH

Love the new trailer! I get the feeling though, this is going to be a quite a tragic story. Its a war movie, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t see any if not but a few characters making it out of this film alive.

Well, because it’s all part of the same universe. I was hoping for some visual connection. A way to sort of “repair” the prequels in the same way the Clone Wars cartoon did.

But the OT never had a visual connection to the PT and this is apart of the OT world. 18 years has passed since the PT. The empire has changed the Galaxy it doesn’t look the way it once did. It’s all one shared universe but the tones are so different and that’s deliberately done. I am sure there will be more future canon (Currently: Dark Diciple, Obi-Wan & Anakin comic etc) that will help repair the prequels but I don’t think this is the film to do it in. This is a very specific story that is being told. The time will come for the prequels to be redeemed, this just isn’t it.

Disney’s fear of marketing aliens is really worrying me. If they don’t want to show them, they also won’t feature any prominently. And that sucks.

I’m sure the lack of aliens in trailers is really a marketing, a business decision. If they fear too much aliens can scare people away, they won’t throw 200 millions dollars on a movie where the lead is an alien.

The Rebels were mostly human, even in ROTJ’s briefing scene, they are largely human, even after the Mon Cals and Sullustans join up. And it fits with what we know of the species that the Rebel Alliance war predominantly made of in ANH – which is the same base on Yavin 4, all human. We’ll see in the streets of whatever cities how many aliens there are, we didn’t get to see that in a trailer.

      • August 12, 2016 at 6:30 am

Yeah that is valid point but I think it was because in 1976 george did not have the budget or the technology to have aliens running around every scene. I think love them or not the prequels showed that George envisioned a really more diversified universe.

          Well, too bad for George.

The movie that was created in 1977 is one of the most important movie in history, created the blockbuster and the only SW film that won the Oscar for best editing (that we subsequently aren’t allowed to watch unless we preserved our VHS collection or watch it illegally). And its own logic works perfectly.

I respect that but as a avid readers of star wars novels and comic books for many years I think those mediums have always also showed a galaxy where humans are not the majority everwhere they go as it’s a lot easier to write or draw aliens that to put them on screens.

And I prefer that. Makes a lot more sense. I think the prequels did a great job in that regard and I’m disapointed that Lucasfilm seem to shy away from that.

The new trailer was laser targeted at every stupid rumor. They’re nerfing it — battle scenes. It’s in trouble because it’s humorless — jokes. There will be no space battles — X-Wings and Star Destroyers. Classiest way to set the record straight.

Because the Force has inspired faith even in those who can not wield it. It’s a holy site… Jedha. They live there. I think a Monk joining the rebellion because of what the Empire did there is totally cool. IMO.

I was fairly sure this movie was to be devoid of such things outside of Vader? Because technically even though he wouldn’t be a Jedi… a force user is still pretty spot on.

The planet Jedah, is said to be some sort of Jedi “Mecca”. I think there will be plenty of stuff about The Force in it. All that’s been said is that it’s a time in which The Jedi themselves aren’t around and the galaxy is suffering as a result.

Yeah. I suspect he uses the force, but isn’t trained in how to use it, if that makes sense. He’s aware of it, and that’s how he fights blind. That’s my guess anyhow.

Awesome! Back to feeling like the little guys against the big guys and having to overcome incredible odds. It is a fine line between creating dramatic storytelling and setting things up so the good guys always win. Even though we know the good guys eventually win, this trailer feels like Rogue One will get to the heart of the sacrifices and grittiness of war, albeit a fictional war, it nonetheless draws out some emotion. Can’t wait. And I love the K-2SO is as imposing as Chewbacca and as logical as Threepio.

That’s one of the things I’m looking forward to on this movie – yes, we know big-picture that the good guys win, but story-wise, we have no reason to think any of this group are making it out of this movie alive. Right out of the gate that’s some potentially exciting storytelling.

looking at the destruction at 1:38ish in the trailer, I’m thinking that the Death Star blasts the planet just as the rebels are escaping and it looks like they go into hyperspace inside the planet’s gravity to escape the destruction. Of course trailers are usually deliberately misleading. But I guess they’re not going to want to have a big ol death star in the movie without it blasting something. Great trailer, even better than the 1st. Hyped for this movie even more, if it was possible.

