New International Rogue One Trailer With New Footage Revealed!

Death

A new international trailer for Rogue One has been revealed with several brief new scenes and new voice over. The trailer is 98 seconds long. Check it out!

The most interesting bit from the new trailer is the mention of Jyn’s father Galen, played by Mads Mikkelsen. We have a cool piece on the Ersos coming tomorrow.

That was a pleasant surprise just a few days after the official trailer was released.

The domestic one has better music, editing and shots. HOWEVER, this one is much easier to understand. It lays down the basic plot and makes it simple to understand who Jyn is and why she is important.

Different music too. Could be the extra dialogue just makes it seem wonkier.

I really like both though. The music in the US version, where it swells at the scene with the Rebel troopers disembarking is amazing though.

This is an excellent trailer. It lays out the basic plot more effectively than any of the ones we’ve seen up to this point, simply by adding in that one line about how they got their intel about the new Imperial weapon platform from Jyn’s father. That ties the whole thing together.

Domestic trailers are about the tone. But people in Asia actually need a basic understanding of the storyline. I like the trailers made for Asia better.

Well we’ve seen the cast so we know who, we know it’s about stealing plans so we got the what and we’ve seen jyn in the imperial outfit with the former imperial droid in the secret base so we got a pretty decent idea on the how. This movie isn’t that complicated nor should it be.

Yep, I feel they can. I already know as much as I want to walking into the theater. More in fact as I didn’t want confirmation that Vader would appear. We know where this starts (Empire is building a weapon), we know where it ends (Rebels have successfully stolen the plans to the weapon). Everything in between is up for grabs story-wise.

Just a thought… (Not sure if anyone has brought this up before). In TFA Han Solo mentions Luke went off looking for the first Jedi Temple. Now, I would guess that’s on Jeddha; maybe the temple seen at the beginning of the Rogue One trailer with the Star Destroyer hovering above.

Could it be that Jeddha is more or less destroyed by the Empire in Rogue One and its location hidden by the empire during the original trilogy?

Could Episode VIII see Luke and Rey also searching for Jeddha at some point?

Just a cool little idea that would tie it all together. Any thoughts?

    • August 16, 2016 at 1:53 am

I think that there will be something like in old EU with an order that wasn’t the jedi order (Je’daii?) from wich later the Jedi order was founded. So my guess is that Anch-To is in fact the first Jedi temple’s setting, while Jeddha is much more ancient… or maybe even less ancient. The ruins they use for anch-to jedi temple are much more ancient looking than the huge structure of the Jeddha city.

        Ahch-To is Stonehenge

Just as Rey is this adorable girl who’s about to come into her own and be a force for good…Sounds like jyn had a fairly similar, grow up on her own, lifestyle, but more on the “wrong side of the tracks” mentality.

Well sorta makes sense in a “certain point of view”. Western cultures Europe, and america are usually lumped together by all of Asia. I’d say for the most part their correct. At least in the sense of culture and government and sociological mentality. Where as much of Asia, is typically based in communist, socialistic and imperialistic regimes. Or some form of dictatorship. Not to go all worldly on a Star Wars site or anything. Just sayin. Oh and they are also most notably similar in markets. Movie markets usually lump Europe in with America…then have a whole other approach to Asia. Specifically China

    • August 16, 2016 at 2:41 am
      Permalink

Well, for Americans a Japanese trailer is international, right? Because cultures are different and trailers read very different in Asia, they seem toi get their own trailers with less disjointed moments and more of a linear storyline. The same happened for The Force Awakens.

Any Rebels that actually lay eyes on the DS probably don’t survive. At the start of a new hope no one is aware of it. The line “that’s no moon” comes to mind. Even though they steal the plans apparently the plans go largely unseen by the beginning of ANH.

Rogue One ends 10 minutes before A New Hope begins. There’s not much time for many people to become aware of it outside the Rebellion itself so its not a stretch that the main cast of A New Hope have no idea whats going on. I doubt Tatooine has a great news service.

