Co-Director Chris Miller Teases Star Wars: Han Solo.
Directors Phil Lord (shown above, left) and Christopher Miller (shown above, right) were picked to direct writer Lawrence Kazdan’s swan song for the Star Wars franchise: the Han Solo movie. Miller took advantage of the opportunity presented by Star Wars Day to show off the return of an iconic prop that will be used by whatever lucky actor is able to win the part.

The movie is currently set for a May 25, 2018 release date (and while that date could change, it is highly unlikely that the movie will be released in December 2018 due to the prominence of Fox’s long-gestating Avatar sequel). Filming may begin as early as the end of this year, though when Lord & Miller start filming the movie will ultimately depend on when the title character is officially cast.

OH COME ON. Why are people STILL so bent on hating this movie? So wait, when Harrison Ford dies, does that mean that there should never ever ever be a Han Solo ever again ever?
I’m skeptical about it but I certainly don’t flat out hate the idea. Way too early to tell. If it wasn’t Kasdan + Lord & Miller I’d be a lot more skeptical.
I have enough face in these 3 that I’m willing to reserve judgment until I see it. That said, I would have never okayed this project if I were an exec (unless it was conditional for Kasdan to do 7).
Why is that a bad thing? There is no real need for this movie. Han is fine as he is. Why risk making a bad Han Solo.

It’s not just that I don’t like the idea of a young Han Solo movie. It’s that there are a billion other characters and stories to tell in this galaxy far far away, and Disney is concentrating on stories/characters we already know because the familiarity factor will help sell more merchandise.

I could buy into that,that new actor is young Han Solo,if it is 15 years before ANH,but if that actor makes cameo in Rogue One,that means that Han has changed in a couple of months or days from Rogue One to ANH,and I couldn’t buy into that,please don’t make cameo in Rogue One,it’s not about Han Solo. Han Solo shouldn’t have big role in Rebellion before ANH,he had his own pirate problems
Yeah, I kind of have this idea that with Jyn Erso’s shady past she’ll have crossed paths with Han at some point. However, we know from Mads Mikkelson that there’s some kind of flashback to a younger Jyn in the movie.

Not sure where they are getting their “market research” that fans are demanding this. OT fans are aghast at anyone playing Han other than Ford, PT fans want an Obi-Wan film, and ST fans are more interested in something original. You can count the positive reactions in this thread and any other about this film on one hand.
At best this will be another Thor 2, At worst it will be the SW version of Dawn Of Justice. It’s making money no matter what but there will be a huge dropoff after opening weekend and a bad taste in everyone’s mouth afterward.

I was 100 percent accurate about Dawn Of Justice years in advance actually. You honestly think people on here are going to change their minds about this on the basis of a trailer? They knew this was a bad idea ages ago as well. A Jar Jar/Maz buddy comedy would probably be more popular than this.
Casting Han is even more of a problem than casting Anakin, They are pretty much fucked with whoever they go with and the best idea would be to scrap this film entirely like Trank’s rumored Fett film or retool it heavily so it’s no longer about Han.

