Debunked! RUMOR: Ade Edmondson Reportedly Looking at Star Wars Episode VIII Role.

Adrian-EdmondsonBritish actor Adrian “Ade” Edmonson (whose credits include Jonathan Creek, War & Peace, and Hell’s Kitchen) is apparently being considered for a “mystery role” (most likely a cameo) for Star Wars Episode VIII.

From The London Evening Standard:

The British comedian and actor, best known for his role in 1990s sitcom Bottom, is thought to have joined the cast of Star Wars 8.

According to The Sun, Edmondson impressed director Rian Johnson and The Force Awakens director JJ Abrams, who is a producer on the eighth film.

“His character is top secret, like everything else to do with the film and its plot. But given his old comedy characters, it would make sense for them to give him an eccentric part.”

A word of warning is that this rumor does come from The Sun, who have had sketchy reports about Star Wars in the past, so taking this with a few grains of salt would be a wise precaution. Nonetheless, it seems like Ade could be a good fit for the franchise, even if only for a small supporting role.

UPDATE!

Ade Edmondson took to Twitter himself to debunk the rumor:

This film’s Simon Pegg. Could be a funny alien, or can imagine him doing a good droid character.

(I imagine this is all probably just another b.s. rumor, but I’d still love to see Ade in Star Wars.)

I feel like he’s gonna be in league with Lando somehow. But I could also see him as a funny droid or important bit-part

The Sun? Same people that said the Florence and the machine singer nailed the episode 7 lead. They have as much scoop credibility as my dog.

Florence Welsh definitely got the lead in TFA. She was in the movie for three whole frames!

As totally awesome as this would be, the chances of this being true are slim to none. Come on, people. I loved the Young Ones, and Bottom, and Filthy Rich and Catflap, but come on… this is an April Fool’s joke.

Ade is great, but I think his presence would be distracting. I don’t want to see someone that takes me out of the movie because of who they are, and have been so prominently in the past.
