Star Wars Battlefront Season Pass Details!

Star-Wars-Battlefront-Delay-700x350

EA has announced what players will be getting out of buying the Season Pass for Star Wars Battlefront on the eve of the game’s release. As it turns out, the Season Pass practically doubles the content of the base game, with plenty of content to come in the next year or so.

First and foremost, it would be prudent to talk about what’s in the base game as it is (for frame of reference). As it stands, the base game comes with 12 maps – 3 for each of the 4 planets (Tatooine, Hoth, Endor, and Sullust) – and 2 more maps for the free Battle Of Jakku expansion. The game features 13 modes – 9 for multiplayer (Cargo, Drop Zone, Fighter Squadron, Walker Assault, Supremacy, Blast, Droid Run, Heroes Versus Villains, and Hero Hunt) and 4 for single-player and co-op (Training, Survival, Battles, and Hero Battles). Players will get to utilize 6 different Hero and Villain characters in the game – Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Han Solo, Darth Vader, Boba Fett, and Sheev Palpatine. There are also over two dozen weapons at the disposal of players.

Given that the game is derived from Battlefield, it’s no surprise that DICE is going to periodically release content over a long period of time – and the content of the Season Pass will manifest in the form of four expansions (not including the Battle Of Jakku package, as that is free for all players). A total of 16 multiplayer maps will be added with the expansions, along with four new Heroes and Villains. More than 20 new weapons will be added alongside 4 new game modes. Players will also get an exclusive emote (“Shoot First”), and be able to access the content of each expansion two weeks earlier than other players. So with all that in mind, that means that by the time Battlefront‘s DLC cycle ends, the game will have 30 maps, 17 modes, 10 Heroes and Villains, and upwards of 50 weapons in the game – and when comparing that to the 2004 game that started it all, that’s a little more than twice the content for a little more than twice the price.

Battlefront 02

Details on the specifics of the content that will actually appear in these four expansions is not clear at the moment, but they should be announced over the course of the coming months. (Presumably, if the Battle Of Jakku is of any indication, there may be as many as 8 new planets and 2 maps for each of them.) Early reviews from gamers seem to be largely positive, if critical about certain aspects of the game itself (such as less focus on single-player content in favor of multiplayer). In any case, it sounds as though Battlefront will serve as a strong foundation for future Star Wars games in the years to come.

Battlefront hits the shelves tomorrow for PC, PS4, and Xbox One consoles. The first expansion, Battle Of Jakku, will arrive on December 1 for players that pre-ordered the game and on December 8 for everyone else.

I only hope that we eventually see Clone Wars stuff added and space battles.

Space battles probably won’t make it into the series until the inevitable sequel, but I think that a few Clone Wars-era planets (*not* factions) as playable battlefields are a strong possibility.

I bet all the new content is going to be from The Force Awakens

I wouldn’t count on it. The movie can’t have *that* much stuff in it.

would presume it would come from the clone wars. That would allow alot more material.

I hope the four added Heroes and Villains are Finn, Rey, Kylo, and Phasma. Hopefully a Starkiller Base map will be added after the film is released, along with a Takodana map.

This first DLC is just inadmissible. The game is not even out. And it will have more maps. WTF EA ?! Screw you and shame on you Dice & Ea lobbying… Enough with bullshit sweden-IKEA- like with their games in kit. Sorry for the rant, but it needs to be said.i will not pay the game at full price !!

so basically you’re only getting half a game out of the box? modern day video games are a scam.

So it turns out it’s EXACTLY like everyone said. They gave us half of the content of the previous games so they could sell it to us later.

Now, I get that they were under time constraints to get the product out there for release before the movie. I understand that. Though, having even a few maps be free DLC would have gone a long way to calm everyone’s shit. But holding back 4 modes behind an additional paywall is inexcusable.

I will not ever buy this game.