It might make sense, because a full blast would destroy it in an instant, and Tarkin does say, “I think it is time we demonstrate

Epic! Everything and every character looks amazing!

One line stood out though as confusing. Saw Garrera said, ‘The World Is Coming Undone.’

There is more than one world in the Star Wars universe; not one world like Earth in our Galaxy. In this context, it sounds like he’s only lived on one world. But in the next line he says, ‘Imperial Flags Reign Throughout The Galaxy.’

Shouldn’t the line say, ‘The Galaxy is coming Undone. Imperial Flags Reign Everywhere!’

I’m sure it will be clearer in the movie but I thought that was weird…..

“World” doesn’t just mean ‘planet’. When you talk about the ‘art world’ or the ‘world of politics’, “world” means something a very general situation or milieu.

Was just thinking how much cooler this would’ve been had Abrams and Kasdan not blown their wad and given us a ridiculous super weapon in Force Awakens. Not only did they do that, but it looked more like the Death Star than the original effing Death Stars! Count along with me then, we get the Death Star in Star Wars, Jedi, Force Awakens, and now Rogue One. Had we not seen it in Force Awakens, seeing it in Rogue One would’ve seemed refreshing and nostalgic. Now it comes across as tired. Hate it when artists steal their own thunder.

This is about the original Deathstar from A New Hope. It’s not a new Super weapon! It’s a prequel to A New Hope and how the Deathstar plans were stolen. How do you not get that yet?

But we were told all that in the first trailer. This trailer did nothing for the casual fan in explaining the plot. The first was far more helpful than this one for that, but those fans wouldn’t have been as exposed as this one.

I’m not asking for loads of spoilers, as I felt TFA maybe gave a little too much away in the end, but Some of the scenes here made no sense.

They just wanted to get Star Wars PT haters and all the rest of the world who’s never really been into Star Wars, into it easily with TFA. The feelings and familiarities of Episode 4 asside, I love every scene, the story, and direction of TFA.

Now, this trailer has the same impact, but hey: you could be disappointed by the movie as well, when it finally will come out.

Anyway, to me, Rogue One looks pretty good, and this trailer definitely conquered me. Love the wide shots, the attention paid to the environment, the practical explosions and the CGI. I like Michael Biehn in Terminator and Aliens, really i think he is the same guy in both films.I dont know who he is back in civilian life but i bet hes seen some shit. I think good casting is Key, then let the actors run with it. For Jyn Erso MR is better definately. I would have cast Yusra Mardini the Syrian refugee/ olympic swimmer. I think she could become that character even if she doesnt know anything about acting.

I think the death star will be tested on Jedha
1: The DS is above Jedha
2: The mayor wapon’s test is imminent
3: Jedha looks like a good target (only a small moon, and spiritual home so the empire surely doesn’t like is)
4: At around 1:38 the rebel U-wing flies in front of what seems to be a storm, but I think it’s not a storm but the effect of the death star laser, which is not fully functional, so the whole planet won’t be destroyed, only part of it.

    Imma say this:

    1. The Force Awakens is an amazing movie, people NEED to get out of their own ass, is the biggest selling movie of all time in the USA and second in the world, its an ENJOYABLE AMAZING movie. It may not be the best movie ever, but darn it its good as shit. you cry enjoy and flabergast to it, ITS A GOOD MOVIE.

    2. This movie will probably be better, but wait, isnt that the point? yes it IS… although is not VIIII im sure it will blow the shit of out minds away, and THATS the point, Disney is tangling us in,

    3. VIII is probably gonna top this two movies by ALOT, Rian Johnson is NOT JJ ergo he makes alot better films at every level even at a story telling level, maybe jj is better at some things but as a whole Rian out does him and VIII will be the tipping point in the whole saga and i mean the whole shibang, if VIII fail everything goes down VIII is the avengers of Lucasfilm this is just the Thor of it, TFA was iron man. Brace because its just starting and these people know what they are doing

    4. Rouge One WILL open up doors to alot of star wars stories , and i believe that will be good, the footage in this trailer is unprecedented

I’m going to reply just like this: TFA was a brilliant movie; R1 seems brilliant as well. As a Star Wars fan, having two brilliant SW movies in ONE YEAR is enough 🙂

        Same here!