That site is crap in today’s day and age. They’re irrelevant, & the founder of it is a total has-been (hell, that armchair filmmaker should’ve been looked at as a total loser from Day 1 but that’s another conversation for another time in another place).
It’s past it’s prime but you can look at any other film board and see the same tepid response to this film. Fans are into the ST, Maybe less so with Rogue One but clearly still intrigued. Nobody wants this Han Solo film. It’s unecessary and guaranteed to contradict the OT more than the PT just by the nature of it’s existance.
This forum is hardly a place for a balanced perspective of what fans want. It’s pretty rife with whiners that will probably end up in theater seats regardless of what Lucasfilm puts on screen. I think market researchers are pretty savvy with sifting through the noise. I’d imagine that this sort of baseless, quick complaining is largely ignored and overlooked. I can’t really imagine anyone at a story group meeting bringing up the fact that VaderObiWanLucasHater44354 doesn’t want a female lead in a movie or that HaydeChristtendomTrumpHumper is upset about an Asian being cast.
But all that aside, I’d probably pass on the Solo film if I were Lucasfilm. I just don’t see the need for a Han Solo backstory. His story starts in the Cantina. I’m not interested in an Obi-Wan movie, either. Now, a Salacious Crumb movie would be another story altogether….
It’s as equally unpopular on the IMDB, Ain’t It Cool, and on other non-fan sites though. I don’t know anyone personally either whose clamoring for it, they either are opposed or completely indifferent towards it. Everyone will probably all see it at some point but it won’t get the repeat business they are looking for hence my Thor 2/Dawn Of Justice analogy with a big opening but not much after that and more PT-esque gripes/mixed reviews to boot too.
I’d take that any day over this too. Clearly phase I is all about OT spinoffs but if they really want to be making SW films into the 2020’s they are going to need to branch out in terms of the timeline. If they borrow anything from Marvel then they should use their method of taking C and D list comic characters like Iron Man and Guardians Of The Galaxy and turning them into A list comic film properties. It’s not like they lack a variety of existing characters to work with either.
I scan those other sites as well. Most the most consistent whiners are the same folks doing the same thing across different forum platforms. The time some of these people must have….
I’m stoked about Rogue One because it touches upon events from the OT rather than being an origin story. Origin stories rarely do it for me. But yeah, Star Wars is chock full of characters that have been relatively untapped in regards to story. I’d love to see some future stand-alone installments head in that direction.
The thing is that Han is an OT icon to the older fans that are pretty much indifferent or adamently opposed and the PT ones don’t care at all much about him while the ST generation are more into the new characters so there’s no audience there.
Great example is the new Ghostbusters film that has the most dislikes of any trailer in history on Youtube. Micheal B. Jordan and Josh Trank tried to downplay the bad fan reactions online but Fantastic Four still wound up being one of the biggest bombs of the decade.
If their market research was pro as they claimed then there would have been Lone Ranger and John Carter sequels.
Personally the movie I really want to see is a underworld gangster movie with the Hutts front and center. Filmed in the theme of the Godfather.

Even so, Star Wars fans calling those people idiots is a bit odd considering some of the emotional reactions this fan base has to the franchise as well as the lengths some folks go in order to express their fandom. Somehow the guy in the Stormtrooper costume who flies across the country to participate in a Star Wars Celebration while bemoaning how the Prequels ruined his childhood gets a pass, but six people crying about Pandora is worthy of ridicule.

I recently realised how did they choose directors for these new star wars films: J.J. and Colin Threvorow because they’re Spielberg proteges, Rian Johnson because he used telekinesis in Looper, Gareth Edwards because of his monter movies (next to AT-ATs being sort of giant mechanical monsters). Still trying to figure out the criteria that brought to choose these two guys though
They did the best duo movies recently (Jump Street). Han & Chewie needs that criteria.

As hyped and excited as I was for VI back in 83, the Special Editions in 97, Ep I in ’99, TFA ’12-’15 and now Rogue One, that picture of that blaster doesn’t do anything with my feels. All right I needed trailers to become convinced of TFA and R1, but a Han Solo movie..? Nah. Despite Kasdan writing it, I am just not interested. They managed to actually keep Han an allright character in TFA but anything outside the main saga and especially with a different actor is just not something I want. There’s just a too narrow framework for success (IMO!). On the other hand fans seem to want an Obi Wan movie and that is a smarter idea in the sende that it should be easier to write a story more fans can enjoy. Heck there’s Even a chance of redeeming the character. With Han, there is like nothing to gain and everything to lose. This post was obviously only One POV. I shall eat my SW underoos if “Han Solo and the Last Idealistic Crusade” becomes a worthwhile addition to the franchise.

Damn, such negative reaction over a movie that hasn’t even started filming yet. What is the point? Its not like any of us have any control over whether Disney is coming out with a Han Solo movie. Its happening… Whether it will be good or bad remains to be seen. But you’re fooling yourselves if you think Disney isn’t trying to milk the most out of this investment. They see the potential after buying Marvel, the prototype for the cinematic universe. They intend to industrialize it with Star Wars. The Han Solo movie is just the beginning. If all goes well, you can bet that they will reboot the entire original cast and make movies for the next 30 years filling in the gap between VI and VIII and make a hell of a lot of money in the process. Again, this is happening whether you like it or not. And every single one of you are going to watch regardless of how much you may bitch about it. Time to just accept it and pray that they do a good job.