Completely unrelated..but I came across a video today with some guy going on about a theory he had for episode VIII which I found to be pretty interesting. It involves Plagueis (which I know has been debunked many times by Pablo)..but he is used in a very different way here. He is basically implying that Plagueis is a Sith entity of sorts, who posseses the body of each apprentice he has, granting him immortality (fits with his name..sorta like a plague). So in other words, Plagueis possessed the body of Palpatine (his apprentice at the time) while creating back ups (Maul, Dooku) in case things went wrong. While using Palpatine as a vessel, he was patiently waiting for Anakin (his creation) to grow in power so he can move on to his “far younger and more powerful” body. Of course after the duel on Mustafar, Anakin was a damaged version of his former self so Plagueis had to seek out a new vessel. Luke is discovered..he wants Luke to be his new body..Vader “kills” the emperor..Plagueis swarms into the first person he can find (Snoke) and is now using Ben to eventually become his new vessel. Luke is in hiding because he fears that Plaguies (Snoke) would try and take him instead, but Snoke is not that powerful at the moment so Luke would probably resist him. Anyway something I thought was pretty interesting and something that you guys can nibble on while we wait for more info on VIII lol.

Interesting, but one problem I see is where is Snoke when Palp dies in the shaft? Can Plaguies go through walls? I doubt that anyone would be in the shaft as well when Palp dies. All that energy that comes up the shaft (insert dirty joke here) would probably kill anyone nearby.

One minor worry I have is the Death Stars super laser. If they never blow up a planet it will feel underwhelming like a gun on the mantle that never goes off, but if they blow up Jeddah as I’m surmising they will it will contradict tarkins line about testing the weapon and choosing which planet will be destroyed first. Plus I feel like the rebels would definitely know if a whole planet was destroyed

They could fire a lessor version of it. A not fully operational shot in other words. They set the microwave to 50% power 😛

Has anybody ever actually used a microwave on low power?

        Just curious.

Yeah. They just “defrosted” the planet! Ha ha ha

I have… it can actually help it from tasting microwaved. Like less soggy or rubbery. At least when it comes to reheating things. Take a burger for example. On full power it can sometimes over cook portions of the bun and generally make the thing a little soggy. On 50% the onions/tomatoes can still taste somewhat fresh and the bun should be fine. Way off topic now 😛

They still could blow half of it though…

There is a scene in the original trailer where it looks like Jyn and Cassian are flying through what looks like a planet or something huge collapsing around them. The initial weapons test may have been a small moon or something like that.

Yeah. I see what you mean. I’m going to guess that the laser will be fired and will destroy the city we’ve seen so often in the trailer. It’ll scar the planet pretty good, but won’t destroy it.

I really hope the Death Star doesn’t destroy any sort of planet or moon. Alderaan really should remain the first (and only) planetary body that the Death Star utterly destroys.

I don’t think it is absolutely vital that we are shown the Death Star’s power because we’ve already seen it in action and that knowledge alone would be enough to feel the weight of its presence throughout the film.

This one didn’t quite stir the emotions… mainly due to slightly oddly placed music… but I did love the extra context!

Strange mix of pacing and tones. Also, my bet is that those altered scenes were from the reshoots. You can see different tone in dialogues here and there. Most notably Jyn’s “May the force be with us” dialogue that was delivered more normal instead of casual, sarcastic tone from the Celebration trailer.

Or maybe, just MAYBE…they did multiple takes of the same line.

Of course they did, but that is also the part of reshoots.

Also, the “part time” line from Indy 4 (apologize for mentioning that movie – I’ll go lament now)

Yes, just like the “Chewie, we’re home” line.

They are indeed two different takes (i.e. not merely dubbing). The tell-tale sign of this is, while the Felicity Jones’ position, hair etc is identical in both shots, the extra climbing the ladder behind her does it differently in either take.

I wish I didn’t have to wade through so many complaints and worries, and criticisms of a movie that NO ONE HAS SEEN, to get to the few that are excited and ready to enjoy the movie no matter what. I think most of the negativity comes from people who take it for granted that we have Star Wars movies at all. That in itself is amazing. I mean, we have 4 more, AT LEAST, in the pipeline. Amazing.

Always great to see the extra footage. But I’m always baffled at how international audiences don’t get the same great music, timing, and shots of the “regular” (US?) trailer. It’s especially apparent when you watch them back-to-back.

I did notice how the regular trailer focuses on the specific characters more, and the international trailer focused on the Asian actors and excluded other characters, and explained the plot a bit more. So I guess it’s just targeted marketing. (Duh)