    • August 12, 2016 at 7:58 pm
      Permalink

      Imma say this:

      1. Many people enjoyed The Force Awakens. A small minority of those people who have wrapped way too much of their own self worth up in NEEDING the world to agree with them about a movie need to learn to accept that it is entirely possible to not have agreed about the movie and still hold an equally valid opinion. It is ALSO possible to hold opinions that would seem to run counter to BO results, and the corollary is that “ROTTIN TOMATOWS GAVE IT 200%!!!!” does not make any piece of art immune from critical analysis, nor does it make your opinion any more right or wrong. “Crawl out of their own asses” indeed, the irony is thick.

      2. This is pretty much just wishful thinking at the moment. I’m glad you’re enthusiastic, it’s fun to be excited for movies, but no, no it does not mean any of those things. A whole bunch of us learned that the hard way in 1999 let me tell you.

      3. Rian Johnson doesn’t really have a huge resume as a director. He has a couple of okay small films under his belt, an a pretty good medium sized film. On the one hand, he appears to have some good instincts, but on the other, he has never had a film as big as a Star Wars to try and ringmaster. Besides just the scale of the thing, it seems doubtful that he will have the kind of creative freedom he has had in the past, and it remains to be seen what he can do with it. We’ll know next year and not before.

      4. It will if it lands reasonably well – it seems Disney wants these films to fill in the revenue stream for SW on non episode years, so it doesn’t even need to be a runaway success I don’t think, just as long as it doesn’t get panned and doesn’t actually loose money. If it augers in however (hi, Ghostbusters!), it might conceivably convince Disney to have LFL put the spin offs on hold after Han Solo, at least until the smoke clears and they figure out what went wrong. The footage in the trailer IS very encouraging, absolutely agree, but again, “Godzilla ’99, Suicide Squad and a whole bunch of other movies that cut down to great 2 minute trailers say hi”.

In french it gaves that : “Anakin, i ve never been so sad.”

idk maybe dubbing makes appear dialogs less cheesy and bland.

Here in BC it was dubbed as “Anakin, you’re harshing my buzz!”.

Looks great. Anyone else get a prequel vibe from the CGI and lighting at 36 seconds when the U-Wing is taking off?

yes indeed. i ve seen the trailer in dubbed version so his accent his neutral for me. i really want to learn more about Cassian Andor. And maybe through the movie he will find is sensitive to the Force.

Like TFA trailers, every shot seems perfect but in a darker, gritty, brown, opressive way. Absolutely love the pallette of colours.
There are anthological shots here: The cruiser over the city, Yavin base, the ship (u-wing?) through those cloudy mountains, the ship (x-wing?) through rock environment, the robot, the DS over the planet (sick), the eclipse, all the imperial generals together, the light speed shot from above, the Tie Fighter,…
Those images makes me pee every time. Is what i love from Star Wars. This kind of shots takes me in another world in a sec. And the best part this is just the beginning.

‘Darker, gritty, brown..’ as in ugly? Pretty much so. But all in all, even at that, it’s better looking than TFA.

Ok I watched it a few times… first time, I will be honest, I wasnt impressed. Thought it was good but didnt blow me away like TFA trailer… but I watched it several times and each time I got it. Its going to be a hard thing for a lot of us to take. No Han, Luke, Chewie or even R2… its going to be a new story with (relatively) new people. With each viewing I grew more and more excited because I can let go of my childhood characters and follow new ones. Its ok. Its ok to let it go and watch others fight the Empire…

Oh and by the way… First Order has NOTHING on the original Empire. I think that is another thing that started to sell me is that this is the Empire. THE Empire. The one that for three movies struck fear in everybody.

So Im excited now… maybe not on the same level as Episode 8…but Im excited. My childhood can wait one more year, this is more like a bed time story… just my opinion

“Rogue One: A Star Wars Bedtime Story”
      I like that.

just a thought…but..it is unlikely a planet is destroyed via the Death Star in R1 given ANH leads us to believe that Alderaan is the first planet to be destroyed:
“This battle station is now fully operational. I suggest we use it.”
    Obi-Wan’s reaction
    etc..

Perhaps in R1 the plans are not only stolen, but the rebellion manages to delay the successful test. couple of shots of what look like a ruined planet area- perhaps a partial test.

would be cool if there was a ‘successful’ mission that delayed the DS progress, saving the destruction for ANH.