Really pisses me off that they are only adding 4 Heroes and Villains, which will undoubtedly be the Force Awakens characters, Kylo, Fin, Rey and Phasma. Where’s Lando, Kenobi, Yoda, Bossk, Dengar, and IG-88?

I had a bunch of stuff to trade in so I prepaid this think for $4 out of pocket. But this DLC is infuriating. The first DLC in any game should be free. At least if it comes in the first 3 months after release. Because that means most of the material was far along by the release date. After that, fine charge the suckers. I played Black Ops 2 without ever buying more maps.

I played the beta. It was fun, and decent. Nothing great. But let’s be honest, I am getting this because it is Star Wars and i am going out of my mind waiting for the movie. So I will have something to give me my fix for 4 weeks.

Wow! What a surprise! We actually get a half of the game and for almost the same amount, buy the second half, why am I so surprised. Hahaha! You bet I will buy the season pass, it’s how dumb I actually am. Did it with all Arkham Batmen 🙁

I love the OT… I can’t wait for TFA. Nearly everything I’ve heard, read and watched is amazing.

That said… I really don’t have much nice to say about Battlefront. Visuals and sound wise? Top notch. Absolutely nailed it.

Everything else? Ugh… it just becomes a mess for me. One I can’t justify spending $110 on. I still think I’ll cave for the Star Wars theme alone when it’s a $60 bundle with all the DLC.

Don’t be a sheep and buy this DLC. Be apart of the solution not part of the problem. We as a gaming community need to unite and say that we aren’t going to stand for a company to blatantly rip us off. Most people are smart enough to see through it but don’t want to give up things they want for it.

    .
And yet lacks any significant offline play, either SP or split screen, lacks the strategic element of GC, no space missions, half of the “vehicles” are not actually flyable craft, a completely idiotic random-pickup approach to vehicles, walkers are not drive-able, and snow-speeders can only disable sad walkers via a moronic QuickTime mini game rather than actually demonstrating your piloting skill y actually having to fly in and around the legs. All in all, it’s sounding like a tedious, twitchy pass for me.

The point is they are selling you that weak content for the cost of an additional game.

Indeed but in battlefront 2 there were at least some sort of replayability. The Galactic Conquest was hard and entertaining. i ve not tested this one yet. the only things that look cool for me is dogfight, lightsaber duel, battles with tons of soldiers. I really can’t understand how Dice had screwed this game. All was needed was next-gen graphics, solid gameplay for duels and force powers, big battle with troops & vehicules in ground-air-space. I am still waiting for Battlefront 3. This reboot will be useless in 6 months, like TitanFall

Paid DLC does suck, but that is the business model these days. Make as much as you can for as little as possible. That’s what we get in Capitalism. Unfortunately this is a global issue where ever the capitalist model is followed.
I knew what we were getting into with this and I know it sucks, but I have pre ordered Ultimate and I am happy to pay a bit extra to support the franchise I love. We buy it, we get more in the future.
We all boycott it, we don’t get more in the future unless we stand up to it on a country wide/global scale and I’m a realist, that isn’t gonna happen right now! 🙂

Yeah, cause the software output of non-Capitalistic economies is staggering…
If you don’t like paid DLC, don’t buy it. The only reason it exists is because people are willing to pay for it.

Very good point, don’t like it, don’t buy it. I like star wars, so I will buy it of course.
Unfortunately I wasn’t including non-capitalistic countries in my post as I don’t live in one and could not form a informed opinion.

Most of the time you get a somewhat full game., with additional content usually not worth the cost of the DLC that should have came in the game in the first place. This game leaves half the game out and essentially makes you pay for the game twice to get the content that should have been there in the first place. They are double dipping on idiots.

I agree, but this game does seem to have quite a lot in the base game.
I would advise most people on here to check out Twitch.com and look for people streaming Battlefront to get a good look at it if they are unsure. There is actually a good amount of content in the base game. But I agree DLC’s are overpriced.

