Mads Mikkelsen on the Rogue One Reshoots: We’re Just Adding Little Bits Here and There!
Over the course of the last week or so, the rumors about Rogue One reshoots have spread like fire with contradicting reports appearing in the media. While some reports claimed that reshoots are perfectly normal on the big movies, the others caused great concern to the fans because they reported that almost half of the movie will be changed.
The Independent sat down with Mads Mikkelsen to interview him about his upcoming movie and took the opportunity to ask the actor about it.
This is the part of the interview concerning Rogue One.
Q: There is a lot of talk about the ongoing reshoots, are you involved with them?
A: I have one day. I can’t remember when, in two weeks I think.
Q: It’s been very mixed in the press, with two sides; some sources are claiming the film will undergo big changes while others are saying it will be very minimal. What’s the feeling you have from being involved with the film?
A: Basically, all the big films I have done always have reshoots, it is part of their budget. They’re either not super happy with a scene bit, the way we were acting, or maybe there’s something they want to add. It’s not a new thing, it happens with every film. Whether it’s bigger or less, I have no idea, I have nothing to compare with. It’s the same film, it’s just adding little bits here and there to do the final polishing. That’s my feeling.
Q: It’s interesting because, obviously, films get reshot all the time but, for this one, it has been talked about everywhere.
A: That’s also interesting, to make the right goal and all the rumours happening. [Disney] love that, it’s free publicity.
Mikkelsen said he couldn’t speak about his role in the film, although he previously disclosed that he plays Jyn Erso’s father.
So, there you have it. Considering Mikkelsen’s usual honesty and the fact that he is actually involved in the film, his take doesn’t sound like doom and gloom that has been spreading lately. ‘Final polishing’ is what, I think, we all want this film to have.
For those interested in Mads Mikkelsen’s other roles (Doctor Strange), future of Hannibal and his other projects, The Independent plans to release the entire interview with the actor soon.
Rogue One, A Star Wars Story, is scheduled for the release on December 14, 2016.
Staff member, comic and book reviewer. Cheers for the Light Side, but would drink with Grand Admirals.
It better not be “little bits” of Han Solo cameos “here and there.”
I don’t even know how they could make that work – the new guy they cast is at least ten years too young to be playing Han in the Rogue One era ( unless they use flashbacks within the movie itself ).
Mads previously said we’ll be seeing him with “a younger Jyn” so there’s either at least one flashback or the movie spans more time than we’re assuming.
“Have you ever heard of the Star Wars galaxy?”
“Ah, yes, the Star Wars galaxy, where every galactic hero knew each other in person at one point in time…”
I absolutely love non-linear story-tellings, but star wars doesn’t use that.
So far.
it wouldn’t fit…
I don’t disagree. But there is apparent confirmation that we’ll be seeing Mikkelson’s character with “a younger Jyn”. I have no idea how that’s going to work.
Holo-picture, Force… I’m more for the first one between the two
Also doesn’t use flashbacks.
There could be holorecordings or something.
I really hope not. A Han Solo movie? Eh, well…okay. But I just don’t see it being necessary to tie him directly into the events leading up to A New Hope. I’m still of the camp that think his story should start at the Cantina. But if we’re going to get any official backstory, it should remain independent of these these types of events.
100% agree.
If they have to shove Solo in I could see him having a past with Jyn or at least having crossed paths with her. However, the movie will need to already be delving into her past for that to make sense as something we need to see to serve the story.
Solo clearly had no idea about the Death Star before arriving at Alderaan so having him be part of the main plot of Rogue One would make no sense.
> Considering Mikkelsen’s usual honesty…
Or Disney lawyers have been all like “keep your fuckin’ mout’ shut this time”
Don’t be that paranoid man.
Why? What do you know? Have they got to you too?
No. But the thing is that you should stop being hateful to Disney when something unrevealed is going on.
Oh I don’t hate them. Who told you that? Don’t say that! They’re listening.
You’re confusing…
SHHH!!! he’s one of….THEM – the lizard people!
too late, you’re done, I’ll tell Disney you hate them! they’ll make you pay for that! u.u
<< puts on tinfoil helmet and starts crying and singing Let It Go at the top of his voice >>
goood, gooood! let the “Disney” flow through you!
“LEAVE DISNEY ALONE!!!!!”
Aren’t you in an old Youtube video?
No!
Again “reshoot” being confused with “pickups”. Pickup days are normal. They are pre-scheduled. In editing little things are often found to be needed. Reaction shots, second unit stuff, additional expository lines. But Actually reshooting things that have already been shot, after wrapping? not that common. Dailies are seen immediately after shooting. If something didn’t work they do it again. Clearly the rough cut had major structural or tonal flaws that were not apparent in dailies. A couple days or a week of pickups. Standard. Several Weeks. Problems.