There is others models. Even if early access have his flaws. Looks Star Citizen, with the starter pack at 30 € you can play the game and have access to all the content. I am not agree, not all companies acts like Electonics arts. Only the big ones have such business plans. Ubisoft, EA, Activision. there is still companies like Bohemia, talesworlds who still cares about player experience

Aye some game companies get it right, as I said in a previous comment though, this game does have a lot of content in the base game, but the DLC is overpriced if you get the packs separately. I think the game plays great, there will always be a few tweaks here and there, but once you add up all the DLC (which is £40 if you get the season pass) you are getting almost another full games worth of content on top 🙂

I don’t want to sound like a broken record but 1.) I intend to buy the game because the beta was fun enough. And not being able to hear the incessant 12 year old chatter (at least from beta play… Not sure if this has changed) is a huge plus. I don’t get as pissed playing the game, lol.

2.) for right now, I WONT be buying the DLC. The transparency regarding the DLC has been horrendous. I know this post puts down plotted points and that’s great. But EA/DICE still has yet to specifically address what you’re paying another $50-60 for and the expectations of amount of content for this game is already high enough (e.g. Space-planetary battles) If you have paid the price already, I’m sorry but that’s quite honestly ridiculous. That’s the equivalent cashing out your 401k account to join of one of those apocalyptic cults, and the apocalypse never happens – it’s just an impending doom to come “someday…”

But I get that this is the business model or culture that we live in. Just a matter if you want to pay or not. We all make our own decisions. This one is mine.

I love Star Wars, but I do not endorse this garbage. Disney needs to figure out EA is not the answer, they just paid the most money to have rights to do crap like this. I will not be purchasing this game as much as I do love Star Wars. I hope this game flops so Disney understands this. If people buy this game they are supporting a bad business model that needs to go. People need to stop buying season passes and DLC.

It sad truth that this game is nothing more then Call od Duty reskin.Oh wait Call of duty have actually campaign perhaps not the best. But at least they trying and they dont have to. Call of duty universe is far less interesting than Star wars universe yet they have campaing.

So yeah Star Wars Battlefront is just bloated DLC packed garbage which just trying make money on Star Wars popularity.

Witcher 3, MGS 5, from licensed games Shadow of Mordor is how you make a money. Battlefield is how you rip off people and give them nearly nothing in return. Moreover this multiplayer game have life 3 or 4 months then it servers will be empty and nearly no one will be buying their DLCs only these people who already brought Season Pass.

If you’ve actually been playing the full version, would you be willing to comment on any offline play-ability? There seems to be some serious contradictions between what EA is saying (basically zero offline) and what some early players are saying (a whole bunch of offline content, just no story mode). I’ve been playing BF since getting the first two from a friend at Lucasarts back in the the day, and my young kids have been hooked on BF2 (primarily the modded XBOX version) for a couple of years now, playing mostly co-op instant action split-screen. Given the level of civility usually found in online shooters, there’s no way in hell I’m letting them play online, but as I’ve been waiting 10 years for this game I really, REALLY would like to hear there’s something like the amount of offline content from the previous games so I can justify buying it. How about it – would you mind making some comment as to what’s actually there?

      • November 20, 2015 at 8:35 pm
        Permalink

Ah, you mean the Missions. Well, it’s not fully “offline” play, I mean you would have to watch them to make sure they don’t join Multi, but there are definitely missions to play. They include the training area, you get to fly snowspeeders, speeder bikes, Tie’s/Xwings (get a gamepad or joystick) etc. In the Battles area you fight AI and collect tokens until you win the battles, normal power ups etc involved, and you get credits for unlocks. These are fun, I like them and very replayable. And then Survival, where you fight waves or enemies in either COOP or solo, these are my favorite. Really fun, would be great for kids.

I do like the fact there is no voice chat in multiplayer, and you can turn off the comments if you want. Pretty sure anyway. So really, not much to worry about in the way of other players being disgusting or insulting. I hated that in Battlefield, bunch of weirdos talking about gross things I don’t want to hear when I’m just there to play a game. Hope this helps.
